What should you do if there's an earthquake（地震）at school？ How can you save yourself when you are caught in a stampede（踩踏）？March 25 this year provided you with something about safety（安全）. 

This day is called the National Day of Education on the Safety of Elementary and Middle School Students（NDESEMSS）（全国中小学生安全教育日）. The topic of the day this year is to help students learn more about safety and make sure their lives safe. A survey shows that school accidents kill more students than anything else. The main accidents come from stampedes, earthquakes, fires and sports injuries（伤害）. What can we do to keep ourselves safe？ Staying calm（冷静的）is the first and most important rule when facing accidents. But we have different advice on different accidents. 

A stampede is possible anywhere. The more people get together, the more likely stampedes are to come. When students around you begin to push, you should stand still and try to hold onto something, or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves. If you fall down in a moving crowd, cover your head with both hands. 

Earthquakes are common. When you feel the ground shake, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold on. You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoor, don't stay near buildings, trees or power lines. 

When there's a fire, follow the teachers' words, leave the classroom quickly and use a piece of cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you don't breathe in smoke. 

Do you like animals? Then come and see the animals at Xin Xing Zoo. We have Chinese pandas and lions from South Africa. The American tigers are waiting for you, too. They are beautiful but kind of scary. Do you want to see elephants? They are very friendly and kind of interesting. We also have very cute koalas, but they are a little shy, so please keep quiet. You can play with the monkeys. They are smart and cute. Do you like giraffes? They are beautiful. And there are many other animals, too. It's really fun!

The invention of AI

In the 20th century, scientists began to wonder if computers could think like us. In 1950, the British expert Alan Turing created the "Turing test" to see whether a computer is intelligent. During this test, a human tester puts questions to a person and a computer at the same time. Both answer the questions, and the tester must decide which answers came from the human. If the tester can't tell the two apart, the computer is intelligent. Many people believe AIs that can write, like the ChatGPT system, have already passed this test.

AI is part of everyday life. It can study lots of information and from that work out what is likely to happen next. Self-driving cars, for example, use AI to make decisions. In hospitals, AI can study information about thousands of people to work out what might be wrong with a patient from their test results. Tools like ChatGPT can write computer code, stories and even solve maths problems.

The future of AI

Some people worry about how AI might influence their jobs. If computers can create pictures, music and text, could artists, musicians and writers one day be replaced? Many people also fear that AI could be used to invent and spread lies. Even those who work in AI say there should be rules about how it is used. However, AI can spark (激发) creativity too. AI is very good at suggesting drugs to treat diseases, and can even invent new medicines. It can help us fight weather change by finding clever ways to reduce our energy use. One day it might even find a way to solve our energy needs completely.
