Hi! This is my first post (帖子). I'm Mary. I'm fourteen and I live in New York. I have two brothers. Mark is twelve and Stephen is sixteen. My father is a teacher, but not at my school. My mother is from Canada and she works in New York. She's a photographer (摄影师). 

I have a grandfather and grandmother in New York and lots of aunts, uncles and cousins here, too. My mother's family are in Canada—her parents and her brother and sister. So I have family there, too.

Our house isn't big, but I have my own small bedroom. I have photos and posters (海报) in my room and I have a desk for my computer and two chairs, and a bed. Mark and Stephen's bedroom is big with two beds and a TV. They have a bookcase for their books and DVDs. 

We also have a cat called Smokey. She's six months old and she sleeps too much. Well, that's it for today. Please write down your comments (评论) and questions. 

The teacher stands before his class and is going to hand out the final exam papers. "I know how 1 you have all worked for this test," he says. "and because I know you can do it well, I am going to give a B to anyone who doesn't 2 to take the test."

The word "sandwich" is an English word. Sandwich was an English man. He lived in England about two hundred years ago. Sandwich had much 1 . He was very rich (富有的). But he liked playing cards very much. He often played day and night. One day he played for twenty-four hours 2 stopping. He did not leave the card table to 3 . He asked his servant (仆人) to bring him some meat and 4 . So he put some meat between two pieces of bread and then began to eat. It tasted delicious. He did not want to stop playing cards when he ate. From the 5 of this man, Sandwich, we have the word "sandwich" today.

Aron Ralston is an American man who is interested in mountain climbing. As a mountain climber, Aron is used to taking risks. This is one of the exciting things about doing dangerous sports. There were many times when Aron almost lost his life because of accidents. On April 26, 2003, he found himself in a very dangerous situation when climbing in Utah.

On that day, Aron's arm was caught under a 360-kilo rock that fell on him when he was climbing by himself in the mountains. Because he could not free his arm, he stayed there for five days and hoped that someone would find him. 59.但当他的水喝光之后，他知道他必须做点什么来挽救自己的生命。 He was not ready to die that day. So he used his knife to cut off half his right arm. Then, with his left arm, he bandaged himself so that he would not lose too much blood. After that, he climbed down the mountain to find help.

After losing his arm, he wrote a book called Between a Rock and a Hard Place.This means being in a difficult situation that you cannot seem to get out of. 60.In this book, Aron tells of the importance of making good decisions, and of being in control of one's life. His love for mountain climbing is so great that he kept on climbing mountains even after this experience.

Do we have the same spirit as Aron? Let's think about it before we find ourselves "between a rock and a hard place", and before we have to make a decision that could mean life or death.

I had an accident with my plane in the Desert of Sahara (撒哈拉沙漠) 6 years ago. One morning, I heard a 1 . It said, "Could you please draw me a sheep?"

I looked 2  all around me and saw a very very small person. "Who are you?" I asked. However, he seemed not to 3  my question. 

"Could you please draw me a sheep?" he asked again. I was not good at drawing,4  I didn't want to say no. Then I drew a picture for him—a picture of a boa constrictor (大蟒蛇) eating a(n)5 . 

"No! I don't want an elephant inside a boa constrictor. It is very 6  and I'm afraid of it! I need a sheep!"

Can you 7  how surprised (惊讶的) I was at his words? Because people around me thought the 8  was a hat when I first drew it at 6! So I drew the 9  picture—a sheep. He looked at it carefully and said, "No. This sheep doesn't 10  so healthy. Please draw me another one."

So I drew the third picture. "This is not what I wanted 11 . This is a goat (山羊), not a sheep."

Then I did the fourth drawing. "This one is too 12 . I want a younger sheep. I hope it can live for long."

After hearing his words, I 13  my patience (耐心). Then I drew a box and told him, "This box is for 14  sheep. And your sheep is in it."

"Great! The sheep will not eat my rose," he said 15  a happy voice. That is how I met the little prince. 

 Have you ever decided what you want to do when you were a little child? Sounds impossible, but I did it.

 When I was in third grade, I watched a special video. I still1 the video, because the details(细节) of the video 2 influenced me. And since then,I have known what I wanted to do with 3 life.

 As a result, I4 what I wanted to be at nine, and I made it happen. Seems easy, right? Not quite! The road was difficult. I did my studies--university, then a PhD.5 along the way I was told many things: I was too young. wasn't qualified(具备资格). I should get married and have6 . I also needed money so I asked for six grants(拨款): The first7 replies I got said no. Six months later, the last reply came. This time it was yes.8 , I could start my own research.

 Today,I'm 9 to work as an archeologist(考古学家). That makes me have a sense of pride. I study the lives of people who lived in ancient Egypt. It's an exciting 10 . The feeling of holding a piece of history is an amazing feeling. I feel rather 11 .

 For anyone thinking about his 12 , I would say: Never give up. If you want to do something, keep trying. If people say"no" to you, don't give up, and use that- - it will 13 you. At the beginning, it hurts. But the next no hurts a little less. It makes you 14 and actually helps you. Second, focus on your dreams. You don't have to follow 15 . If they say something has never been done, make it happen.
