Canada Day

Since 1982, July 1st has been officially known as Canada Day. Canadians of all ages take part in this festival across the country.

Canada Day is the year's biggest national party. In many towns and cities, the government organizes a lot of events, often outdoors. These include parades (游行) , concerts, festivals, firework displays and ceremonies for new Canadian citizens (公民) .The celebrations often have a patriotic mood. Canada's national flag, a symbol for Canada Day, can be seen everywhere and a lot of people paint their faces red and white, which are Canada's national colors. The celebrations in Ottawa, Canada's capital city, are especially grand and exciting.

In the province of Quebec, many home rentals (租赁) start on July 1st and last for exactly one year, and many people in Quebec spend Canada Day moving from one house to another. So in Quebec, Canada Day is also known as Moving Day.

Many organizations, businesses and stores are closed this day. Only some bookstores, hospitals and gas stations may be open. Post offices are closed, too. As Canada Day falls in the Canadian summer holiday period, all schools are closed as well. In some areas, special services are provided for large events. The concerts, parades and festivals may cause some traffic jams.

Good and bad manners（礼仪） make up the social rules of a country.They are not always easy to learn because they are often not written in books.Let's see some social rules in Britain.

In the past，most British women didn't go to pubs（酒吧） because it was not considered good behavior for a woman.Now both women and men can drink freely in pubs.

Visitors to Britain often see British people wait in line in public places.It is considered impolite to get on a bus without waiting your turn in line.And if you don't wait your turn，the other people in line will probably warn you to line up loudly.

In some countries it is considered bad manners to eat in the street.However，in Britain it is common to see people having a snack while walking down the road.

British people used to be surprised to see young children in restaurants in the evening because children were not usually taken out to restaurants at night.These days children are playing a more active role and they are now accepted in many restaurants at night.

In recent years，many British companies have banned smoking in their offices and even in the whole buildings.Smoking is also banned on the London Underground，in cinemas and theaters and on most buses.It can be seen less and less in public places.It is also considered bad manners to smoke in someone's house without asking the owner.

Social rules are an important part of every country.The British have an expression for these"unwritten rules"：When in Rome，do as the Romans do.

 Making your school a better place will make everyone around you happier.{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Besides，a better place will also make you more productive （有效的）.The following are some of the ways to make your school a better place.

◆Stand up bravely.{#blank#}2{#/blank#}Speak up confidently and tell them to stop.This will help create a better atmosphere at school.

◆Try to deal with arguments between other kids.When you see other students in an argument，you can help deal with the problem.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}After all，many arguments in school are just misunderstandings between two people.

◆{#blank#}4{#/blank#}If you know that other students have difficulty learning a subject that you're good at，you can help them by teaching them in that subject.Helping other students to improve their grades will help create a positive atmosphere in school.

◆Make friends with lonely students.If you notice a student who doesn't have many friends or sits alone at lunch，make it a point to become their friend.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}So why not encourage other people to become friends with them？

A．Encourage your classmates to talk to each other.

B．Friendship will make them less lonely.

C．Teach other students if you can.

D．It will also get you more excited to go every day.

E．Do not stay silent when you see another student getting hurt by others.

Here are two nice photos of my friend. In the first one is my good friend, Gina Smith. And she's 14 years old. She comes from England, but now she lives in China. Gina is a nice and beautiful girl. She likes sports very much. Her favorite sport is tennis. She doesn't like basketball.

Gina can speak English, Chinese and a little French. We are in the same class, so she often helps me with English. Her favorite subject is music because she thinks it's really interesting!

Her big family are in the next photo. Her father Jack is a driver and her mother Mary works in a clinic(诊所) as a nurse. She has a sister and a brother, Jenny and Jackson. They are not in our school, but we are also good friends. They live a happy life in China.
