Edgar Snow (1905—1972) was an American reporter. He is best known for his books and articles on Communism in China and the Chinese Communist revolution.

Snow came to China in 1928. He spent over 10 years traveling {#blank#}1{#/blank#} in China and trying to understand its people. At the same time, he tried to show {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he learned to the rest of the world.

For examples, Red StarOver China, which came out in the 1930s, is {#blank#}3{#/blank#} as the first book that introduced China's revolution to the west. In it, Snow collected firsthand information on the Long March, as well as on the work and lifestyle of members of the Communist Party of China in Shanxi Province.

Many Westerners were introduced to the Party {#blank#}4{#/blank#} his book. Norman Bethune, a Canadian doctor, came to China after reading Snow's book. He worked {#blank#}5{#/blank#} to save the lives of Chinese soldiers during World War Ⅰ.

"When the whole world had forgotten us, Snow came to see us and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} the world what had happened. We will remember Snow's great help to China forever," Chairman Mao said during an interview with a German reporter in 1938.

Snow's {#blank#}7{#/blank#} is still needed now as well as in the future, according to People's Daily. "No writer has spoken more strongly about Sino-US relations than Edgar Snow. And no matter the era, people around the world always need some sort of link," the paper said.

Zhu Yuanzhang was the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty. He ended the Yuan Dynasty through an uprising (起义). When he organized the uprising, it was difficult to send messages {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(secret). One of his friends came up with{#blank#}7{#/blank#}idea. He gave mooncakes with a note hidden inside of them to other people. The note read, "Uprising on the fifteenth night of the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(eight) lunar (农历的) month." After the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (success) uprising, Zhu gave mooncakes as gifts to his people. Since then, it {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (be) a custom to eat mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Many people think firefighters only fight fires, but we do a lot more! Every day is different in our job. Some days are {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (danger) than others, but today something {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (fun) happened. We answered a call from {#blank#}3{#/blank#} worried neighbour. When we {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (arrive), we found a little boy sitting at the top of a tree looking very unhappy. The neighbour was below the tree {#blank#}5{#/blank#} shouted up, "Don't worry, Jake! The firefighters are here!" We got out our ladder and I climbed {#blank#}6{#/blank#}to the boy. I asked him, "What are you doing up here?" He looked at me {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (sad) and said, "I came up {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (save) my kitten (小猫). It was stuck in the tree." "Oh," I said. "And {#blank#}9{#/blank#}is your kitten now?" The boy pointed to a little grey kitten sitting by the front door of the house. "Well," I smiled, "I think you could be a good firefighter one day, but you need to learn to climb big {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (tree)!" The little boy laughed and I carried him down to his mother.

 Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday. It is one of {#blank#}1{#/blank#} four top traditional Chinese festivals with a history of over 2, 000 years. 

 Dragon Boat Festival {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( fall) on the fifth day of the fifth month lunar. This year, Chinese will have a 3-day public holiday {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Saturday to Monday for celebrations. The dragon boat race is one of them. And it is {#blank#}4{#/blank#}( warm) welcomed. 

 Many believe that Dragon Boat Festival {#blank#}5{#/blank#}( celebrate) to remember the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet. He jumped into the Miluo River for his country. The local people searched for Qu Yuan's body, {#blank#}6{#/blank#} failed. To stop fish from harming his body, people threw zongzi into the river {#blank#}7{#/blank#}( feed) the fish. Over time, eating zongzi and the boat race have been the traditional activities of Dragon Boat Festival. 

 Do you know that" Happy Dragon Boat Festival" might not be a good greeting for {#blank#}8{#/blank#}( we), although it sounds quite natural? For we Chinese, "Safe and Healthy Dragon Boat Festival" is much {#blank#}9{#/blank#}( popular) than that greeting. 

 In addition to Chinese, many other {#blank#}10{#/blank#}( country) also celebrate this festival. For example, in Singapore, the local seafood is used to make zongzi. Actually, Dragon Boat Festival has been a world-wide festival today.
