Something unexpected happenedin the summer of my eleventh year. The home I had grown up in burned to the groundin the middle of the night. Thankfully, my mom, dad, grandma, brothers and I escapedalong with my dogs. Yet, we had nothing but the night clothes we were sleeping in.I spent the rest of that night with a friend of my family. I tried unsuccessfullyto sleep in the bed in his house. I was too scared.

    The next day my mom brought me a few T-shirtsand pairs of jeans that another friend gave to her. One pair of them was too shortand the other pair was too long, but I didn't care. At least I had some clothesagain. My dad returned to our broken home to see what he could find. The only thinghe could save was my mom's rings.

    To spend the summery dad rented us a big houseon the same road as our old house had been. As we moved in, our friends and ourcommunity continued todonate (捐赠) all they could to help us to get back on our feet. There were moreclothes, furniture, food money, and even some books for me to read. Love was aroundus.

    Looking back now I am thankful for all we wentthrough that summer because it taught me so much about life, love and people. Itshowed me that when you have nothing left but love, for the first time you see thatlove is enough.

Every year, thousands of people die or get hurt on the road in China. Of course, there are traffic rules to make the road safe, but some people don't always obey the rules. So please remember to keep to the rules on the r{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. If everybody obeys the rules, the roads will be much safer. 

◆If you ride a bike, don't ride in the m{#blank#}2{#/blank#} of the road. And when you ride a bike with f{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, don't look around to talk to them. 

◆If you drive, you should slow down at every traffic light. And you must always wear a seat belt. 

◆If you want to walk a{#blank#}4{#/blank#} the road, stop and look both ways. Look to the left first, then the right and the left again. Don't run across the road at any time. And you must not play on the road. 

It's very necessary (必要的) for e{#blank#}5{#/blank#} to obey traffic rules. 

"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, to draw closer, to find each other and to feel. That is the purpose of life." These words come from my favorite movie, Daydreamer. They are always kept in my mind. The movie, directed by Brahman Turner, taught me to live my own life and to do something 1 . Inspired by the movie, I started to learn skateboarding last summer vacation.

The first 2 are always the hardest. I still remember the first day. The 3 was not great. I fell over again and again. I found skateboarding was a(n) 4 sport for beginners because you may fall over many times like I did. But falling cannot be 5 for anyone. I wore a helmet and protective gear(装备) to help keep safe. I practiced all day until sunset that day. For the next few days, I practiced hard every day. I knew that practice makes perfect. And 6 , I could skateboard. I was so proud of that.

However, as I 7 with my hobby, I met quite a few challenges. I still practiced hard for the rest of that 8 , though made little progress. Unluckily, I hurt my knee. When the summer vacation was over, I had to return to school. But I knew I would 9 skateboarding again later because it is fun and brings me joy.

Taking exams will be one of the most stressful times of your life, especially when you have your parents and your teachers telling you all the time {#blank#}1{#/blank#} important exams are. You will probably be under even more {#blank#}2{#/blank#} if you have an older brother or sister who has already done well in {#blank#}3{#/blank#} exams and your parents expect you to do so too. But don't worry, because it's {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to feel stressed before taking an exam. In fact, research has {#blank#}5{#/blank#} that a little stress in your life can motivate(激励) you and help you get better results.

Friendship is a kind of treasure in our life. It's like a bottle of wine: the longer it is kept, the better it will be. 

School is a big part of life. Not just for kids, but for families, too. And for teachers. Everyone has an opinion about what is best for students. Do kids need homework? Some of our readers say students need the extra work. Others say homework takes time away from exercise. Here's what some of you said.

Peter: Kids need homework. When they learn something new in school, reviewing it at home helps them remember it. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. It tells them how much students are paying attention in class and who needs more help.

Olivia: Giving students homework is a bad idea.  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. They can do activities that build a healthy mind and body. Homework just causes stress. And stressed students do poor homework. That is worse than doing none at all. If students are working hard in class, they do not need the extra work.

Jack: I think kids need homework. But the amount should vary by age. At my school, primary students get homework. But it is not too much. For example, we might have to learn spelling words at home. Then we will take a test in class. We do most of our learning in class. For some homework, we have to hand it in. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. We get a special prize for doing it.

Wendy: Homework is pointless. Kids already spend six hours a day in school. Homework just makes them repeat what they've been doing all day. What's more, homework takes time away from activities like team sports, hobbies, and playing.  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. They keep kids active.
