Hou Changliang,36, was a volunteer teacher from Hunan. In 2011, after graduating from college, Hou 1 a government-funded volunteer program. He then taught in rural (农村的) schools in Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan for 12 years.

From 2018, Hou started to share pictures of his everyday life 2 people on the video-sharing platform Douyin. The videos have 3 more than 7. 3 million likes. Recently, his story has become well-known all over the country. What's the 4 thing to help develop rural education? With first-hand experience, Hou would say it's not buying new books or desks, 5 a change of mindset (思维模式).

For example, for two years, he had to fight the drop-out rate (辍学率) of his students in Guangxi. Local people often didn't pay much attention to their children's education, 6 the education of girls. Once he had to spend hours persuading (说服) a girl's father to let 7 finish nine years of free compulsory (义务的)education.

Hou also 8 rural students to understand and love their hometown so that they would care about its future and development.

He could feel his students'9 in city life. They once asked him what amusement parks and subways were. He then realized that textbooks usually focus on city life but 10 include rural life."If rural students admire the city life described in 11 , they may just want to go away from home,"he said.

So he sometimes 12 rural life into his teaching. He also turned farming work, 13 collecting bamboo shoots into topics for writing tasks and math problems. He wanted the young people to feel proud of their 14 .

"They(rural students) need to leave the mountains and see a 15 world, but they are also the hope of rural areas," said Hou. He sincerely hopes that rural students can change their lives.

Zhu Yangzhu is the spaceflight engineer for the Shenzhou XVI mission (使命). He 1 in love with the blue sky and flying at an early age. 

When he was 2 middle school student, Zhu often did exercise. Because he worked very hard and got good scores, he 3  enter the National University of Defense Technology in Changsha in the summer of 2005 and remained there for the following years. In 2015, Zhu graduated from the university and took 4 first engineering job. 

In 2018, Zhu heard about the selection (进选) of China's third﹣generation astronauts. He decided 5 a try. In September 2020, Zhu 6 joined the group of eighteen astronauts, including six 7 flight engineers. 

However, for an engineer who had no air flight experience, the training tasks were really difficult. For example, and they had to do many tests on a computer. That needed great perseverance (毅力). Zhu completed the hard training himself 8 he also played a role in 9 the team relaxed and helping others in his team stay clear﹣headed by singing and telling jokes. 

Last year, all his hard work paid off (得到回报) 10 he was chosen to carry out the Shenzhou XVI mission. 

Mount Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world. It is in Asia, which is home to all five of the world's highest mountains. Mount Qomolangma's peak (顶峰) is 5.5 miles above sea level. That is very high! So many climbers have tried to climb to the top of it to prove (证明) themselves. The first people to reach the peak were Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Since then, thousands of people have succeeded in climbing to the peak of Mount Qomolangma.

One of the most successful climbers is Erik Weihenmayer. Like all who try to climb this huge mountain, Erik faced strong winds, snow, and avalanches (雪崩). However, what really made Erik's climb unbelievable is the fact that he can't see anything. After losing his vision (视力) at age 13, Erik began climbing at age 16. He has climbed the tallest mountains on all seven continents (大陆). Erik became the first blind person to reach the peak of Mount Qomolangma.

At the age of 32, Erik began his climb as part of a 19-member team. His team wore bells (铃) that he could follow during his climb, and teammates were quick to warn him of such things as a big drop on the right or a rock to the left. Erik also used long climbing poles (爬杆) and an ice ax (冰斧) to feel his way across the ice, rock, and snow on the mountain.

During his climb, Erik faced many dangers. The higher Erik climbed, the thinner the air became, so he wore an oxygen mask. This helped him breathe (呼吸) as he climbed higher and higher. It took Erik about two and a half months to reach the top of this unbelievable mountain.
