Last June, when my mother told me she had planned a four-day visit to Dubai with me, I was very excited. Tourists from all over the world come to see the sights in this amazing city and experience its culture.

On our first day, we visited the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. It is 828 metres high and it holds several records. After that we visited the Arabian Desert. The next day, we visited the Palm Jumeirah, the world's largest man-made island. The island is made from all natural materials (材料) because the Prince of Dubai wanted to give it a more natural look. The island itself looks like a palm tree from above, with one main strip(条) of land and 16 strips, 8 on each side. They all come from the middle, and make the island appear like a palm tree.

Dubai is home to the world's largest shopping centre. So on the third day, after a short boat ride away from our hotel, my mother and I spent the whole day shopping there. We returned home in the afternoon the next day. It was a fantastic trip.

Sam: Very well.

Sam:Me too.

Judy: Look at that tree over there. It's been around for hundreds of years.

Sam:Yep! I still remember the days when we played hide and seek there after school.

Sam:It's a new library. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}

Judy: As a book lover, I'm really interested in reading. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Sam: Sure. But let's have something to drink first. Sir Lin's Teahouse is around the corner.

Judy: Wow. It serves the best food and drinks in town. It's been around for as long as I can remember. I can't wait to taste.

Sam:Let's go and have a drink.

Eliud Kipchoge is a marathon(马拉松) runner from Kenya. He's 1 eleven gold medals(奖牌) so far and many people think he's the most 2 marathon runner in the world. He3 the world record for the fastest marathon. No one has ever run a marathon 4 than Eliud.

But for Eliud that is not 5 because, in 2017, he tried to become the first human to run a marathon in less than two hours. It took two years to 6 for the run, and during this time, Eliud worked with a team of 7 . They used technology to 8 everything about his running: his training schedule (日程), his breathing, his diet, his running shoes, and his 9 . After two years of planning and 10 , the big day arrived and Eliud 11 the distance of26.2miles on a track in Milan, Italy. His time was good for most of the race and he finished it in a12 time of 2 hours, 25 seconds; but it wasn't fast enough. Eliud 13 the final part of the run:" I felt a little bit tired in my legs and I tried to 14 , but it was too late."

 So, if Eliud can't run a marathon in under 2 hours, is it possible for any human? Maybe in the future, as technology gets better, someone might 15 a time of 1 hour 59 minutes and 59 seconds.

Have you ever unlocked a shared bike? Have you ever ordered a meal online? Have you ever enjoyed watching the short- form videos on the Internet? Well, if no one had invented the cell phone, none of these would have been possible.

Luckily, someone did invent the cell phone. That person is Martin Cooper, and he did that 51 years ago, in 1973.

Cooper used to work for Motorola. In the 1970s, the company was competing with AT&. T, a larger company, to make a cell phone system. Cooper didn't think Motorola's product was good enough. He didn't like AT&T's idea of a car phone, either. The man had a new idea. He wanted to make it possible for people to talk on their phones anywhere.

It took Cooper and his team 90 days to design the world's first cell phone. The product was called Dyna TAC. People could talk on it for 25minutes before its battery（电池）died. The phone's short battery life wasn't a big problem, Cooper once joked. Why? Well, the phone was too heavy（1,100 grams）to hold in hand for more than 25minutes!

On 3 April, 1973, Cooper made the world's first public cell phone call. He called Joel Engel, an AT&T manager. Cooper told Engel, "I'm calling you on a cell phone. It's a real, handheld cell phone." On the other end of the line, there was only silence.

Cell phones have changed a lot since that first call. They're much smaller and can do many more things. Cooper, now 96, is surprised at the progress.

But the man has also kept thinking about life in the future. "Keep learning all your life," he says, "or you'll lose the ability to learn-- that would be terrible!"

 An aquanaut(潜水员) called Fabicn Cousteau drew many people's eyes. He helps to build the world's {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(large) underwater research(研究) station. He wants the building {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be) an underwater form of the International Space Station (ISS). And it can be used by astronauts from different countries. It's not {#blank#}3{#/blank#} easy thing to do, but the idea receives much support(支持).

 The station, named Proteus, will be at the bottom(底部) of the sea. It will be a place for{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(scientist) to study the ocean.

 Inside the station, there will be bedrooms, laboratories, medical facilities(设施) and the{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(one) underwater greenhouse for growing food. Cousteau says that it will {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(take) three years to build.

{#blank#}7{#/blank#} he is short of money to develop the project, he is trying to raise money.

 Cousteau says that underwater research is even {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(important) than doing research in space, So far, people have known only about one fifth of the ocean floor {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(clear). There are still many possible things waiting {#blank#}10{#/blank#} people to find out. So Cousteau hopes the base will lead to many exciting discoveries.
