Have you ever wanted to achieve something really amazing in life? Well, Greg Mortenson wanted to climb a mountain, but he ended up helping thousands of people to have a better life.

 Greg's story began with failure. In 1993, he set out to climb K2, the world's second highest mountain. But Greg never made it to the top.  After five days, he stumbled(踉跄）into the village of Korphe in northern Pakistan, injured(受伤）and hungry. The kind villagers there looked after him for several days.

 Greg saw that the villagers were very poor and hungry, and some of them were ill. Also, the village school didn't have a roof(屋顶）and the children wrote on the ground with sticks. Greg knew he wanted to do something to help. " I'll build you a school,”he told the villagers. “ I promise.”

 Greg went back home to the USA to raise money for the school. He even lived in the car to save money! Finally he went back to Korphe and built the school. But this was just the beginning of something bigger! Since then, Greg's organization has built around 80 schools and runs many others in Pakistan and other countries, too.

 Greg hasn't finished yet. He does many other things to help people in poor countries. He has got many prizes, but it's the smiles of the children he has helped that makes him happy!

 Greg has just written a best-selling book about his story called Three Cups of Tea. It's an interesting and exciting book which tells us what ordinary(普通的）people can do with courage and determination(决心）!

    Linda and Lily are sisters. Linda is fourteen1old and Lily is eleven. They2in Beijing with their parents this year. They are3in Beijing, so they don't know much about it. They are students, but they are not in the same school. Linda's school is not near (在……附近) her home. How4is it from her home to school? It's about five kilometers. So she usually goes to school5bus. She walks to the bus stop near her home first. And then she6a bus to school.7usually takes her half an hour to get to school.

    Lily's school is8one kilometer from her home. She usually9her bike to school.10when she gets up early sometimes, she will walk to school. She likes walking in the fine weather (天气). When she goes to school by bike, it usually takes her ten minutes. When she walks, it always takes her twenty — five minutes.

Mark is seven years old. He1 Singapore. There are three people in his family. His father is a doctor. What does his2 do? She is a nurse and she works in the3 hospital with his father. So they go to4 together every day. Mark is a student5 Grade One. He6 a bus to school on weekdays. He often7 hello to the teachers. So his teachers all like8 .

Miss Green is Mark's9 teacher. Today, she teaches her students to count  10 in English. Mark can count very well. So Miss. Green ask him, "How many people are there in your11 ?"

Mark says, "Four, Miss Green. "" 12 are they?""My father, my mother, Coco and Dino. ""Are Coco and Dino your sister and brother?" Miss Greens asks.

"No, they aren't. Coco is my cat13 Dino is my dog. "

"Oh, I see. Three people and14 pets are in your family. You're in your family too, right?"

"Let me count again. Yes, you're 15 Miss Green, "Mark says.

There is a park near my home. But I don't go there very often. One afternoon, I went into the 1  and found it was very small. In the park there were two 2 ways. One was wide and clean, there were lots of beautiful3 on both sides, but the other was narrow and dirty, wild grass grew everywhere. I stood there for a while, at last I decided to follow the dirty way.

Ah! There was a small4 there. It was the most beautiful garden I had ever seen. There were trees and flowers. Some clean and comfortable chairs were under the trees. I thought it was the 5 place of the park.

Many people6 me that there was nothing to see in the park. Now I would love to tell them if they follow the right way, they can feel the 7 . But each time I tell them, they just smile at me without 8 . I know they don't believe me. My trip to the park that day made me understand 9 about life. In our life, we always have to make a decision. Don't be 10 to choose a different way. Be brave. You may get a big surprise!
