It was late, about 10:15 p.m., when Janice Esposito arrived at the Bellport train station; she jumped into her Honda Odyssey and began the 20-minute drive home to her husband and seven-year-old son. She'd just returned from visiting her mother and had traveled the route many times before. She practically drove on autopilot: a left onto Station Road, then a left on Montauk Highway, and then—wham!

Out of nowhere a car T-boned Esposito's minivan, pushing her to move backward some 100 feet onto the railroad tracks. She sat in the minivan, bruised (撞伤) but mostly just knocked out by the impact and the airbags.

As it happened, Pete DiPinto was getting ready for bed. He'd just closed his book and was getting under the covers when he heard the sound of metal on metal and breaking glass coming from not far outside his bedroom window. A volunteer firefighter and retired teacher, DiPinto, 64, never stopped to think. He grabbed a flashlight and, still dressed in his pajamas (睡衣), ran out of the door. "Any firefighter would have done what I did," he told Newsday. "We're always on duty."

The first car he came upon, 2,000 feet from his front yard, was the one that had hit Esposito. Once DiPinto concluded the driver was OK, he looked around and sprinted to Esposito's minivan positioned on the railroad tracks.

注意:1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卷的相应位置作答。

读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

In the busy city of New York, such an amazing thing ever happened. On a cold Friday night, a poor artist stood at the gate of the subway station, playing his violin. The young violinist was a student at an Arts College named Joseph, who did so every day in order to earn his tuition fees. He planned to attend advanced studies in Vienna and had booked the flight the next morning. Though the music was great, people were quickly going home for the weekend. Joseph was playing his last chapter when a middle _aged man looking pretty excited slowed down his pace and put 50 dollars into the hat, for which Joseph was grateful.

The next night, the young artist came to the gate of the subway station as usual, and put his hat on the ground gracefully. Different from the day before, he took out a large piece of paper and laid it on the ground and put some stones on it. Then he began playing the violin.

Before long, the young artist was surrounded with many passers—by, who were all attracted by the words on that paper. It said, "Last night, a gentleman named George Sang put an unexpected thing into my hat by mistake. Please come to claim it as soon as possible."

It caused a great excitement and curiosity. They were dying to know what the unexpected thing could be. After about half an hour, a middle aged man ran there in a hurry and rushed through the crowd to the violinist and grabbed his shoulders and said. Yes, it's you. You did come here. I knew that you are an honest man and would certainly come here."

The young violinist asked calmly,"Are you Mr George Sang?"

The man nodded .The violinist asked, "Did you lose something?"

"Lottery. It's lottery," replied the man.

The violinist took out a lottery ticket on which George Sang's name was seen.。"Is it?" he asked.

George nodded promptly and seized the lottery ticket and kissed it, and then he danced with Joseph.

Once, when I was a teenager my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally there was only one family between us and the ticket counter.

This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn't have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean, the children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the clowns, elephants and other acts they would see that night with their brothers or sisters in a low voice. One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be a highlight of their young lives.

The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proud as they could be. The mother was holding her husband s hand, looking up at him as if to say, "You are my knight in shining armor." He was smiling and responding in pride, looking back at her as if to say "You got that right". The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded "please let me buy eight children's tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus.

The ticket lady gave the price. The man's wife let go of his hand, lowered her head and her lips began to shake. The father leaned a little closer and asked, "How much did you say?" The ticket lady again told him the price. The man obviously didn't have enough money.

How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight children that he didn't have enough money to take them to the circus? Actually we were not wealthy in any sense, so I understand how the kids would feel. I felt sorry for them.

Rain is pouring down today, which brings back sweet memories of our dog, Bambi. She-joined our family at the age of four months. Like all puppies, she was full of energy and wonder. Our boys described excitedly that she looked just like the young deer, Bambi, in the movie they had watched recently. The name fitted her personality perfectly.

Bambi also had all the fine physical characteristics of the German Shepherd. She was strong, yet gentle and shy. We were a young family with two growing, energetic boys, so she fitted right in with our lifestyle. Bambi loved the boys. She would play with them until they were completely tired.

When Bambi was almost two years old, a full-grown dog, she became quite protective of us. She never failed to watch the boys. If any stranger entered our yard, she'd watch him or her with sharp eyes and let out a low bark. Even though Bambi had this protective instinct (本能), she never hurt anyone. Nevertheless, she did manage to frighten (惊吓) away many welcome and unwelcome guests.

On one occasion, I had called a repairman to come to our home to fix the refrigerator. I was at work, and the boys were home with the babysitter. I told the repairman by phone that we had a dog, but it would be safe to enter the house because the babysitter would be there to meet him. However, when the repairman arrived, the babysitter and boys went outside. As he went close to our front door, Bambi was outside and she barked at him while she guarded the door. As long as the man attempted to move, Bambi would jump up and bark more fiercely (凶猛地). This man had never seen such a fierce dog before and was frightened too much. He had no idea whether to go away or scream for help.

Paragraph 1:

Luckily, the babysitter and boys returned from their walk at that time.

Paragraph 2

Though Bambi was so brave, there, was a side to her personality that didn't match her.

She was the prettiest little dog we had ever seen, and the whole family immediately fell in love with her. We named her Onyx because of her thick, shiny black coat. She spent her first vacation with us when she was only ten weeks old and had her first bath and swim in the St. Lawrence River. We had no clue that this amazing little ball of fur would end up being our hero. As she grew older, Onyx became more and more involved in our family activities. On hot summer days, Onyx enjoyed floating on the river with us in her own rubber tube(橡皮圈). Amazingly standing on the top of the tube, she smiled while showing off her perfect balance. Resting her front legs and paws over the edge of the rubber tube, she kept her eyes shut as she floated until she'd had enough of the warm sun on her black coat.

One day, our eighteen-year-old daughter, Margie, announced she was going to swim across the bay. No one in the family was free to go swimming with her. The unwritten rule, regardless of swimming ability, was to have a companion in the water with you, especially when swimming the width of the bay. I was not a good swimmer, so I said to Margie, "Take Onyx with you. "Having heard her name, Onyx woke up from a nap and was ready for action. Margie signed the dog to follow her. Onyx ran to the water next to her. They entered the freezing river together and swam side by side across the bay.

I watched from the riverbank as they reached the sandbar(沙洲 )on the far shore. They rested a few minutes before diving into the water for the return trip. I felt uneasy for some reason and continued to watch the pair swim side by side.

注意:

1. 续写词数应为150左右;

2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

paragraph1: Suddenly I heard Margie calling out, "I have a cram(痉挛)in the leg! "

paragraph2: Seeing the pair approaching the riverbank, I breathed a sigh of relief.
