Hello，I'm Lucy. During my stay in America，my friend Susan invited（邀请）me to have dinner in a restaurant. That was a funny experience for me. Now let me talk about it. 

At first，my husband told me to take some money before I left，but I didn't listen to him. I thought Susan would pay because she invited me to go. 

The Americans like to be on time，so I arrived at the restaurant on time. We sat at a table and soon we began to enjoy ourselves there. The food was very delicious. We talked about our friends and shared the experiences about ourselves. 

After two hours，the waiter came and asked if we wanted one check（账单）and two. Susan said two. Susan paid her check，and the waiter gave me mine. I had no money. Then I had an idea and said，"Oh!I left my money at home!Can I call my husband？"The waiter showed me where the phone was. I ran to it and called my husband. In a few minutes，he arrived with some money. He laughed all the way home. 

① "When side by side two rabbits go, who can tell the buck (雄兔) from the doe (雌兔)?" China's Yang Jingru and Li Jinzi "played the buck and the doe" in the women's 1,500m short track speed skating (短道速滑) event of the Winter Youth Olympic Games on Jan 20th, 2024.

②They used the classic "rabbit strategy (策略)". The key of the "rabbit strategy" is teamwork of two skaters. One skater runs very fast from the start, while the other stays behind. This is different from the usual 1,500m speed skating strategy of keeping the same speed and then speeding up in the last few turns.

③Using the "rabbit strategy", after the first turn, Yang suddenly skated at full speed. She ran one turn faster than the other skaters and stayed at the back of the group, but nobody noticed it.

④Working with Yang, Li changed between the front and the back in the first half of the race. This made the other skaters wonder (感到疑惑) who was the "leading rabbit". In fact, when the bell rang and showed that there was only one turn to go, everyone had two turns left except Yang. As a result, Yang and Li rushed the finish line successfully while others were getting into a mess.

⑤The two Chinese short track speed players cleverly use the "rabbit strategy". They won both gold and silver medals, making it a classic case at the Winter Youth Olympics.

Billie Jean was full of energy! When the bell rang, she would rush outside and join any game. One teacher suggested she should be more "ladylike" and try not to win all the time, but her parents didn't agree.

"Play as well as you can and be the best you can be!" they told her.

One morning, Billie's friend Susan invited her to play tennis. Billie didn't know what "tennis" was, but it sounded exciting! The next weekend, Susan took Billie to the Virginia Club. There were ladies wearing expensive tennis dresses. She felt quite out of place in her T-shirt and shorts! But she felt much better when she got out onto the tennis court. Billie spent more time hitting the air than she did hitting the ball. The ladies around tutted(发出嘘声), but she didn't care.

The next morning, her mom took her to the public court at Houghton Park to meet Clyde.

"I'm Clyde, your coach!" he said, "Come on in!"

Clyde taught her patiently. The more she learned, the more fun she had.

"I want to be the best tennis player in the world!" She asked her coach, "Clyde, can you make me a champion(冠军)?"

He just smiled, "No, Billie. ____."

Billie took his words to heart, so she kept practicing day and night.

One day, she was invited to the Los Angeles Club. All the players lined up to have their photos taken, but then a man came up.

"You can't be in the photo!" he said, "You're not wearing a skirt or dress!"

Billie was angry Her mum had made her shorts especially for her.

"Don't worry, Mom!" she told her mother. "I'll show them one day! Everybody will know who I am, and they'll all want to copy my style!"

And Billie did! She never gave up or let others tell her how she should behave. And she became one of the greatest and most famous sports stars ever!

Mr. Han was a teacher of English. There was a large international gym near his home. On a sunny Saturday afternoon Mr. Han was taking his two little boys to play tennis in the gym. He walked up to the American man at the ticket box and asked, "How much is it to get in?"

"Nine yuan for you and nine yuan for any child over six years old," the American man answered. "We will let them in for free if they are six or younger. How old are they?"

Mr. Han said, "The younger one is three and the other one is seven, so I think I should give you eighteen yuan."

The American man said with a surprised look on his face, "Hey, did you win the lottery （彩票）or something? You need to give me only nine yuan if you tell me the older one is six. You see, I don't check your ID cards （身份证） today. And the man at the ticket gate won't either（也不）. In fact, it is difficult for anyone to tell the difference between kids of six and seven."

"Yes, that may be true, but the children would know the difference." Mr. Han said. "And that is the most important thing."

Have a look at the picture. There is a fairytale (童话) treehouse in it. Radamshome, a lovely dad, built it for his daughter. It is really beautiful, isn't it?

Radamshome is an artist (艺术家). His job is to make video games. One day, his daughter said that she dreamed (梦想) to have a fairy tree in her bedroom that she could sit and read books inside. So Radamshome decided to build a fairytale treehouse for his daughter. 

Radamshome said that he began with an idea, and then drew a picture. Next, he made a scale model (比例模型). He prepared (准备) all the things he needed. He first built a tree with steel and cement (钢筋和水泥). Then he painted the tree in beautiful colors. He even decorated (装饰) the tree with flowers, birds nests, butterflies and some Christmas lights. The treehouse looks very beautiful and special when the lights are on at night. There are also some animal toys near the tree. 

Radamshome spent eighteen months finishing this treehouse. He feels very happy when he sees his daughter reading books inside the fairy treehouse.

When I was young, my family lived a hard life in the countryside. One evening we were visiting some friends and the weather was very bad. It began to rain on {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (we) way back home. Dad carried me on his back. Mum {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(give) her coat to my brother. We walked together in the rain for more than an hour. 

I was fat at that time and Dad must be tired to carry me {#blank#}3{#/blank#} such a long time. He almost fell down many {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(time). I tried to get down and walk myself,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} I did nothing well since I was just a little kid. 

After arriving home, we found the inside of our house was covered with water. The rain had come through the{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (break) roof and water was everywhere. Mum put bowls all around the house {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (catch) the rain. Then she put my brother and me to the dry place on the bed. I fell asleep soon.{#blank#}8{#/blank#} I opened my eyes, I found Dad and Mum were sleeping in chairs, each having caught {#blank#}9{#/blank#} bad cold. 

It happened more than twenty years ago. And now I'm a mother too. I can remember neither the beginning nor the end, but I{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (real) understand what the parents' love means. Whenever I think of it, tears run down my face from my eyes.
