My name is Evelyn Glennie. I am a solo(独奏的) drum player. Here I'd like to talk 1 my story. When I was about 12, I 2 interested in percussion instruments(打击乐器) and began to play them. At that time I lost all of my hearing. I remember when I learned 3 the tympani (定音鼓), my teacher said," Well, you know, mu- sic is about listening. How are you going to hear the sound?"I asked," Well, how do you hear it?" He pointed to 4 ear and said,"I hear it through here." Then I told him,"I think I do, too, 5 I also hear it through my hands, my arms, my eyes, my legs and so on."I mean that I 6 feel the music, see it and touch it. That's why I can experience every kind of music, from classical to pop, even though I can't actually hear it.

Now I 7 ' invited to travel around the world for concerts. I like to go to other people's concerts in different countries. I also like to find new instruments. Now I have 8 instruments. They often remind (提醒) me of how excited I was when I first saw local musicians playing them. These experience was such 9 beautiful memory to me. And10 thing is that every time I play instruments, I really enjoy my time with music.

Mr Smith looked at his watch at times. He1 to go home as soon as possible. There would be a (n)2 football match in London and he could not do anything in his office. He3 home after work. Supper was ready and he went to his4 after that. But he could not fall asleep. He was5 he would miss (错过) the match though he had told his wife to wake him up at once at night. He had to6 and began to read some evening newspapers.

Hearing this, Mr Smith jumped off the sofa and asked, "Who won?"

My first home was a beautiful meadow(牧场) with a pond of clear water. There were some large trees near the pond. On one side of the mead ow was a field and on the other was the house of our master(主人), Farmer Grey. He was a kind man.

My mother and I had a happy life. She worked during the day. I played with the other young horses and had great fun. At night I lay next to her.

One day, my master sold me to Squire Gordon. He lived with his family in a big house.

" You' re a beautiful horse, he said." You have a beautiful black coat. I shall call you Black Beauty."

I learned to carry my master on my back and pull a coach(马车). I learned to ware reins(缆绳) and a bit (马嚼子) in my mouth, I did not like them but all the horses had to wear them.

My master had two horses. One of them was Merrylegs. He was very friendly. The other was Ginger. She was not friendly. She bit and kicked people.

Ginger and I pulled a coach together. The coachman's name was John Ginger and I worked very hard. We became friends.

Ginger told me about her life when she was young. She told me. " My master was not kind to me. My reins and bit hurt me. My master did not care."

Squire Gordon and his men felt sorry for Ginger. They were always kind to her. She stopped biting and kicking people. She became a happy horse.

One day in autumn Squire Gordon went on a long journey, John went with him and I pulled the coach.   The weather was rainy and windy. Mr. Gordon and John could not see well in the rain. We came to a bridgeI stopped." Something is wrong。"I thought, I did not want to go on to the bridge. Mr. Gordon and John wanted me to go on to the bridge. I did not move. Just then a man saw us." Hey there! Stop!" he cried.

" What is it?" shouted the Squire.

" The bridge is broken in the middle, he answered." If you go on to it, you are all going to drown(溺死) in the river."

" Thank God!" said the Squire. " Thank you, Beauty!" said John. We turned around and went along the road by the river. For a long time no one said anything. Then John said: " Black Beauty saved our lives. He knew the bridge was dangerous."

When we returned home, the Squire told Mrs. Gordon:" We are all safe, thanks to Black Beauty!"

That night I was glad, although I was very tired.

If you visit Wuppertal, Germany, make sure you take the Schwebebahn. It's a railway that runs for 13 kilometres and carries over 80,000 passengers(乘客) every day.

The Schwebebahn travels in a very different way. Its 24-metre-long train doesn't run on the track(轨道), but under it. The track is 12 metres above the river, so as the train goes over the city, passengers can enjoy the exciting sights freely.

The Schwebebahn didn't come easy. In the 1880s, the traffic in Wuppertal was so busy that the government had to develop a new way of travelling. At that time, a man named Eugen Langen was trying a railway under the track to carry products for his company. It was successful so later Eugen put this idea into the Schwebebahn. In that way, the space above the River Wupper got fully used. It turned out to be a very good choice.

The Schwebebahn gives special travel experiences to passengers. Its stations are as beautiful as art museums, so passengers won't be bored while waiting in the stations. A classical train also offers all kinds of services, such as food and drinks. What's more, people can book this train to have parties or even get married in the air! They will never forget this one- hour journey in the air.

Now the Schwebebahn is more than a railway for Wuppertal. It is a symbol of the city.
