The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is one of the greatest works by Mark Twain. The book is so interesting. Even today, it is quite {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(受欢迎) among kids. Although I am already{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(四十), the book remains one of my favorites. I have learned an important lesson from Tom Sawyer after re-reading the book in {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(最近的) days.

In our daily lives, we are often given some boring or tiring {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(任务). What's in your mind when your mom tells you to clean the floor? Have you ever wanted to complain?

Tom Sawyer, however, thought " differently" when he was given a boring job. One{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(星期四) morning, Aunt Polly told Tom to {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(绘画) the fence(栅栏). The work was a punishment because he {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(错过) school one day. Tom's friend Ben Rogers happened to walk past. Instead of complaining, Tom told Ben that he felt "{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(激动的)" about the job. "Only one in a thousand—maybe even two thousand boys can do this!" Tom said.

Tom's words made Ben interested in the work. He even gave Tom his apple so that he could have a {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(机会) to do the work. If Tom had thought about nothing but complaining, he would have had a bad day doing the work.

This story teaches me a valuable lesson: Complaining is useless. The next time you are given a boring or tiring job, don't be disappointed. Unlike what {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(发生) in the story of Tom Sawyer, it is unlikely that someone will come and do the work for you. However, without complaining, you'll feel better and perhaps even do a better job!

When the three dirty- looking pirates try to s{#blank#}1{#/blank#} the royal treasures when Queen Norah is away, the masked cleaning ladies of Om teach them a lesson. With their excellent cleaning skills, they finally lead the three pirates into the bathroom where they are s{#blank#}2{#/blank#} and soaped. Later when they are taken into the room the queen k{#blank#}3{#/blank#} all the royal treasures, they have a second try but still fail because King Harry and his man notice everything and stop them in time.

Seven years ago，Joyce Akinpe moved to Australia to start a new life，finding an exciting job in Sydney. After the outbreak（爆发）of COVID﹣19，she suddenly lost her job. 

Seeing that there were many others like herself in trouble from the outbreak，Akinpe and her two roommates，Michelle Gomez and Maureen Lee，brainstormed ideas for how to help their local community. They came up with a street pantry（储藏柜）. Gomez said the idea was very simple，"Take what you need and leave what you can. "

With the help of Gomez's father，they built the Blessing Box — a street pantry，with shelves and hanging baskets and two doors made from old furniture. 

It sits just at the back of the three girls' home，so they can look after it. They put some information notices into their neighbors' mailboxes，and the Blessing Box was quickly filled with the donations（捐赠）from the community. "It is the community's strong support that keeps the project alive. " Akinpe said. 

"We now have hundreds of people visiting our box every day. It might only take two hours for the box to be full and next hour it might become empty again. We are now helping others to carry out similar projects in their own communities，too，" Gomez said. 

Lee said things in the box were mostly convenience foods，as well as some necessary life things such as spaghetti and toilet paper. "Few people take everything at once. They think there are other people who need them more. " Lee added. 

There were many people rushing there for donations. The three girls needed to sanitize（消 毒）all the donations and make sure all food packages were not broken. Gomez said that they had no time for rest，but what they did was well worth. 

Danald Stawd, a nice vet(兽医) in San Diego, had experienced defeat in his job. The animal 1 where he worked was crowded with abandoned(被遗弃的) pets,2 owners were struggling to fight with their income going down. So they had no3 to take care of these tiny creatures. In those days, animals 4 be euthanized(安乐死) if nobody wanted them in 7 days. This situation troubled Stawd, even leading him to consider 5 his job. 

One fateful day, outside a convenience shop, he 6 a homeless man with a dog suffering from a skin disease. The man,7 for a solution, shared his dog's sufferings. Stawd examined the dog and offered some medicine to him.8 , the man thanked him, saying " Thank you, . . . s. . i. . r. . , for not refusing or ignoring(忽略) me. " The very words served as a wakeup9 to Stawd and inspired him to make a big decision. 

10 he began working as a street vet during his spare time, determined to 11 on his own. Over a nine-year period, he provided 12 medical care for over 1, 000 homeless people and their pets. 

For Stawd, the most meaningful part of his work 13 the one-on-one connections with the homeless. By14 helping their loved pets, Stawd helps rebuild their15 in humanity(人性), offering hope to those in trouble.
