Dancing is popular all over the world. People dance in theaters, in parks or in their own living room. But Yang Liu, a woman in Guizhou, dances in an unusual place. Her stage is a single bamboo pole. 

Yang is a performer of bamboo drifting (独竹漂). It is a traditional skill in the girl's hometown. In ancient times, the local people crossed the rivers by riding on a bamboo pole. Now, bamboo drifting has developed into a folk sport.

Yang started to learn bamboo drifting at the age of seven. The bamboo pole is very slippery and it never completely stops moving. Yang fell into the water again and again. But the girl didn't want to give up. She always got back up on the pole and tried again. She practiced hard every day for three years. Finally, she was able to keep her balance on the pole. 

But Yang didn't just stop there. She wanted to live out her dream of becoming a dancer on a bamboo pole. The girl practiced many difficult movements on the pole. She failed countless times, but she never stopped trying. 

Her hard work finally paid off. Now 26, Yang has made a name for herself as a dancer on a bamboo pole. People can't believe their eyes whenever they watch her performances. Through Yang's dances, many people now know about bamboo drifting. They have discovered the beauty of this traditional skill.

Today I turned eight. Today whatever I say goes. 

My grandma is cooler than most grandmas and laughs a lot,1 is the exact opposite. He's that old and serious. "Kids are impolite these days, and have no 2 ." he always says. "All they do is playing video games all the time." But I 3 play video games on weekends!

Anyway, the minute we park on the driveway, I get out and run straight to Grandma 4 Dad, who's still on the phone dealing with his business in the car as usual. "Happy birthday, honey!" Grandma holds me into her arms and says 5 that she's made my favorite chocolate cake.

And then I 6 Grandpa, who is asleep in a rocking chair, snoring （打鼾） like thunder. Can you believe it? On his only grandson's birthday! 

"7 , sleepyhead!" I call out. But more snores followed. An angry storm is coming up inside me.

"Oh, it's Parker's 8 !" Grandma calls out to Grandpa. He coughs. It seems to be ages for him to get to his feet and say, "boy, come here." But I don't 9 . 

"You and I," says Grandpa，rising slowly, "are going on a walk." 

"All right." I know what he's about to say: respect the elders, blah blah blah. But to my 10 , he says in a soft voice, "your parents are always very 11 , aren't they?"

"Hold my arms and help me into that chair. "For a second, I stood still. 12 when I see his legs shaking as he bends his knees, I rush over to hold his arms, I set him down nice and slow. "13 ," he says. He's breathing hard, like he's just climbed a mountain.

I sit down next to him. He covers my hand with his warm one. "Tell 14 all about the video game you like," he says. "Then I'll tell you some stories of my own. And we'll both listen to each other and ask good questions. Deal?"

I 15 in disbelief. And for some strange reason, it feels more like my birthday than ever.

Our community library decided to offer a painting class. I told my friend Ella, and we both signed up.

On the big day, our first 1 was to paint a white vase of cheerful yellow sunflowers against a blue background.

We were asked to paint our canvas (画布) 2 . It was easy to follow the instructor to move the brush. Although I had never painted before, I could tell I was a 3 . I started thinking about where I would hang my new masterpiece.

Immediately after that, however, I began to run into 4 . The first curved (弯曲的) line of my vase looked perfect, but when I painted the line on the opposite side, my hand slipped (打滑). I tried to 5 that white streak (条痕) with blue paint, but it didn't work.

While I was busy fixing my messy painting, the instructor explained how to paint the sunflower leaves. Things went downhill fast after that. My leaves looked like fat, green caterpillars (毛毛虫). When I failed to clean my paintbrush, I accidentally made the sunflowers green. I felt 6 when I saw how good everyone else's paintings looked.

Ella sweetly praised my sunflowers, perhaps feeling sorry for me. When I said that hers were much better, she looked surprised. "No, they're not. I messed up in at least five places." After a few seconds, she asked, "Want to 7 paintings?"

Until that moment, I had felt only dislike for my painting. And yet for some reason, giving it away felt wrong. It wasn't a perfect painting, but it was mine—the first one I had ever created. I knew Ella must have realized that she felt the same way when she suddenly shook her head and said. "Never mind."

My sunflower painting still hangs directly above my bed. I often look at it. Every time I look at it. I 8 . It always brightens my day and brings warmth to my room. I really like it now.

Once, Einstein gave a lecture in a university. After his speech, the audience started asking questions.

A girl asked, "Do you think you're1 giant of science?" Einstein said 2 a smile. "A giant is a person who is tall in height. You see I'm so small, How can I be a giant? Maybe I see a bit farther, only 3 I stand higher!" Then a boy asked. "You mentioned you stand higher than 4 . It reminded me that you had a talk with a lady on the top of the Alps. I don't want to ask 5 you talked about, but I want to know whether you realized you had been a top in the history of science when you stood on the top."

Looking at the boy6 , Einstein replied, "Well,7 height cannot become a top. And there is no top that no one can get to, so we don't want to be a top, but we want to be a person to climb to the top!" Then he took up a piece of chalk and 8 on the blackboard, "Standing on the top, you are not tall, but even smaller!" Then he said, "Though I stand high, in the eyes of the world I'm still small! Finally, I can tell you a sentence, which was the last one I 9 the lady on the top of the Alps, ‘Any top can be reached, for there is no giant in the world but the one 10 stands higher!'"

A storm of applause sounded. The lady who listened to Einstein's instruction on the Alps that year was no other than Madam Curie!

My name is Sally. I am a junior high school student from Guangdong. My school life is very busy but exciting. I have eight lessons a day. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} But my favourite subject is labour(劳动). I have two labour classes every week. I like labour classes because I can learn much from them.

In June 2024, some junior high school students in Guangzhou visited the Guangdong Museum. As for my school, we also go out of the classroom to learn new things. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}It is usually from 17th to 22nd in September. 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} We can plant some trees and flowers. We clean our school. We also learn to cook. Now I can cook tomato and egg noodles. It's easy. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} And I can cook the noodles by myself when my parents are not at home.

Sometimes we also go to the farm and help farmers. 

We can pick some fruit and vegetables. We learn that the work on the farm is difficult. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Having labour classes makes us learn something new. I love labour classes so much.

When my children were young, I used to read to them every evening before bed. One of their favorite stories was called Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch. Mr. Hatch lived a 1 life. He walked alone to work every day and ate his lunch alone in a corner. He never 2 . He never talked to anyone on his way home. In the evening, he never visited friends and he would read a newspaper and go to bed3 .

His life changed, however, on Valentine's Day when he got a heart- shaped box full of 4 in the mail, along with a note that said, " Somebody loves you. Hope you like the chocolate. " At  first, he couldn't believe it, but when he let the message understood, he began to laugh and dance  around. That message opened his heart to the power of love. Soon he found himself being cheerful. He became a joy at work and began to 5  people in the neighborhood. As the days and weeks went by, his laughter, smiles, kindness, happiness and love6 everyone in his community. 

 Later, Mr. Hatch found out that the heart- shaped box had been delivered to him by7 . He felt8 and went back to his old ways. When his neighbors found out, however, they decided not to lose the light he shared. They 9 him with a party and a huge banner(条幅) that read: " Everybody Loves Mr. Hatch. " Mr. Hatch cried when he realized that somebody loved him after all. Then he laughed, smiled and hugged with his friends. 

Sometimes we all feel unloved and unlovable. However, somebody does love us. May the pages of your life story be full of 10 .
