When I was a child, I was shy, quiet and fat. And that made me never get on with any friends around me. Almost no one used to talk to me or invite me to parties. I always lived in my own world.

What was worse was that someone always bullied(欺负) me, even my closest"friend".One day after school, an older boy kept calling me"Fat Boy"all the way home on the bus. I was shy and afraid, and wanted to cry. At that time, I hoped my best friend sitting behind me might stand up to help me. However, he jumped up and also laughed at me. You must know how I was feeling then!

And later I became older and got to know what I should do. I started exercising more and eating less. And I kept working hard to get better grades at school. Just half a year later, I was much thinner and healthier. And I was a top student in our class too. Quickly, I became one of the most popular students at school.

Being fat isn't a crime (罪过). However, you can't stop other people from laughing at you. So you must do something to help yourself. Remember that only you can bring yourself hope and success.

A Chinese song contest (比赛) for overseas Chinese was held in London on Sunday. It was organized by the London Chinatown Chinese Association. 

Twenty competitors were divided into three age groups: adults (18-40), juniors (12-17) and children (5-11). The contest awarded one gold, one silver and one bronze prize for each group. The winners will attend the final contest in Beijing this summer. 

In a welcome speech, Jiang Lei, consul general of the Chinese Embassy (中国大使馆总领事) in the UK, said the contest is a great platform to show the talents of overseas Chinese and promote (弘扬) traditional Chinese culture. "2024 marks the Year of the Dragon. It's especially meaningful for overseas Chinese to get together and sing Chinese songs. I believe that these young competitors will move from today's small stage to larger ones in the future," she said. 

Jacky Zhao, a 15-year-old boy, got a silver prize. "It was my first stage performance here, which I think can help me get used to the life in the UK," he said. Li Siyu, in a traditional Chinese horse-face skirt, performed the song Qingming Shanghe Tu. By mixing classical Chinese dance and Peking opera into her performance, Li successfully showed the beauty of the traditional Chinese culture to the world. 

The contest has been held for 14 years since 2011. More than 45,000 competitors from around the world attended it. It has become one of the most popular cultural events for overseas Chinese.

I'm Julia.Today I go to Mr.Smith's Clothes Store with my mother.There are shirts,trousers,shorts and many other clothes in the store.It has lots of) T-shirts for boys and girls.Some of them are nice and cheap(便宜的).I usually wear(穿着)size S because I'm short and slim. I also see some skirts.I like them very much.They are red,green and white.I meet my English teacher Miss Zhang in the store.She is Mr.Smith's friend.With Miss Zhang's help,my mother buys a blue T-shirt for my brother Peter,a white shirt for my father Jack and a red skirt for me.They are only 200yuan.My mother is very happy(高兴的).

Couplets (对联) are very popular {#blank#}1{#/blank#}Chinese people. At first, people {#blank#}2{#/blank#}red paper instead of peach wood charms(桃符) to {#blank#}3{#/blank#}the Spring Festival couplets. After Qing Dynasty, the couplets{#blank#}4{#/blank#} once very popular. Lots of famous couplets appeared. With the development of the international cultural exchange, the couplets were also{#blank#}5{#/blank#} to Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Singapore and other {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. The customs of sticking these couplets still{#blank#}7{#/blank#} now.

 Couplets are usually {#blank#}8{#/blank#}different shapes and colors. Nice words and sentences are {#blank#}9{#/blank#} on the couplets. Different couplets are put on doors, walls or windows as symbols of wishes for good luck{#blank#}10{#/blank#}a happy new year.
