Ghaffar Pourazar, a British man, has learned the necessary skills to perform Beijing Opera and he has become popular with his lively performance of the Monkey King, a traditional character from the Chinese classic story Journey to the West.

In 1993, he happened to watch Beijing Opera performed in London by professionals from Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing. Ghaffar fell in love with the beautiful voices, colorful costumes, excellent shows and so on. So after a year, he arrived in China alone and became a student of Beijing Opera.

At the age of 32, he had to learn with teenage students every day, starting from the most basic training of the legs and waist (腰). At that time, he was mostly troubled by the dialogue in Beijing Opera. To him, it was the biggest problem. But he tried his best to practice it. 4 years later, he began to learn to perform the Monkey King. He usually arrived at the workroom on hour earlier than the other performers and he also bought books and CDs to understand the character better. Finally, He once won a top international prize for performing the Monkey King.

To help more people enjoy Beijing Opera, Ghaffar often teaches the traditional art form in schools in the United States, Britain and other countries. Ghaffar led a group of actors to perform 66 times in a month and a half in the United States. He also led a 48-member team to perform in Malaysia. In the past 10 years, he has performed in more than 400 shows.

 When we think of paper, we think of newspapers and books. But there are many other uses. Only half of the world's paper is used for books and newspapers.

 Paper is very good for keeping you warm. You have perhaps seen homeless men sleep on large number of newspapers. In Finland, it is sometimes -40℃ in winter. The farmers wear paper boots(靴子) in the snow. Nothing could be warmer.

 Each year, more and more things are made of paper. We have had paper cups and plates for a long time. But now we hear that chairs, tables, and even beds can be made of paper. Besides paper boots and shoes, you can wear paper hats, paper dresses, and paper raincoats. When you have use them once, you may throw them away and buy new ones.

 The latest use of paper seems to be paper houses. These are not small houses for children to play in, but real, big houses for people to live in. You can buy a house with three rooms for about 500 dollars. You can put it up by yourself in a few hours, and you can use it for about five years.

We all study in the classroom in the school, but what are classrooms like in different countries?

In China, children have a fixed (固定的) classroom. In a classroom, you can see desks and chairs in lines. There are usually about 40 or more students in every class. They always face the blackboard.

In the UK, most classrooms are similar. There are usually about 30 students in every class. Usually, two children have a long desk.

In the US, classrooms usually have single (单人的) desks for every student. There are about 15-25 students in a class. The US children don't have a fixed classroom. They always go to different classrooms when the classes are different.

Students in Japan have a fixed classroom and they have single desks, too. At the back of the classroom, there are places for students' clothes. At the gate of the school building, there are places for their shoes.

Have you ever seen the film Forrest Gump (《阿甘正传》)? There's 1 famous saying in it: "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know2 " The surprise is part of the fun. It is not only from the chocolates you find in the box but also the process of opening the box. Now blind box toys have become very popular since they 3 to China. Blind box toys are hidden inside the same packaging. So, the buyers don't know what is in the boxes until they open 4 . The most popular toys in the blind boxes are cute characters that come 5 pop movies, comics and cartoons. There 6 a few special ones in many common boxes. "Maybe the next one is a gold toy. My wish is 7 another box." said one buyer. As a result, people will open more blind boxes and hope for a better result.

Besides expecting good results, people also enjoy the surprise and uncertain mysteries. "Opening a blind box like opening a birthday gift is an enjoyable surprise for our simple daily lives," said a 8 girl. "When I open these simple little boxes, I feel disappointed at one, but I feel 9 at another." A fear of the unknown is always a part of the box opening process, and waiting for the uncertainty is 10 part of the fun.

Have you ever seen bronzeware(青铜器)? It can be thousands of years old. A middle chool in Shanxi held a bronzeware show named Daxzling Memories.  ▲ . They were made by students!

Junior high school students from Taiyuan Middle School made more than 130 pieces of " bronzeware". The materials(材料) included recycled hard paper boxes. They cut the paper boxes into shapes and then covered them with bronze- coloured paint or clay. These "bronzeware" artworks looked so real that student visitors felt like they went back in history. 

Li Danyu from Grade 7 made a set of chimes(编钟). He once watched a chime music show in Xi'an. The sound of this ancient musical instrument was so beautiful that he fell in love with it. For this reason, he decided to make one by himself. He said that the hardest part was to add the patterns(模型). He used paper to fold some special patterns, such as xiangyun and dragons, and glued them to the chimes. 

Yang Zixing, in Grade 7, is crazy about Chinese ancient weapons(武器), so he made a halberd(戟). He tried hard to colour the halberd. He made the main body green, gold and blue and added some black to the side of the halberd to make it look real. 

In this show, students not only showed their talents for art but also had a chance to enjoy the art and culture of ancient China.
