Recently, I've found many old photos of Mom, Dad, David, me and my first dog Coco. They meant a lot to me. I wondered how to keep them forever. Luckily, my son used a new app to clear up and improve some of the old photos. Looking at them brought back so many loving and happy memories. I even used one as my computer screen saver(屏保).

It is a picture of me sitting in my favorite chair,across from the wood stove(炉子) next to a bookcase full of old books. I am wearing my special Snoopy shirt and hugging Coco. There is a big smile on my face and a joyful shining light in my eyes. It was how I spent a lot of my winter afternoons as a girl, hugging Coco and reading an old book.

It is surprising how 60 years later that girl still lives inside of me. I still love comfortable chairs, warm stoves, Snoopy clothes, hugging dogs and reading books on cold winter days. But when I look in the mirror now, all I see is a thin face, grey hair, and lots of wrinkles(皱纹). The only thing that hasn't completely changed is the eyes. They are hiding behind glasses now and full of wisdom(智慧) given by ages. But they still have that same joyful shining light.

Looking at the little girl smiling at me from the computer screen and that 66-year-old woman looking back at me in the mirror can be a little bit strange at times. They look so different. However, they are both me. We can't stop getting older, but we can remain both joyful and young at heart forever.

1. Do you yawn (打哈欠)? There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning. 

2. We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too. 

3. Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? In 2007, scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down. 

4. Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you are young, you breathe deeply. You also stretch (强化) the muscles (肌肉) in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums (耳膜) stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things. 

5. In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air. 

6. Scientists do not spend much time studying yawning. That is probably because yawning does not hurt. It is just something we do. 

I have always been fascinated by the animal world. Recently，I read a novel about animals called A Lion's Traveling. Chinese writer Shen Shixi wrote it. 

The book tells the story of five male lions. They are driven out of their home and begin their adventure. Unluckily，one is hurt by a giraffe. Another is killed by a hunter. The third one dies during a fight for water with a rhino（犀牛）. The fourth lion drowns（淹死），named Red Ribbon（红飘带），is still alive. After going through many difficulties

The story shows the love and care between friends，the life and death faced by brothers，the determination（决心），and the passion for life. The fact that the young lion finally becomes the king teaches me a great lesson：Those who cannot beat you will make you stronger. Everyone will face lots of difficulties during their lifetime. We should learn to stay strong and continue to find our best selves. 

The book is filled with exciting details about the lives of lions. Together with vivid pictures，it gives readers an impressive experience. You can not only read the great story but also learn a lot about the animals in the real world. I highly suggest reading it!

① The 24th Winter Olympic Games took place in Beijing, but the city was no stranger to competitive (竞技性的) sports on snow and ice. 

② In fact, competitive winter sports were already popular in China a thousand years ago in the form of bingxi(playing on ice). Bingxi began in the Song Dynasty and became really popular during the Qing Dynasty. Emperor (皇帝) Qianlong hosted bingxi nearly every year. He had the first one in 1742, almost two hundred years before the first Winter Olympic Games. 

③ Many ancient painters painted pictures about the events of bingxi. Bingxi paintings show scenes (场景) of bingxi during the Qing Dynasty. 

④ In bingxi, there are three kinds of ice skating. The first one is the speed race which is similar to modern speed skating. Participants (参赛者) skate to the emperor's ice bed, from two to three kilometres away. In the painting, the emperor sits inside his ice bed. Whoever reaches the emperor first wins first prize. The second is figure skating. Jumps, spins (旋转) and pair work moves in modern figure skating can all be found in the painting. The third is soccer on ice. Participants in two teams skate, kick and try to score goals. 

⑤ The love for winter sports never diminished in China. People in the past showed great interest in winter sports and today more and more people take part in this kind of sport. 

I'm Mike. I am a junior high school student. Junior high is different from primary school. These differences help us grow and learn new things. My parents help me a lot during this time.

 In junior high, we have more subjects. This means I need to plan my time well. In primary school, my teacher told me what to do. Now, I have to make my timetable for study. At first, this was not easy for me. However, my parents help me by showing me how to create(创造) a timetable. They teach me to turn big task into small ones, then work on them one after another. It's useful.

 Making new friends is another part of growing up. In junior high, I meet many new people. Sometimes,I feel shy about talking to them. My parents tell me to be brave(勇敢的). They also tell me I can join clubs. Because it's easier for us to make friends with others through clubs.

 The challenges in junior high also teach us important lessons. For example, when I face problems, I must learn to be patient (耐心的) and work hard. My parents tell me that it is OK to make mistakes because I can learn from them.

 Thanks to my parents, I believe I can work out any problems in junior high and grow as a better man.
