Say you're sitting around with some friends playing video games and someone mentions a game that happens to be one of your favorites. "Oh, that game's easy. So not worth the time, " one of your friends says. The others agree. Although you enjoy the game quite a lot, not wanting to argue with them, you go along with the crowd.

You have just experienced what is commonly referred to as peer pressure, also called peer influence. You will adopt a certain type of behavior, dress, or attitude in order to be accepted as part of a group of your "peers". As a teen, you are likely to have experienced the effect of peer pressure in a number of different areas.

We are all influenced by our peers at any age. For teens, as school and other activities take you away from home, you may spend more time with your friends than with your family. As you become more independent, your peers naturally play a greater role in your life.

According to Dr. Casey from Cornel University, teens are very quick and accurate in making decisions on their own and in situations where they have time to think. However, when they make decisions in the heat of the moment or in social situations, their decisions are often influenced by factors like peers. In a recent study, teen volunteers played a video driving game, either alone or with friends watching. The researchers discovered that the number of risks teens took more than doubled when their friends were watching, compared with when they played alone. This shows that teens may find it more difficult to control risky behavior when their friends are around, or in situations where they are extremely angry.

Just as people can influence us to make unwise choices, they can also influence us to make good ones. A teen might join in a volunteer project because his or her friends are doing it, or get good grades because his or her friends think getting good grades is important. In fact, friends often encourage each other to study, or try out for sports.

While we are always influenced by those around us, the decision to act or not is up to us. So when it comes to decision making, the choice is up to you.

A young prince had just recently become King. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} So he called all the wise men from his country and ordered them to look for books for him to read and learn from.

Five years passed quickly. The wise men returned with 5,000 books full of wisdom（智慧）. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} So he ordered the wise men to condense（简缩）the books and bring them back to him. Another five years passed. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Five more years passed. The wise men brought back 50 books but the king still felt there were too many books.

Waiting for wisdom to come to you is just a way of being lazy. Only if we set out to find wisdom can we make a difference.

Lu Xun is a great {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (write) in modern Chinese history. He wrote many books in his life. In fact, Lu Xun is the pen name of Zhou Shuren. Zhou Shuren was born on September25, 1881 in Shaoxing. He was born in {#blank#}2{#/blank#} rich family. He lived a happy life at first. But several years later his family became very poor. Life was not easy for him. Zhou Shuren {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (leave) home in 1899. He {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (one) went to a school in Nanjing. Then he traveled to Japan in 1902 to study Japanese and medical science. He wanted to save people's {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (life) . But later something changed {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (he) . He thought he needed to do something to save people's thoughts. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} he decided to become a writer and started to write for newspapers and magazines. He returned to China in 1909. In 1918, Zhou Shuren {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (successful) published his famous short story A Madman's Diary. It became famous very soon. Another great book was The True Story of Ah Q {#blank#}9{#/blank#} 1921. His books influenced many young people at that time. They started to do something to change the country. Zhou Shuren {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (die) on October 19, 1936 in Shanghai. But his thoughts will never die. 

Last week，our school had a science festival. Our team worked hard and made a paper car together. It was only made of corrugated cardboard（瓦楞纸板），{#blank#}1{#/blank#} it could hold a person. 

At{#blank#}2{#/blank#} ，we thought it was easy to make a paper car. But later，we found it was difficult. It seemed{#blank#}3{#/blank#} for us to make a cardboard car successfully. Then our physics（物理）teacher showed{#blank#}4{#/blank#} a video. Finally，we came up with an{#blank#}5{#/blank#} to make the car. 

Because we didn't have much time，we had to finish it as quickly as possible. We talked about how to make the car and tested（测试）it. I was{#blank#}6{#/blank#} that we worked with each other very well. Everyone saw the work as an enjoyable way to relax. When we finally finished the car，we all smiled. We spent two hours{#blank#}7{#/blank#} on it，from 9：00 to 11：00. We were happy because{#blank#}8{#/blank#} our great work. And we took some photos in the science festival. 

Although we didn't{#blank#}9{#/blank#} any prizes，we learned more about science. We also learned something meaningful about teamwork. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}a wonderful day!

Lee loved tennis. He got a few old tennis balls and an old racquet(球拍)from his grandfather, who used to play tennis a long time ago.

Lee hoped that he would become an Olympies1 one day.

The manager of the tennis club 5 Lee and offered him a job sweeping the tennis courts. Instead of getting paid. Lee was offered 6 tennis lessons. Through hard work, his tennis skills were improving so7 that he was invited to play in a competition, Lee won all his matches. A world-famous coach in the audience was so impressed that he offered Lee a 8 at his tennis school. There Lee would receive the best coaching possible.

Then came the day of Lee's first world competition. He played well but the other player was too good for Lee to9 . Finally, he came second. 

Lee didn't mind. He had come a long way from the boy who just stood and watched others playing. There was 10 time for winning in the future. For now, he was happy that he was on the road to the Olympics.
