You have been told to wash your hands many times a day to help stop the spread of the new corona-virus (新冠病毒). But what about the mobile phone that you're always using? Scientific studies have shown that the virus can live for two to three days on smooth materials like plastic and stainless steel. Experts suggest cleaning all "high touch" surfaces (表面) every day, including phones, keyboards and computers. However, few people know how to do the cleaning. Here are some things not to do when cleaning the phone. 

◆ Do not spray (喷) cleaners directly on the phone. 

◆ Do not put the phone into any cleaning liquids (液体). 

◆ Do not use tools that use forced air, which are often used to clean computer keyboards. 

◆ Do not clean the phone with hard materials, they could make small cuts on it. 

So, what is the right way? Below are some suggested ways to clean the phone. With any of these suggestions, be sure not to get the phone wet. 

◆ Start by turning off the phone. Make sure the phone is not connected to the electricity. 

◆ Use cleaning cloths with 70 percent alcohol (酒精) instead of the common ones. 

◆ Use paper cloths, or other soft cloths like those used to clean the eyeglasses. It's OK to cover the cloths lightly in cleaners. But do remember to clean the phone "gently". 

Cleaning the phone is one of the measures that are helpful to keep away from the new corona-virus. You should clean your own phone often and tell others the correct ways to do it.

Animal rights officers make sure that people treat animals properly. They visit homes, places where animals are bought and sold, such as zoos, and animal hospitals. They check to make sure that the places are clean, that the animals are getting proper nutrition(营养) and that they have enough s{#blank#}2{#/blank#} to climb around and explore. Sometimes an animal rights officer will appear in court to protect the rights of an animal.

ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER:

To be an animal control officer, you must be in very good health because the job is an active one, i{#blank#}3{#/blank#} getting animals out of dangerous situations. For example, it's not always easy to get a cat down from a tree. Other times, animal control officers must take a s{#blank#}4{#/blank#} animal to the hospital for treatment(治疗). These animals are often in great pain, and are afraid and difficult to control.

ANIMAL DOCTOR:

An animal doctor is called a 'veterinarian' or 'vet'. Some animal doctors work for zoos or animal hospitals. Others, often called 'small animal doctors," treat smaller animals l{#blank#}5{#/blank#} dogs and cats. Many have their own private offices. Vets do most of the s{#blank#}6{#/blank#} things as doctors do. They take the animal's temperature, give injections(注射), and take X—rays. They also decide what kind of medicine a sick animal may need. If an animal w{#blank#}7{#/blank#} too little, the doctor may use a feeding tube(管) to make sure it gets enough nutrition. It takes six to seven years of higher education to become a doctor of veterinary medicine.

Nowadays, we can call our friends from a thousand kilometres away. We can talk to each other with telephones or computers. Developments of technology have brought us {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(close) together than ever before. 

It is, of course,{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(popular) and quickest way of communication. However, do we ever think about what we are losing? As someone who {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (like) writing and receiving letters, I often feel sad that so few people now give letter writing a fair chance. 

You might consider letter writing to be out- of- date,{#blank#}4{#/blank#} I believe we should all write and send letters more often. To begin with, there is lots of love in a handwritten letter. This is why texting or calling doesn't feel as {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(special) as writing. These days, we focus on getting things done in the{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (fast) way. Handwritten letters, however, can make receivers feel much{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(warm) because they take time for us to prepare. When we receive a letter, we feel we are {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (real) loved, remembered and missed. In fact, the process of writing a letter can make us feel happy too. When we sit down and focus on what we are writing, we allow {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(we) to take a break from the stress of our lives. 

Moreover, while texts come and go, letters can be {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (keep) forever. We can always go back and read them again. By keeping a letter, we keep a part of that person and his or her relationship with us. So pick up your pen! Let's bring back the art of letter writing. 

There are a great number of museums in Shanghai. And there are some that you may never have seen before. 

The Maya (玛雅) number system(体系) appeared in the fourth century, which was about 1,000 years earlier than the time when the European number system was created. It is different from the Arabic number system with a base 10 (十进制). The Mayan system had a base 20. This system is believed to have been used because the Mayans lived in such a warm area and there was hardly a need to wear shoes, 20 was the total number of fingers and toes, so the system was workable. Therefore, there were two important numbers in this system. Besides 20, the other important number is 5, which had a connection with the number of fingers and toes on one hand or foot.

 The Mayan system used two symbols (符号). A dot (.) was used to mean the units ( one to four) and a dash (—) meant five. The Mayans were also the first to create symbols of nothing ( or zero). The most common symbol was that of a shell but there were several other symbols. It is interesting to learn that with all of the great experts on Maths and scientists in ancient Greece and Rome, it was the Mayan Indians who came up with this symbol zero or nothing. The following picture is a form of different numbers and how they would have been written.

 From further study, people found that the 360 day calendar(日历) also came from the Mayan. They actually used base 18 when they made the calendar. Each month included 20 days with 18 months in a year. This left five days at the end of the year which was month in itself, full of danger and bad luck. In this way, the Mayans had invented the 365 day calendar.

In Los Angeles, US, there is a special school    named Sotomayor Arts and Sciences Magnet. There students don't just learn about farming. They become farmers!

The school has a three-acre farm. On the farm, students take care of animals like chickens and pigs. The school also has a greenhouse(温室). Students learn to grow plants there. It's really interesting, right?

Nathan Perez is a student at the school. He enjoys working on the farm. "Staying with animals just makes me feel good. I like being outside instead of being in the classroom all the time, " he says.
