These days, Dr. Hunt made a survey(调查) about middle school students in Guangzhou. The result shows that 18% of the students have mental(心理) problems. Some students have lots of worries and feel unhappy because they have problems in learning and getting on with people like their parents and classmates. Here are two students talking about their problems.

Chen Han, 14- year- old girl

I am very afraid of the exams. I always study the hardest in my class, but I can't get good grades. I can't think of anything when I am having an exam. And before exams, I can't sleep well for days.

Su Ning, 15- year- old boy

I do well in my studies. However, I hardly have friends. Because I'm from a poor family, I don't have enough money to buy expensive shoes and my classmates laugh at me. I always feel sad.

Many students who have problems won't go for advice or help. Some think they will look stupid(愚蠢的) if they go to see a doctor. How to help these students? Mr. Ma, an expert from Beijing has the following suggestions(建议) for students:

☆Talk to your parents or teachers often.

☆ Take part in group activities and play sports.

☆Go to see a doctor if you feel unhappy or unwell.

This is my family. My grandpa's name is Harry Brown, and my grandma's name is Jean Brown. These are my father Jeff and my mother Lily. I have a sister, and her name is Gina Brown. My name is Tom Brown. We're in No.1 Middle School. In my family, I have a cat Mimi and a dog Vivi. Mimi is yellow and white, and Vivi is black and white. They are very lovely, and my family is also very warm（温暖的）.I love my family.

Last summer I went to a park and saw a little dog walking around. He was dirty and weak. When he saw the bread in my hand. he ran up to me. He was so hungry. But he ran away as soon as he saw my mom. I felt sorry for the homeless(流浪的) dog.

From then on, I began to pay attention to homeless pets in Shanghai. There are more than 270,000 homeless pets in the city now and this number is still growing. The fast growth of homeless pets can cause many big problems, for example, they may spread diseases(疾病) and so on.

Why are there so many homeless pets? Some people leave their pets behind in the street when they don't want to keep them anymore, but the city can't provide enough animals' homes for the homeless animals.

How shall we work together to save these poor pets? Firstly, the government should pass laws(法律) to protect pets. Secondly, we can raise money to build more animals' homes. What's more, we could teach people how to take care of pets. Lastly, we can get a pet from the animals' homes instead of buying a new one.

I hope we can build a better world not only for homeless pets but also for ourselves.

There are many deserts on the earth. And here are some facts you may find interesting. 

What are deserts like?

Deserts can be hot and dry places. Rain may not fall there for months or years. Some deserts are sandy and stony (多石的). Deserts can also be very windy places. The wind can change the shape of the deserts. It moves sand around from place to place. 

Temperatures in the deserts can vary very much. During the daytime, the temperature may reach 40℃ even in the shade (阴凉处). At night, deserts can become very cold. In winter there may even be a frost(霜冻) in the early morning. 

Living in the deserts

The camel is sometimes called"the ship of the desert". It stores food in its hump (驼峰) and can go for days without water. It has large feet which help it not to fall into the soft sand. Its long eyelashes keep out the sand during sandstorms. 

An oasis is an area of the desert where water may be found. The water may be in pools or under the ground. People and animals visit an oasis to find something to eat and drink. Plants grow at an oasis. Some farmers are able to grow crops there. 

The Arabian Desert

The Arabian Desert lies between the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. In some parts of the desert, it is too hot for people to live. Oil was discovered under parts of the desert. This oil has made some countries in the area very rich. Much of the money has been spent building fine cities with lovely parks and lakes, and people live a comfortable life there. 

 Every year, more than nine million people all over the world come to visit London. They go to the museums and theatres. They look at interesting old buildings or have a drink in a park.

A quick and easy way to get to different places in the city is to take an underground train. The trains run all day and most of the night. You'd better not take the underground during rush hours because the trains are so crowded that you can hardly move or find a place to sit.

 London's famous red buses form a big part of getting around in London. Although the London Underground is the fastest and easiest way of getting around London, the buses play their part and are an experience you should try at least once. By sitting on the top deck(层) of the bus, you can get a great sightseeing experience of London as well. The buses take you to many of the interesting places in the city on one journey. It takes about one and a half hours, but you can end your journey and get off( and on again) at different places you want to visit.

 London taxis are called" black cabs". Most of them are black, but some are not. You can stop one if it has a" For Hire(供租用的)" sign on it. The drivers are friendly and helpful.
