These is a photo of Paul's family. The boy is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Paul. He is America. Now he is in China with {#blank#}2{#/blank#}his parents. His father is a English teacher at a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}school. His mother is a manager. Her works in {#blank#}4{#/blank#}a big company (公司) . His elder brother Martin is in the front of them. He is a bus {#blank#}5{#/blank#} drive. He is busy (忙碌的) every day. Paul's {#blank#}6{#/blank#}sister is next at him. She works in a hospital. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}She is a doctor. There is a cat in them family. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}Its name is Kitty but it is very lovely (可爱的) . {#blank#}9{#/blank#}They all love it. Paul's grandparent are in {#blank#}10{#/blank#}America. They have a big farm there. 

One day, Miss Foster said to her class, " What are you thankful(感激的) for Please draw a picture of it. " Her students drew different things. Most of them were beautiful, 1 Mark's was different. 

Mark drew a pair of hands(手) and they were very 2 . Miss Foster and the class were surprised. They looked at the picture and talked about who had such dirty hands.

Florence Nightingale was a nurse and the founder of modern nursing. Her parents gave the name for her because she was born in Florence, Italy. She liked visiting sick people and helping them,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} she often went to the hospitals. She decided to become a nurse so that she could help more people in need. 

In 1853, the Crimean War broke out. She chose to go to a British military (军事的) hospital {#blank#}2{#/blank#} she could take care of the wounded soldiers. What she saw there was terrible, because it was very dirty in the hospital. 

She {#blank#}3{#/blank#} hard so that she could make the hospital clean and save many soldiers' lives. In 1859, Florence wrote several books about nursing so that she {#blank#}4{#/blank#} start the first training school for nurses later. On 13th August 1910, she died. 

Florence Nightingale was a great hero in a special way {#blank#}5{#/blank#} she set a good example for the women in the world. 

I was born in Canada, so I learned my Chinese in Canada. When I first learned 1 , I made a funny mistake.

In my first class, the teacher wanted to make us know about each other well, so she let us talk about 2 names, hobbies or other things to our classmates. I introduced myself and then said, "I have a lot of friends, and they are all mu." I knew the 3 mu because I had a female（雌性的）dog. My teacher said, "When you talk about people, you cannot say mu. You should say nü." "OK." I nodded. 4 I felt confused（困惑的）, because in English, "female" is just one word.

Later that class, the teacher let everyone make a word group and 5 the word group on the notebook then share it on the blackboard. I was the first one to go up. I tried to do well and 6 wrote "nü sheep". The teacher looked at the words and then asked the students, "Do you all 7 the words?" All he students answered, "Yes." The teacher asked "Why do all of you know, but I don't? What do they mean?"

I sometimes make jokes（玩笑）about my 10 as I am learning Chinese. These funny mistakes help me a lot. For example, from that time on, I remembered that mu and nü are different, and I will never mix them up again. 

One day, a rich and well-dressed lady came to see her doctor. She said to him that she thought her whole life was empty and it had no1 .

His blue1 was there, just like he was going to pull it over his legs. My cousin Jack was playing in the yard just like 2 happened. "Let' s go to catch fish!" Jack said when he was 3 the fish net(网) from the corner, Grandpa's net.

 Last summer,I was holding the net when Grandpa asked me to help 4 teach Nancy to play chess. I said no because I wanted to catch fish. Grandpa always took us to catch fish, but then the5 stopped him.

 When we got to the river, we began to catch fish. Suddenly, Jack shouted, "Nancy is shaking!" We didn't bring anything to keep warm 7 I had to take her home.

 Grandma was worried to see a wet Nancy and8 put Grandpa's blue coat around her. As I went to the river again to meet Jack, I looked back at Nancy with that old coat. Something seemed to hit me9 that moment. Everything was just like before, but Grandpa was gone.

I walked to Nancy. "Did Grandpa teach you to play chess last summer?" I asked. "No, Grandpa was too sick." she said, "I miss him."

"Me too." When I said it, I knew Grandpa was never gone. Something 10 was still there. It could be the fish net. It could be the chess. It could be the blue coat.
