Several years ago, I spent most of my time at a mental hospital (精神病院) in our town. I found much joy there. At first it was a little scary to be there, but I stayed on, because I had a reason for doing this.

I volunteered in a locked-up (封闭的) environment. To my surprise, I found that a friend of my parents' was a patient in this hospital. I knew, when I was a baby, this woman wanted to keep me because she had no children. I looked after this woman and showed my old photos to her. Finally, she was able to remember some old things, and she said to me one day, "Dear, you should not come here." But I wanted to bring something happy into this woman's life. I learned that because she had no family, she couldn't leave here and go home. So I brought her to my home twice and I still remembered the happy smile on her face.

I have never forgotten this volunteering experience. This woman later passed    away. I can't see her anymore, but I'm happy that I have done something to make a difference in another person's life.

Dear mum and dad,

I'm writing this letter to you from the center of Australia. At the moment we're staying near Uluru—that's the aboriginal(土著) name for Ayers Rock. On the first day, we took a balloon tour over the rock, and I was surprised at how big it was: 3.6 kilometers long and 384 meters high. The colors of the rock are fantastic, and at different times of the day, they change from purple to red. The Aborigines are the first people of Australia, and the ancient aboriginal stories describe the spirits that created the world. Uluru is a center of Aboriginal culture.

The Australians have many British relatives. That's why they're like us in many ways. Their family life is similar to ours, and they enjoy the same food and hobbies. The food and drink that most Australians like are grapes, lamb, ham and especially wine that they make in the south of the country. They love all sports, but football is the most popular. Most Australians live near the coast, so they also love going to the beach, swimming and surfing.

Although it's December, it's summer over here. The sunshine is very bright, and near the coast the countryside is very green. There are lots of sheep in the fields and on the hills, but the outback(澳洲内陆) is more like a desert, full of rocks and sand.

The next day after we arrived at Uluru, we went on a camel(骆驼) ride. The camel that I rode had a bad temper. When I sat on its back, it became very angry and refused me. So everyone else thought it was very funny that my camel kept lying down…

Finally, later this evening, we're taking the plane back to Sydney and coming home, it's been a fantastic trip!

In the West, people pay too much attention to being eloquent（能言善辩的）. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. However, Confucius didn't think so. He believed that gentlemen are supposed to choose their words carefully, even if that may make people feel bored. 

Confucius had such beliefs because he thought that words are important and that they should follow after etiquette（规矩）. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. He said that gentlemen should not be lazy and need to focus on their work to improve themselves. 

These rules for gentlemen's words and actions have influenced Chinese people for a long time. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. 

Of course, as culture has developed over time, we are also supposed to view（看待）his words critically（批判性地）{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. 

Mary had a nice summer vacation last year. She went to Hawaii （夏威夷） in July. Mary likes fruits, and the Hawaiian bananas and oranges were great. The weather was very fine, but sometimes it rained heavily. On Monday she went to the museum. It was an interesting place and not very crowded （拥挤的）. On Tuesday she went to the mountains. On Wednesday she visited an old friend. They went to the movies in the evening. 

The movie was so funny that they laughed again and again. On vacation she felt like that she was a flying bird！The vacation cost （花费） her about 600 dollars, but Mary had a fun time. 

Mother Cat has four lovely children. On a sunny day，she is playing games with her children in the park. Later，they are hungry，so she asks her children to get some bananas on the tree，but no one wants to do it. Mother Cat has to do it herself. 

After some hours，Mother Cat gets a lot of bananas. She asks her children，"Who would like to take these bananas home？" But they don't want to do it ， so she takes the bananas back home. After getting home，she asks，"*Who will make fruit salad with the bananas？" They all say

After she makes the salad，she says to them，"who wants to eat the salad？""Me!"， "No，you can't. You don't want to do anything before making the salad. You must know 'No pains

The horse-face skirt or mamianqun, is a traditional Chinese skirt that dates back to the Song dynasty. It actually has nothing to do with a horse's face. "Ma Mian" in ancient China has another meaning. It refers to a special structure of ancient Chinese city wall system. But whether its name is really related to the city wall is still a question.

During the Song dynasty, it was initially worn by high-class coursesans (歌舞伎) and was made of silk or cotton. Because of the style and its functionality, it soon spread among the upper-class ladies. In the early Ming dynasty, mamianqun was quite loose, and its style was simple, and it was characterized (是……的特征) by a high-waisted design and a skirt that looked like the face of a horse. Mamianqun in the Qing dynasty gradually developed into the everyday clothing of Han women, which was also used in wedding dresses in the late Qing dynasty. Mamianqun was still worn by Chinese women in the 1920s. After the May Fourth Movement, the difference between Chinese women's skirts and Western women's skirts became smaller, and the traditional elements gradually disappeared.

Nowadays, this traditional beauty continues to be valued by Chinese people. The Chinese actress Yang Mi wore it in the 2024 Henan TV Spring Festival Gala. It immediately became a trendy clothing on social media. Many people searched the same skirt worn by the actress on e-shopping platforms. It is called the neo-Chinese style which naturally puts together modernity and tradition.
