The opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games marked the richest and most skillful use of AR (增强现实技术) in history. 

"Technologies such as AR have allowed us to express more, " said Sha Xiaolan, director of the opening ceremony. "We've fully put AR into the opening ceremony. It offers people special experience to feel Chinese culture in Hangzhou. "

At 8 p. m. on Saturday at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, the opening ceremony started with an amazing performance. It showed the culture, history and natural beauty of Hangzhou and Zhejiang. 

The technologies were fully used into each of the programs from beginning to end. It started with Kongming Lanterns and ended up with digital (数字的) fireworks and a digital torchbearer（火

炬手）. All of these meant Hangzhou's promise to be an environmentally friendly Asian Games.

"You saw a little AR during the closing ceremony at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. But it was fully a part of the performance and brought things like water to life at this ceremony. " Sha Xiaolan said. "Because of it, the opening ceremony was beyond expectations（超出预期）. "

Recently, a tourist said in a video that there was no hot water on the Huangshan Mountain. Some tourists also complained(抱怨) online that they failed to get hot water for cooking instant noodles since it was banned(禁止) by the scenic area. For a time, "Why doesn't the Huangshan Scenic Area provide hot water for instant noodles?" became a hot topic on the Internet. Many people thought this rule was unreasonable.

Later, the staff of the Huangshan Scenic Area(景区) replied to the question: In order to protect the animals, plants and environment of the Huangshan Mountain, tourists are advised not to eat instant noodles in the area.

Before the rule was made, leftovers(残羹) and packaging materials from instant noodles were often found throwing in the scenic area. These seriously harm the soil and plants. In addition, animals, such as squirrels and birds, may eat these leftovers by mistake, which poses a threat(威胁) to their health.

In fact, eating instant noodles is not banned on the mountain but it is not encouraged, according to a leader of the scenic area. Actually, the ban on sales of instant noodles on the mountain was put in place in 2006.

The staff at the scenic area said, "Tourists can get hot water at the rest area in the scenic area. They are also allowed to bring their own food products such as bread and self-heating meals. For those who do not bring food, the scenic area has supermarkets and restaurants."

This action quickly received understanding and support from the public. "This is necessary. We should follow the rule while enjoying the beauty of nature," one tourist shared his opinion online. "I support the rule, and we should all play a part in protecting the environment."

Tom, Jim and Ted are cousins. They study in the same school. They usually go to see their grandparents on weekends.

Their grandparents have a farm. Last weekend, Tom, Jim and Ted went to the farm to see their grandparents by bike. They met at Tom's home on Saturday morning, and started at 2:00 in the afternoon.

Their grandparents were happy. The next day, Tom, Jim and Ted helped with the farm work in the morning. They kept the chickens and then they watered the vegetables. At noon, their grandmother cooked fish and many vegetables for them. She cooked well. In the afternoon, their grandfather helped them to fly kites. Their kites flew high. What an interesting country life! They all had a wonderful weekend.

What would you do if your best friend and you have different ideas? At first, I didn't know how to do when I found that my best friend Karina disagreed (不同意) with me on some things.

 When we first met in a summer camp, we got along so well.

 But then something happened at a picnic. "Did you hear about the shopping center news?" asked one of our friends Levar. "They want to cut down lots of trees to make room for a shopping center."

"That's terrible! We have to stop that," I said.

"I disagree," said Karina. "The shopping center would give new jobs to people in need."

"But animals would lose their homes!" I said. "I want people to have jobs, but it doesn't mean cutting down trees."

I wished Karina could agree with me about saving the trees, but she had her reasons for believing what she did. I was so angry that I didn't talk to her for days.

 Later, my mother knew it and said to me, "No two people are the same. You should respect(尊重) each other. And no matter what happens, the difference doesn't mean losing a good friend."

 After listening to my mom's words, I said sorry to Karina and we are still good friends now.

16-year-old Yang Jun'ao, a student from No. 1 Middle School in Nanxian County, Hunan province, invented a robot to help harvest lotus roots(采藕). 

"I got the idea when I saw my grandmother, in her 70s, working hard to harvest lotus roots under the hot sun, " Yang said. Sometimes, his grandmother would badly hurt her fingers while using harvesting tools. 

To make things easier for his grandmother, he decided to invent a robot that could do the job for her. 

With the help of his teacher, Hong Wei, Yang spent almost a year building a model of the robot. The robot can move by itself in the muddy(泥泞的) fields where lotus roots grow. It uses special technology to identify ripe roots by looking at the color of the lotus leaves. Then, its arm carefully cuts the roots without harming them. 

While creating the robot, Yang faced challenges like collecting parts for the model, putting them together and using a hot glue gun for connecting. "The first time I used a hot glue gun, my hands were shaking, " Yang laughed. At first, he planned to use rotating blades(旋转叶片) for harvesting lotus roots. But it was hard to find them, so he used more common blades instead. 

When Yang showed the robot to his grandmother, she was happy and gave helpful suggestions for improvement. She suggested using a voice player to help locate the robot in thick lotus leaves. "My grandmother's suggestion reminded me that any invention must be practical to be truly valuable. " said Yang. 

Although Yang still needs to make improvements, like finding cheaper materials, his teacher Hong spoke highly of Yang's creative thinking and resolution to help his hometown.
