A Frenchman went to New York to take a holiday. He didn't know a word of English. When he arrived in New York, he took a bus to a hotel. 

It was a sunny day. The Frenchman went out for a walk. When he went along the street, he thought he must remember the name of the street. On the wall near the street, he saw some English words. He wrote them down in his notebook. "Now I know the name of the street," he said to himself. "It will be easy for me to get back to the hotel. "

He walked for a long time in the city. Then he felt tired and wanted to go back to his hotel. He took the notebook out of his backpack and showed the words to a young woman. The young woman read the words and looked at the Frenchman. She didn't know what he wanted. 

Then the Frenchman stopped an old man and showed him the words. The old man didn't know what the Frenchman wanted, either. 

At last, the Frenchman saw a young man. He knew some French. When the Frenchman showed him the words and asked where the street was, the young man laughed, because the words in the notebook read: One-way street(单行道). 

Mark Twain was a famous American writer. He also enjoyed 1 , so he went to Maine and spent three pleasant weeks in the forest once. 

When he had to go back home, he 2 someone to put his baggage (行李) into the train first. Then he got in the train and 3 . A few minutes later, another man got in and sat opposite to him. Mark Twain 4 at the man and felt uncomfortable. However, he didn't want to appear 5 , so he began to talk to the man.

The man looked at Mark Twain seriously for a few seconds and then answered, "I'm a/an 9 . My job is to catch people who fish during the wrong seasons. And who are you?"

Mark Twain was 10 and afraid. He thought quickly and then answered, "Well, sir. I'm the man who tells the biggest lies in America."

It's 2: 30 in the afternoon. The house is quiet(安静的). " Tom?" Mom says. No one answers(没有人回答).

Mom comes to Tom's room. He is not on the bed, but his model plane is on the desk." He is not in his room, and he is not in the yard," Mom thinks. Then Mom comes to his grandparents' room. Tom likes to play with his grandpa's tape player, but he is not there. Mom looks for Tom everywhere. Where is Tom? Mom is worried. She wants to call Dad. She comes to the living room to get the phone." What's that?" Mom sees something black under the sofa. Oh, it's Eric, Tom's dog. It loves sleeping(睡觉) there. What is next to Eric? It's Tom!

We feel angry or guilty（内疚） about the things we did or did not achieve，about the things we cannot have，and many other things.It seems that everyone carries their own bad feelings.But neither guilt nor anger can help us.Over time，they can be heavy weights on our shoulders.

These bad feelings don't do anything good for us at all.So you might ask yourself ﹣﹣ is it possible to put down these heavy weights and give yourself a break ？It is quite possible.Start by actually looking at your feelings.How do they get inside of us ？Why do we carry them for so long instead of putting them down ？Can we live without them ？

By thinking about our bad feelings，we can find healthy ways to deal with them.Unhealthy behaviors（行为） are not the way to do this.Instead，there are better ways to deal with them.One of the best ways is to forgiven（原谅）.

Forgiveness is a powerful tool.We should forgive ourselves first.We shouldn't keep bad feelings inside.We must also forgive others who have made us guilty or angry.This is not always easy.But when we learn to forgive ourselves，it becomes easier to forgive others as well.

There is nothing good about carrying years of heavy weights on our shoulders.By forgiving ourselves and others，we can abandon bad feelings，and feel better about ourselves.The moment you do this，you will start to feel a lot lighter.Years of heaviness（沉重） will be magically lifted !You'll start to feel like you have more energy and you'll much happier with your life.

Once upon a time, there was a very unpopular reindeer（驯鹿）called Rudolph. He was born with a big 1 red nose that could be seen from a distance. Sadly, the other reindeer would always 2 him. They didn't realize that it made Rudolph feel very sad. He no longer tried to make friends. But Rudolph would know very soon that his strange nose was a 3 too. 

Christmas was coming, Santa Claus prepared his sleigh（雪橇）to send gifts all over the world. He was 4 and lining up his eight reindeer. However, when they were ready to set off, the sky was covered in 5 . It was so thick that the reindeer couldn't even see their partners, making it impossible to fly. Santa was 6 . How was he going to take the gifts to the children? What a disaster! 7 , Santa saw a red light in the distance. It was so bright that he didn't think twice to 8 the reindeer to that light. They found the poor lonely reindeer Rudolph. Santa asked Rudolph to 9 his sleigh with the other reindeer, so that children all over the world could get their gifts -- his 10 would act as a beacon（灯塔）. Rudolph was so happy and excited!

Thanks to the bright red nose of our reindeer friend, Santa Claus managed to spread joy and hope to all homes in the world. 

Betty collected a basket of seashells. She showed them to Amy. "Look! They are all 1 . These are big and those are small. Some look like beautiful animals. I can use them to make a birthday pre- sent for my Dad! How wonderful!"

Suddenly (突然), Amy saw the sea water rising along the beach. She was 2 and cried, "The waves! They will take your toys!"

"Put my seashells onto the bus, Amy!" Betty ran 3 to get her toys. 

Just when Amy was going to get the basket onto the bus, she fell down and the shells 4 into pieces. 

When Betty 5 , she saw the pieces and cried. Amy tried to tell her what happened, but Betty still looked 6 and didn't talk to Amy. Amy didn't know what to do, so she took them home. 

The next morning at school, Amy found Betty on her 7 . She walked over to her desk and took out a frame (框) and a bag of seashells. "Betty, I 8 some nice seashell pieces from the broken ones last night. Shall we glue (粘) them to the frame together? We can put a 9 of your family in it. It will be a wonderful present. " Amy said. Betty agreed. Together they made a beautiful frame. 

"Sorry, I wasn't careful yesterday, Betty. " Amy said. "I know the shells are 10 to you. " "I should say 'sorry'to you. I like them, but you're my best friend. " Betty smiled.
