How can I improve my English? My students have been asking this question. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the answer won't be proper for everyone, I'm still going to tell you some of my experience. I hope it will help improve {#blank#}2{#/blank#} English learning skills.
One thing is that, once you start learning, you should try to think in English as much as possible. If you see {#blank#}3{#/blank#} when you're walking down the street, just think about "How can I say it in English?" At first, you may think with simple words but later with {#blank#}4{#/blank#} sentences. Now I'm in America, and most of the time, I think in English and speak it directly. It's amazing how much this helps.
When I started learning English, I was often afraid of {#blank#}5{#/blank#} with others in English because I didn't want to make mistakes. Finally, I had a {#blank#}6{#/blank#} to get it over. In America, I tried to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} out with American friends, so that I'd have to speak English. Also, I decided if I said anything {#blank#}8{#/blank#} and other people laughed at me, just let it be. After that, my English started to improve more {#blank#}9{#/blank#}. Besides, it may be a good idea to ask your foreign {#blank#}10{#/blank#} to look at the way you're writing. They can give you some advice for improvement.
A TV show—Chinese Poetry Competition (中国诗词大会) has become popular with many people. Now let's interview some students from our school and listen to what they said.
I like Wu Yishu very much. She studies at the High School Affiliated to Fudan University in Shanghai. She came out on top. She can recite more than 2,000 Chinese poems (诗). I really admire her knowledge of poems. She is tall and beautiful, and she always stays calm (冷静的) whether the questions are easy or hard. —Zhang Hua ,14, Huangong Middle School |
The woman I like best is Bai Ruyun. She comes from a poor village in Xingtai. She is a farmer. She is in bad health, but she has been so confident in herself since she began to read and recite Chinese poems. —Li Weijun ,13, Xinxin Middle School |
I like Wang Zilong best. He is 34 years old. He teaches Chinese in Shijiazhuang College. He said he had learned Chinese poems since he was two years old. —Lin Jing ,15, Hongxin Middle School |
Do you know the young boy? He is Ye Fei, 13, from Anqing No. 2 Middle School in Anhui. In one competition, he answered all the questions correctly. Now he is a young star in his school because of his love of Chinese poems. —Hu Jiashu ,14, Weicheng Middle School |
Now many foreigners like to pick a Chinese name for themselves. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Maybe they'd better know the following things about Chinese names first.
First, there is a big difference between a Chinese name and a Western name. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}A Chinese name puts the family name first and the given name last.
Second, Chinese given names usually have meanings. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}For example, "丽" shows that the parents want their child to stay beautiful; "健" shows that the parents wish their child to be healthy.
It's a good way for foreigners to pick a Chinese name that sounds like their Western name. But it would be better to use Chinese words that carry special meanings at the same time. For example, if a girl's name is Macy, she can pick "美诗" as her Chinese name. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}
Picking a right Chinese name is never easy. Do you want to show us your Chinese name? Would you like to pick a Chinese name for your foreign friend?
A. It sounds close to Macy and has a good meaning. B. However, some of them have got really funny Chinese names. C. One has to know something about Chinese culture (文化) and history. D. A Western name puts the given name first and the family name last. E. Most of the time, one's name carries good wishes from his parents. |
What Chinese name would you like to pick for your foreign friend? Why?(不超过15个词)
