Say "No" to the Wrong Idols (偶像)
It is natural for young people to worship (崇拜) cool and good-looking young "idols." We always look to listening to their new songs and movies. We spend a lot of time (care) about them—even more time than we spend on our studies or work. We often wonder: What (make) them win the fame? What could I do to be cool like them?
Well, guess what? Many of your idols (be) only made to "look" cool. If you could see into their (person) lives, you would find these stars aren't so bright. Their beauty is skin-deep (肤浅的). Some of them might not be as honest, kind or hard-working you are! They aren't worshiping at all.
Modern "idol culture" often sends the wrong message that life is always easy and fun. But the best actors, the top-ranking (顶级的) sports stars, the world's creative scientists and the bravest soldiers all experience the stress of dealing with life's many (difficulty).
Idols can serve as important role models in our lives, so it's very important (choose) the right ones. We should celebrate people who teach us important values that can help to guide us on the road ahead.
The next time you see some pretty popular "stars," ask (you): Do I really need these people in my life? What kind of people should I really worship?
Dear Li Ling, I have a problem in the new school. I often feel lonely and worried. I have no close friends and I don't know how to get along well with my classmates. What should I do? Yours, Mike |

Johnathon, 14, Grade Eight of Thomas Science and Technology Academy:I'd like to make some suggestions about our school uniform. In the school, we students have to wear uniforms every day. But the dark red and gray sportswear looks dark and old. It can't stand for young and active spirit. We can add some white or orange colors and make a new type of uniform. I hope our headmaster will think about my idea. | Frank, 15, Grade Nine of Mill Hill School:I'd like to say thank you to my headmaster. About half a month ago, my left ankle was badly hurt when I was playing basketball. Our headmaster saw it and came to me. He also took some ice cubes for me and took care of me until my parents came. I just want to thank him for that. |
Larry, 15, Grade Nine of Lakeside School:I have two suggestions for my headmaster. First of all, I think we should have more courses like STEM, Drama or Robot programming. It is quite boring to study basic subjects all the time. And second, I hope we can have more teaching equipment for teachers and students. Some students now don't have laptop computers to program their robots and some teachers also need 3D printers to build some special model bridges for Physics teaching. | Mandy, 15, Grade Nine of Brook Avenue High School Today: I want to talk about the possibility of personal classes. Now many high schools are trying the "personal class" system. Besides some regular classes, students can choose some more lessons they want to take. I think it is more effective. And it is also good for us. We don't have to stay in one classroom all the time. We can meet more teachers and students. |
