Jack and Eason were walking through the forest. They knew that it was dangerous to do this because many wild animals live in the forest. As friends, they agreed that they would stay together and help each other if there was any danger.

    All of a sudden, they saw a large bear running toward them. Jack climbed a nearby tree. He didn't think about his friend at all.

    Unluckily, Eason did not know how to climb. He could only lie down on the ground. He held his breath and pretended(假装) to be dead.

    The bear came close to Eason. He smelled the man for a moment and left. You see, bears do not eat dead animals or people.

    After the bear walked away, Jack climbed down and went to Eason on the ground.

    "Are you okay? Did the bear hurt you? If only you could climb a tree," he said, not knowing that he didn't' follow their agreement(约定).

    Eason then answered, "Do you know what the bear told me? He told me do not believe afalse friend!"

My uncle David was thirty-six years old when he resigned(辞职). At that time he was a  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(主管) in a big company. Everyone thought he was {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(发 疯 的) and worried about his future. But it  {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(似乎) now he is more successful. Uncle David always wanted to be a presenter. He loved working in radio and enjoyed the feeling of  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(采访) people. That was why he left the company and started from scratch(从头开始).

Uncle David has set a good  {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(例子) for me. What I have learnt from him is that it's never too late to fulfill my dream.

It was about 2:00 a.m. I was driving my taxi on the way to pick up a passenger. When I arrived to collect, I found the building was dark. I walked to the door and knocked, "Just a minute," answered a weak and elderly voice.

After a long silence, the door opened and a small woman in her eighties stood before me. She took my arm and walked slowly to the car. She kept thanking me for my kindness. "Could you drive through the city center?" asked the old woman. "It's not the shortest way," I answered at once.

"Oh, I'm familiar (熟悉的) with the city. And I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice(临终医院). I don't have any family left. It would be the last time for me to travel around the city ".

Hearing this, I quietly shut off the meter (计价器).For the next three hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as a lift operator (升降机操作员)and the neighborhood where she had lived in and told me many stories about the buildings, the streets and the people there. Then, she just sat, saying nothing. At dawn(黎明)， she suddenly said, "I'm tired. Let's go now."

"How much shall I pay you?" she asked, "Nothing." I replied. Almost without thinking, I gave her a hug. "Thank you, young man," said her, excited. Then she held onto me with moved tears(眼泪).

Our hug ended with her words disappearing in the warm morning wind.

Hundreds of years ago, a Norse (挪威的) army came from the north of Europe and stepped onto the land of Scotland. The Scots, a brave people, loved their country very much. They fought hard to keep the Norsemen out of Scotland, but there were too many of them. It looked as if the Norsemen would win.

One night, the leader of Scots took his soldiers to the top of a hill." We will rest here tonight, my men," he said." Tomorrow we will have another fight. We must win or we will die."

They were all very tired, so they ate their dinner quickly and fell asleep. There were four soldiers on duty, watching out for any danger at night. But they were also very tired. One by one, they fell asleep as well.

The Norsemen were not asleep. Very soon, they came together at the foot of the hill. In order to walk quietly, the Norsemen took off their shoes. Slowly they climbed up the hillside without making any sound. Closer and closer, they moved towards the sleeping Scots. They were almost there. A few minutes more, the war would be over.

Suddenly, one of the Norse soldiers put his foot on a thistle(蓟) and got hurt. He cried out and his sudden cry woke up all the Scots. In a moment, they were on their feet and ready to fight. The fighting was hard but it did not last long. The Scots drove the Norsemen away and saved their country.

From then on, the thistle has become popular in Scotland. Although it is not beautiful and has sharp needles all over it, Scottish people still make it their national flower.

The Greens like shopping on the Internet. They all think it's easy and fun to shop on the Internet.

Mr. Green likes reading books. He usually buys new books on the Internet. But sometimes he is too busy and has no time to look for books he wants. So his daughter Lucy often helps him to buy books.

Mrs. Green likes beautiful clothes. She always watches new skirts or dresses in clothes shops first and then buys some of them on the Internet. Of course, they are cheap. But sometimes she is upset because many other women wear the same clothes as her!

Lucy likes listening to music. She often buys CDs on the Internet. They are usually cheap. But the only problem(问题) is that some CDs sound(听起来) a little bad.

Eric buys many things on the Internet, from school things to toys. Sometimes his parents think he always spends too much money on shopping!
