    Zhou Youguang, known as the "father of Pinyin" was a Chinese. He was born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, on 13 January 1906. At the age of ten, he and his family moved to Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. In 1918, he entered Changzhou High School.

    Zhou went to St. John's University in Shanghai in 1923. Then he went to Guanghua University in 1925. Later Zhou spent time in Japan as a foreign exchange student. After World War II, he moved to London, and then New York to work as a banker.

    Zhou returned to China in 1949 to help his country build a modern economy(经济学). In 1955, the government invited him to make necessary changes to the Chinese language. It took him about three years to design Pinyin, and it was a success.

    Zhou died on 14 January 2017 at his home in Beijing, a day after his birthday. At the time, he was the 17^th oldest living man in China.

 During lunchtime in Shenzhen, workers often line up to buy food from street vendors(小贩). But in the past, they weren't allowed to set up their stalls(摊位) anywhere on the streets in China. The stalls were believed to be bad for the image of a city." We have to keep the streets clean and tidy," the city government of Beijing once said.

 Things, though, began to change in recent months. In March, Shanghai and Hangzhou worked out detailed plans for stall businesses. And now Shenzhen is also preparing to welcome back street vendors. On April 28, it announced new guidelines on the management of street vending. Under the rules, street vendors will be allowed to operate in certain areas within the city. The new rules worked out on September 1,2023.

 Most people are glad to see vendors getting back on the streets."I think it's good and convenient," said one user on Weibo." Vendors can make money, while customers will have more choice."

 Street vending has long been considered as a lowly job in China. But in 2020, former Premier Li Keqiang pointed out that street vendors were the" lifeblood" of the country. Since then, many Chinese young people have seen the business as a way to get away from the stress of traditional work culture. Some of them can now be seen setting up stalls on weekends in Shanghai.

At No. 150 High School of Changchun, Jilin Province, there are some talented students. They recreated the work A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains that{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(paint) by Wang Ximeng during the Northern Song Dynasty.

Zhou Baile is among{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(they). He spent much time and energy on the work. Once there was yellow paint on his school uniform. His family suggested that he change into a new school uniform,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} he refused." For me, the paint is a symbol of creation," Zhou said.

" The painting is 11 metres long and it took the students 129 days{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(finish) it," said Duan Yingzi, the art teacher who guided the students.
