I often hear some students say English is difficult, and it gives them a headache. But English is very easy for me. I' m good at it. I' m very glad to tell you something about how I study English.

First, I think an interest in English is very important. When I learned English first, it was fresh for me. I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! After that, I learned English harder and harder. Our English teacher often teaches us English songs, and the songs sound nice. I often think how interesting English is!

Second, I think English is a foreign language. I should learn it well in the following ways: Listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary. Then practice again and again, never be tired. And I also have a good habit: Asking whenever(不论何时)I have a question. I must make it clear by asking our English teacher. How happy I am when I understand!

Besides this, I often read English stories, jokes and easy novels. They help me understand a lot of things. So to do more reading is an important way to learn English well. And I also write English diaries. English has become a close friend of mine.

Different children like doing different things in their free time. 

Tina likes doing outdoor (户外的) activities a lot. She goes to climb mountains{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(one) a week. She thinks climbing mountains can make her relaxed and it's also good for her {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (healthy). 

Tom likes going to his uncle's farm {#blank#}3{#/blank#} bicycle. He helps his uncle feed ducks and pigs. He always has {#blank#}4{#/blank#}wonderful time there. 

When Frank is free，he helps his mother do the housework. But Frank {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(hard) ever goes shopping with his mother. He thinks it's boring. 

Cindy likes staying at home，but she never feels {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(boring). She likes reading books such as science books. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}she thinks they're difficult for her，she reads at least one book every week. That's because she wants to be a {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(write). 

What about Grace in her free time？Sometimes she goes to the old {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(people) home or goes to the library. Sometimes she keeps {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (diary) in English. So she always feels full in her free time.

Schools change PE classes to help students recover* from COVID-19*.

On March 17, Beijing made changes to the PE test in the 2023 zhongkao: All students will get good scores if they take the exam. 

Some cities such as Taiyuan canceled* the 1, 000-meter and 800-meter runs. Other cities like Wenzhou let students choose if they would like to run in the exam. This is to make it safe for students after recovering from COVID-19.

Knowing about your health

At the start of the term, every student in Xi'an Jingkai No. 3 Middle School did a survey*.

How do you find the street cats in your school? Cat food? At Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU), students made on their phone a mini-program(小程序) Beiwai Cats to help students find the cats in their school and get to know them. 

On Beiwai Cats, every cat on the eastern campus ( 东 校 园) of the university has an"ID card". The cards show the cats' photos with information(信息), like what the cats look like, where to find them, whether(是否) they like people. Cat lovers can even adopt the school cats to give them a home on Beiwai Cats. 

Zhou Hengxiao, 20, helped make the mini-program. He said it is good for both the students and the cats. With the"ID cards", students can learn more about the cats. If students know the cat is afraid of people, they will be more careful not to touch(触碰) it. So the cat may not get scared so often and the students are less likely to get scratched(被抓伤). 

Zhou's group are working on platforms like Weibo, Bilibili and Xiaohongshu to make more people know Beiwai Cats. "When we make money from these platforms, we can use the money to buy more food for the cats, "he said. 

Zhou said they hope to help more street cats on Beiwai Cats. "We don't have much money, but we want to do our best to give these small lives a home, "said Zhou. 

Tourism has become a huge industry. Tourists make millions of foreign trips a year, twice as m {#blank#}1{#/blank#}as 20 years ago. It's now the largest employer on Earth. Clearly, it can do great good, but it can also do great damage.

It's true that tourism has brought benefits to many areas of the world that were very poor. However, mass tourism also has some bad e {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Local culture and customs change as more tourists arrive. Too much tourism damages the environment. And more and more tourists are behaving badly.

Complaints from local people are growing. In cities such as Barcelona or Venice residents say that too many tourists arrive on cruise ships(游轮). As a result, town centres are overcrowded. They tell stories about n {#blank#}3{#/blank#} parties that keep people awake all night. In famous beauty spots, where tourist money was welcomed, people are now worried about the damage tourists do to the environment.

Of course, many tourists enjoy the benefits of tourism in a responsible way. They choose holidays that support the local economy and they respect the local culture and the environment. Environmentally friendly tourism, or eco-tourism, is becoming more p {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.

Responsible tourist behaviour is necessary, but it isn't enough to solve the problem. Many people now believe that governments should control how many visitors enter their country. They believe they should limit the n {#blank#}5{#/blank#}of cruise ships that use their ports and should not allow too many hotel developments.

U {#blank#}6{#/blank#}, governments are in a difficult situation. Tourism brings in a lot of money and this helps them i {#blank#}7{#/blank#} life for the local people. However, some governments are beginning to understand that too much tourism can be bad for the local population and the environment. They've taken some measures to promote environmentally friendly tourism. There may still be hope.

The caique(地中海轻巧小舟) is an important part of Greek culture. For centuries, these traditional wooden boats have been used for fishing and for sending goods, animals and people. But the art of building caiques completely by hand is now in danger.

Caiques from the Greek island of Samos are famous for their quality. Years ago, many locals made a living building caiques. Now, only four boat builders remain. Giorgos Kiassos is one of them. "Sadly, I see the craft(工艺) slowly dying," he said while working on a boat. "Boats made from materials like plastic are cheaper and sell better." Besides, few young locals are interested in taking up the craft. While caique building is seen as an art, the work is tiring. It usually takes more than five years of hard training to learn how to build a caique independently.

The good news is that help is on the way. Kostas Damianidis, a researcher in the field of traditional Greek boat-building, is setting up a new craft museum on Samos. He also hopes to open a boat-building school within the museum.

To achieve his goals, Damianidis is turning to Kiassos for help. "It' s important to have someone with plenty of experience," he said. After more than 30 years in the business, Kiassos knows when to cut down a tree and where each piece should go on the boat. With one mistake, the boat could have problems. When you get it all right, it combines(结合) beauty and strength.

Kiassos is now finishing two caiques. "When a boat leaves, I'm sad," he said. "Yes, I'm happy when everything's okay. But it's like something is leaving, like a piece of me."
