Love, joy and the warm feeling of getting together don't cost a thing. But gifts do cost money. So what should a poor family do?

When I was 10, I told my mother that the only thing I wanted for the New Year was a pogo stick (弹簧单高跷). However, my mother said it was so expensive that we couldn't afford one.

On a Saturday before New Year, my family went shopping together. While my mother and I were picking out the gifts, my dad said, "I'll be back soon-I need to see something in the tool area." A moment later, he came back with a long box. I remembered wondering if there was a pogo stick in it.

When we arrived home, my dad put the box in the garage. While my parents were busy with their chores, I quietly walked out to the garage and found the box. I was so excited and I knew as soon as I opened that magical box, my bright, shiny pogo stick would appear. No such luck! Inside the box was a silly old broom (扫帚).

That New Year morning, I got some gifts like a tiger toy and a saving pot, but I didn't get the present that I really wanted. How upset I felt at that moment though I didn't want my parents to see!

After cleaning up the room, my dad went to the garage. When he came back, he was carrying a beautiful pogo stick. I couldn't believe it! My parents probably got quite a laugh from the trick they played on me.

Although we didn't have much money, my parents gave me the most important gift of all: lots of love. That was over 60 years ago and I still think about those wonderful memories. They were full of my childhood. I will never forget all the joy my parents brought into my life.

Bob's father has a big farm.On New Year's Day，he asked Bob，"Could you work on the farm when you're free this year？"

"Farming is not my work，Dad. I have much schoolwork（功课） to do."Bob wasn't glad about it."If you help me work on the farm，I will give you anything you want."

So Bob gets up early and works hard on the farm in his free time this year，just like other farmers.His wheat（小麦） grows very well.

 The 16- year- old girl Xu Zhuoyuan from Changsha, Hunan Province, reached the top of Mount Qomolangma on May 15th, 2023. She became the youngest Chinese woman climber to do so.

 The girl's interest in climbing is influenced by her father Xu Jianglei. He was the first man from Hunan Province to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma.

 As a first- year high school student, Xu Zhuoyuan has already had a lot of experience in climbing. She has climbed five mountains, all above 5,000 meters, across China at a young age. She started her dream of reaching the top of Mount Qomolangma at the age of 12 and finally succeeded after years of hard work. To realize her dream, she had continuous training. Last year, she successfully reached the top of Muztagata, a 7,546- meter peak in Xinjiang.

 Being a high school student, she tries her best to do well in both study and mountain climbing. Usually she climbs during her summer and winter vacation. She hopes to continue climbing after she finishes her university studies. She wants to climb to the highest peak in each of the seven continents(大陆). She also wants to be able to reach the North Pole and South Pole one day.

Our school is in the center of the town. But we live in the countryside. Mum thinks it is quiet there. It takes me about one hour to go to school by bike is difficult for me to get to school before eight o'clock in winter if it snows. Sometimes I am late for class. And I have to get up early in the morning. I am often tired in the evening. I tell my parents about it. Daddy finds a job in a supermarket in the town. We move to a house there. It's not far from the train station and I can ride to school. It takes me only fifteen minutes. Now I don't worry about being late for school. And I can play soccer with my friends after supper.
