Frank is a small schoolboy. His school has so many rules for 1. He doesn't like any of them because he thinks they are all 2."The school asks us not to do this 3that. I'm not happy about it," He often says.

    Frank can swim. He always wants to 4how good he is at swimming. One day he comes to the lake in his school. There is a school rule about this lake: Don't 5in it! Frank doesn't like the rule and he jumps into it.

    When he is in the lake, he finds he is 6. The lake is so deep and the water in it 7very dirty. He feels terrible and can't swim well in the lake. He needs 8 The two teachers come and help 9out of the lake. From that day on, he knows it's important to 10the school rules.

    What do you think of the school rules in your school?

    It was very cold, Amaya was warm in her house, thinking about an article she'd read at school. The article was about kids who 1 out their communities, and she thought it would be really cool to help her own town, Harvard.

    The only2 was that she wasn't sure how to help. In the article, the kids had grown food for people who needed food, but it was winter. She couldn't start a garden. Amaya was deep in thought when her mom said it was time to go shopping.

    As they drove along the road, Amaya saw a family wearing only light jackets. The cold wind blew 3 outside. How cold they must be! That gave her an idea! She could 4  winter coats, hats and gloves for people who needed them.

    She shared her idea with her mom, who thought it was great. But how would they 5 the idea to get plenty of winter clothing? Amaya decided to talk to her teacher, because then she could share her idea with her classmates at least.

    Ms. Monroe agreed when Amaya talked about her idea. They decided to call the 6  Hats in Harvard. Then they wrote a letter explaining the project. They also met with the headmaster during lunch time. He was excited about the idea, and said he would make sure copies (复印件) of the letter went home with all the students.

    They collected enough winter clothing in only one week. Then they left the clothes around two parks, so families who needed clothes could get them there. Three days later, Amaya and her mom went shopping again. She saw the same family that had given her the7for Hats in Harvard.  This time, though, the family wore some new coats, hats and gloves. Amaya felt 8 in her heart, and was very glad she could help others.

Dorothy lived with her uncle Henry and aunt Em who were both farmers.Their house had only four walls，a floor and a small space under the floor to protect them from powerful winds.The house was in the middle of poor land with strong sunlight and few plants.Aunt Em used to be young and cheerful，but the sun and wind had taken away her happiness.Uncle Henry also looked serious and strict.Only Toto，could bring laughter into Dorothy's life.

One day，they heard low sounds of wind from both the north and the south.Uncle Henry realized a strong wind was coming.He rushed to protect the animals while Aunt Em hurried Dorothy to the basement.Suddenly，the house began to rock and rise to the air.In the center，but Dorothy found herself riding safely on the rising house.

Frightened，Toto ran around the room until Dorothy caught him and protected him from falling through the open door.She closed it carefully to avoid further danger.As hours passed，Dorothy slowly got over her fear.She finally fell asleep on her bed with Toto by her side.The wind had set Dorothy's house down gently in a beautiful country.

As she looked around, she saw green grass, fruitful trees, and colourful flowers.Birds with special feathers sang and flew around.As she stood enjoying the beautiful views, a group of strangely dressed people came near. They wore round hats that rose to a small point a foot above their heads. Three men were dressed in blue, and a little woman wore a white dress. They stopped and discussed in a low voice, as if afraid to come farther.

Jamie was tired. She had been on her feet for hours. Her mom {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(拥有) a small but busy restaurant in town. Three of the workers were {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(生 病的 ) that morning. There was a big food festival in the city park that day. and Jamie was a big {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (迷) of it. Jamie {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (仅) wanted to sit down for a while. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (代替), she walked around the restaurant with no break. As soon as she {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(清理) one table,a new set of customers(顾客) walked in. That meant more orders and more coffee.

"Order up!"called the cook from the kitchen. Jamie was very sleepy. She didn't move, and just thought about {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(令人惊叹的) foods in the festival from all over the world.Jami {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(想象) the delicious smells(气味) of new and special foods.

"{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(赶快) up, Jamie!"said the cook.

"I'm coming," Jamie answered in a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} (焦虑的) voice.

"Amma, your son has sent money to you," said the postman to the old lady. She was sitting outside her house. Seeing him, Amma's face lighted up. "Let me first talk to my son," she was looking at him with hopeful eyes. But the postman tried to avoid it, "Amma, I don't have so much time. Don't talk with your son every time."

The postman wanted to go but Amma stopped him. She said, "It will take just a while." Hearing this, the postman dialed (拨号) a number on his mobile phone.After talking to her son on the phone, Amma was happy.

Then, the postman handed eight 100-rupee (卢比，货币单位) notes to Amma. After counting the money, she took out one note and gave it to the postman.

"Why, Amma?" asked the postman. Amma smiled and said, "You bring me money and also let me talk to my son. It must cost money, right? So keep it." Amma went inside after giving him lots of blessings (祝福).

The postman left and met his friend Ramu. "Every month you give your own money to Amma. Not only that, you give me money to talk to her on the phone as her son! Why?" Ramu asked.

The postman said, "Her son worked in a foreign country and used to send money to his mother every month. But one day, her son was missing. Now, he's still out of touch. I don't want to tell this to Amma. So I send her some money and ask you to talk with her on the phone."

In honour of Mother's Day, Michelle shares memories of her mum, Marian Robinson. In a special speech, she reflects on what she learned about parenting from her own mother:

My mother is a woman who chooses her words carefully. She sometimes speaks slowly with a smile to make herself understood. It's a style that makes her a good partner or friend who doesn't need the limelight(公众焦点). 

As I've grown older, I've seen how her manner in conversation reflects her way of parenting. When it came to raising her kids, my mum knew that her voice was less important than allowing me to use my own, which meant she listened a lot more than told you how she thought you should behave. During my growing up, she was willing to endure(忍受) endless questions from me: Why do we have to eat eggs for breakfast? Why do people need jobs? Why are the houses bigger in their neighbourhoods? Why do we need to study? She would listen patiently to my reasons, instead of speaking angrily to me, if I had a fight with some of the neighbour kids. 

In today's world, it is easy to think that she wasn't being responsible, and that she was letting the kids rule the roost But that was not true. She and my father love their children very much, pouring a deep and long- lasting foundation(基础) of goodness and honesty, of right and wrong, into my brother and me. Even if I got bad grades at school, she never punished me seriously. Instead, she always talked about the reasons with me. What they did simply let us be ourselves. 

. . . I see now how important that kind of freedom is for all children, especially for girls. . . It's up to us, as mothers and mother figures, to give the girls in our lives the kind of support(支持) that lifts up their voices—not necessarily with our own words, but by letting them find the words themselves.
