Teddy bears

Children everywhere love toy bears, and people have been making them for hundreds of years. They also like stories about young bears. Three of the most famous storybook bears are Rupert Bear, Pooh Bear, and Paddington Bear, and most children in Britain and America also know the story Goldilocks and The Three Bears. At the moment so many children and adults too like toy bears and there are shops that sell only toy bears of all kinds. 

Many people call toy bears "Teddy" although this name has been used only since the beginning of the 20th century. The word "Teddy" comes from Theodore and a man called Theodore Roosevelt was the president of the United States from 1901 to 1909. Because people liked him very much and they called him Teddy, and because he had a toy bear, they called their own bears Teddy, too. 

My pen friend is Lily. She lives in New Zealand. It's next to Australia. She is a smart girl. She likes football. She wants to be a football coach( 教 练 ). She goes to school on foot. She has a brother. His name is Jill. He is only five. He likes singing. Her father is a baseball player. Her mother is a reporter(记者). She works in a TV station(电视台). She is 40 years old She likes using computers. They both go to work by car. They are very happy. 

Pinocchio had a fever. The Fairy took a glass of water with medicine and said lovingly to Pinocchio, "Drink this, and you'll be up and well. "

Pinocchio looked at the glass worriedly and said, "I'd rather die than drink that awful medicine. "

At that moment the door of the room flew open and came in four Rabbits as black as ink， carrying a small black coffin（棺材）on their shoulders. 

"What do you want?" asked Pinocchio. 

"We have come for you, " said the largest Rabbit. 

"Oh, Fairy, my Fairy, " the Pinocchio cried out. "Give me that glass! Quick, please! I don't want to die！＂ And holding the glass with his two hands he swallowed（吞下）the medicine quickly. Then the rabbits had to leave. 

After that， the Fairy added，"Pinocchio，tell me how you were in the hands of the robbers（盗贼）last time. "

"I had five gold pieces to give to my Father, but on the way I met two robbers. They tied my neck with a rope and hung me to a tree. " said Pinocchio. 

"Where are the gold pieces now?" the Fairy asked. 

"I lost them, " answered Pinocchio. As he spoke, his nose became at least two inches longer. 

"And where did you lose them?"

"In the wood nearby. " At this second lie his nose grew a few more inches. 

"If you lost them in the nearby wood, " said the Fairy, "we'll look for them and find them. "

"Ah, now I remember, " replied Pinocchio, "I did not lose the gold pieces, but I swallowed them. "

At this third lie, his nose became longer than ever. The Fairy sat looking at him and laughing. 

"Why do you laugh?" Pinocchio asked her, worried now at the sight of his growing nose. 

"I am laughing at your lies. "

"How do you know I am lying?"

"Lies, my boy, are known in a moment. There are two kinds of lies, lies with short legs and lies with long noses. Yours, just now, happen to have long noses. "

I first knew about World Letter Writing Day from Grandpa. The day falls on the first day of September every year. People can take a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} from social media and write a letter to their family or friends. 

When Grandpa was young, there were no phones or computers. When people {#blank#}2{#/blank#} someone, people could only contact (联系) {#blank#}3{#/blank#} by writing letters. At that time, Grandpa wrote lots of letters to Grandma to show his love. Now they are both over 70 years old, but they still have a close {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Every year, Grandpa writes a letter to Grandma as her birthday gift. 

There are lots of old letters in Grandma's room. She told me, "These letters bring back lots of good old {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. They are very precious (珍贵的) to me."
