No one knows exactly when jazz was invented, or by whom. But it is said that it began in the early 1900s. Jazz was a new kind of music, for America and the world, and New Orleans was {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(它的) birthplace.

Who were the jazz pioneers?{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(大多数) were blacks. This music was not written down, and at first only blacks played it. It was hard for white musical people to learn the new style. But soon they were playing jazz, too.

The popularity of this music{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(传播) from New Orleans. It traveled up the Mississippi to Chicago, then to Kansas City and New York. By the 1920s, there were many jazz musicians, both black and white. Many of them were{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(著名的). A man named Louis Armstrong is one of them.

Louis Armstrong was not only a born musician but also hard-working. He had a good{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(感觉) of humor and a big smile and he always smiled happily. These personal qualities were{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(珍贵的) in his life.{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(在……以后) he became famous, he traveled around the world. It seemed that everyone wanted to hear Louis play. But life was not always easy,{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(尤其) at the beginning.

Louis Armstrong was born in 1900 in New Orleans. His father never went to school and his mother could hardly read. When Louis was still a kid, his parents{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(分离), and Louis lived with his mother. How hard their life was can be imagined! However, Louis smiled through{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(一切). He later wrote, "My whole life has been filled with happiness. Life was there for me and I accepted it, Whatever happened has been valuable to me. That's the beauty of it. I love everybody."

① Animal behavior is an interesting and attractive study. Scientists research the ways animals use to look for food. They study how animals protect themselves from their predators, and which animals kill other animals for food. All of this helps us understand how useful animals can be.

② Each country or culture raises some animals for food. In the United States, people mainly eat meat from cows, chickens and pigs. In some other countries, people might raise sheep or buffalo for meat. These differences come in part from weather and other environmental conditions (状况). People around the world eat all kinds of fish and shellfish from oceans and rivers. In some countries, people don't always choose some animal groups, such as dogs, for food while in other countries such animals may become people's favorite food.

③ In West Africa, animals provide humans with more than food. They have been helping people do daily work for thousands of years. Horses, oxen, and other work animals pull heavy things. Elephants, camels and other animals carry people and things from place to place. Carrier pigeons (信鸽) have been used to send messages.

④ People also receive health benefits (利益) from animals. For example, dogs and cats can help calm people down. This is helpful for people fighting illnesses. Animals can also reduce stress, helping people to draw their attention to learning new information, such as reading. When people are walking their dogs or horses, it encourages exercise.

⑤ Animals and humans share space on Earth, so keeping a healthy relationship with animals around us is in our best interest.

China sent three astronauts (宇航员) to its space station on Tuesday. The astronauts flew in a rocket called Shenzhou-16. It's the first time a regular (普通的) person from China is going to space. It's really exciting!

The rocket took off from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre. The astronauts flew for more than six hours to reach the space station's central part, Tianhe. Everything went well, and the astronauts were feeling good now.

Many workers from the space program were there to see the rocket launch. Kids played and waved Chinese flags. People said "wow" loudly and wished the astronauts good luck as the rocket went up in smoke.

The crew has Jing Haipeng, who is on his fourth time to go to space. He's with Engineer Zhu Yangzhu and Professor Gui Haichao from Beihang University. Gui Haichao is the first regular person from China to go to space. China was the third country to send human into space.

The Shenzhou-16 crew will meet the Shenzhou-15 crew, who will return to Earth soon. They will do many experiments, and the space station was filled with water, clothes and food earlier this month.

China really wants to make its "space dream" come true. They plan to build a base on the moon by 2030. Lin from CMSA said, "The main goal is to have Chinese astronauts land on the moon and do experiments there."

Ever wondered why a simple walk along the beach or a moment by a lakeside feels so relaxed? Or why the sound of a flowing river can calm the mind? There's a scientific reason behind our strong feeling for water.

According to Wallace J. Nichols, being close to water can cause a certain state(状态) of mind. The scientist call it"Blue Mind". This state is marked by relaxation and a sense of happiness.

This theory is well supported by science. Researchers have found that water can lower the body's levels of the stress hormone(压力荷尔蒙). One study found that people living near bodies of water report feeling calmer and less stressed. The sight and sound of water are believed to bring about a flood of neurochemicals(神经化学物质), which can increase blood flow to the brain and heart, and help you relax.

Water activities, from swimming to even watching animals in the sea, can help calm the mind and reduce stress levels. In addition, the blue color of water has also been proven to have calming effects on the mind. Research shows that blue spaces are as helpful as green spaces ( like forests and parks) when it comes to creating feelings of love. They can both improve mood. What if it's hard to get water? Even listening to the sound of water can help reduce stress levels.

So, the next time you' re feeling down or in need of a break, consider spending time near a body of water. Whether it's the ocean, a river, a lake, or simply a swimming pool, water will calm your mind.

①Do you remember the name of your kindergarten teacher? I do, Her name was Mrs. White. 

②I don't remember much about what we learned in her class, but my mother once told me that we used to write a lot. And I would bring back what I wrote and she would look at it and see there were so many mistakes. But no red corrections. And always a star. Sometimes even a Good! That worried my mother a lot, so one day she asked Mrs. White why she never corrected my mis- takes; in spellings of words or pointed out grammatical errors. 

③Mrs. White said, "The children are just beginning to get excited about using words, about forming sentences. I don't want to dampen that interest with red ink. Spelling and grammar can wait. . . "

④She is right! I did grow up learning to use words with loving confidence just like that. I look back now and think she must have been a rather extraordinary teacher— to restrain(限制) her red pen— to allow the joy, wonder and excitement of expression. 

⑤I used to misspell"beautiful" a lot. I never could quite remember that the"e" went before the"a". It annoyed my teacher in high school endlessly. Eventually the"e" and"a" settled into their right places. I am glad I didn't wait on them though. "Pretty" is easier to spell but it doesn't hold as much as you mean sometimes. 

⑥And thanks to Mrs. White I had no concerns about writing what I meant, even if I couldn't quite spell it out. After all, life isn't pretty. It's beautiful.
