In the busy city of New York, such an amazing thing ever happened. On a cold Friday night, a poor artist stood at the gate of the subway station, playing his violin. The young violinist was a student at an Arts College named Joseph, who did so every day in order to earn his tuition fees. He planned to attend advanced studies in Vienna and had booked the flight the next morning. Though the music was great, people were quickly going home for the weekend. Joseph was playing his last chapter when a middle _aged man looking pretty excited slowed down his pace and put 50 dollars into the hat, for which Joseph was grateful.

The next night, the young artist came to the gate of the subway station as usual, and put his hat on the ground gracefully. Different from the day before, he took out a large piece of paper and laid it on the ground and put some stones on it. Then he began playing the violin.

Before long, the young artist was surrounded with many passers—by, who were all attracted by the words on that paper. It said, "Last night, a gentleman named George Sang put an unexpected thing into my hat by mistake. Please come to claim it as soon as possible."

It caused a great excitement and curiosity. They were dying to know what the unexpected thing could be. After about half an hour, a middle aged man ran there in a hurry and rushed through the crowd to the violinist and grabbed his shoulders and said. Yes, it's you. You did come here. I knew that you are an honest man and would certainly come here."

The young violinist asked calmly,"Are you Mr George Sang?"

The man nodded .The violinist asked, "Did you lose something?"

"Lottery. It's lottery," replied the man.

The violinist took out a lottery ticket on which George Sang's name was seen.。"Is it?" he asked.

George nodded promptly and seized the lottery ticket and kissed it, and then he danced with Joseph.

One day when I was 12, my mother gave me an order: I was to walk to the public library, and borrow at least one book for the summer. This was one more way for her to solve my strange problem—inability to read. (阅读障碍)

In the library, I found my way into the “Children's Room". I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf. The cover of a book caught my eye. It presented a picture of a dog. I had recently had a dog, the first and only animal companion I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer, but later he was given away to someone who had the space and the money to care for him. I never forget my dog.

There on the book's cover was a dog which looked the same with my dog. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos, the Dog with a Plan. Unknowingly, I had read the title. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for summer.

Under the shade of a bush, I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story about a dog who, like mine, had been separated from his family and who finally found his way back home. At the end of the story, my mind continued the final scene of reunion. When I finished my reading, a stream of tears ran down my checks. It was until then I realized that I have overcome my inability to read. Thus, this was the very first book for me which I had read through and deeply immersed in real sense.

Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi for a living. One night I went to pick up a passenger at 2:30 a. m. When I arrived to collect her, I found the building was dark except for a single light in a ground floor window.

I walked to the door and knocked, "Just a minute," answered a weak, elderly voice.

After a long time, the door opened. A small woman in her eighties stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase.

I took the suitcase to the car, and then returned to help the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly towards the car.

She kept thanking me for my kindness. "It's nothing," I told her. "I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated."

"Oh, you're such a good man." She said. When we got into the taxi, she gave me an address, and then asked, "Could you drive through downtown?"

"It's not the shortest way," I answered quickly.

"Oh, I'm in no hurry," she said. "I'm on my way to a hospice(临终医院). I don't have any family left. The doctor says I don't have very long."

I quietly reached over and shut off the meter (计价器). For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked, the neighborhood where she had lived, and the furniture shop that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow down in front of a particular building and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing.

At dawn, she suddenly said, "I'm tired. Let's go now." We drove in silence to the address she had given.

"How much do I owe you?" she asked.

    "Nothing." I said.

"You have to make a living," she answered. "Oh, there are other passengers," I answered. She said thanks to me, but she looked so sad.

One day my grandfather gave me a gift ——a piggy bank. It had an opening through which one could put money in, but the opening was not big enough to reach in and get the money out. The only way to get at the money was to break the piggy bank open. My grandfather explained that was the whole idea:the piggy bank would help save my money so that, at the end of the year, I might have enough for that bike I dreamt about. He asked if I would put some of the money he gave me into the piggy bank. I agreed immediately and promised that I wouldn't break it open until I could afford my dream bike.

Whenever he gave me a little bit of money, he would say, "This is for spending. But you can save some and put it in the piggy bank if you want to save it up. "When he gave me larger amounts, it was clearly for saving in the piggy bank. For some time, this worked fine. I loved shaking the piggy bank and hearing the sound of the coins. As it became heavier, I grew more excited, dreaming about buying my new bike, and all the adventures I could have on it.

Whenever I wanted to take some money from the piggy bank to buy deli-cious ice-creams or beautiful pens, I would imagine riding my bike on the street, and thinking of that, my thoughts about ice-creams or pens went away. So for almost six months, I only put money into the piggy bank without tak-ing any out. I thought I wouldn't break my piggy bank for anything. But one day something unexpected happened. I saw a piece of news on the television that a serious earthquake had happened in a nearby province. As many houses were destroyed, a lot of children became homeless. Seeing their shabby clothes and crying faces, I was sleepless that night.

注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为 150左右:2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

Paragraph 1:I knew I should do something.

Catherine was the coolest kid in her class. Wherever she went, she was in the spotlight, with a bunch of kids following her and doing everything she did. Her desk mate, Landy, however, was not in the cool kids' group. Being the tallest kid in her class, she was laughed at by her classmates, who were always chanting "Landy, Landy, long as spaghetti (意大利面)". Every time Landy heard those silly chants, she could feel her face burst into flames. God knew how she wished the ground would crack and swallow her!

Catherine didn't really. like it when the kids chanted "Landy, Landy, long as spaghetti". But she neither told them to stop nor ever talked to her. She liked being popular.

One weekend, Catherine went over to her grandfather for Thanksgiving. Her grandfather lived on a farm at the opposite end of town, where he kept chickens. While helping to feed the chickens, Catherine noticed a peculiar one. Curling(蜷缩) in the corner, it looked smaller than the others and was almost half-bare!

"What's the matter with it?" She asked her grandfather, with a puzzled frown on her face. Her grandfather told her how chickens could act. "They have a pecking (啄) order," he explained, wrinkles of concern spreading

around his Forehand," Home chicken is different, the others will push it away and keep peeking it. Sometimes they peck so much that it dies."

"Oh, what a poor little thing!" Catherine let out a sigh as she scooped (捧起) the frightened chicken up in her arms, whose heure was beating fast in the bony little body.

注意:1. 续听词数应为 150 左右: 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的柜应位置作答。

Paragraph1: Suddenly, she thought of Landy, the girl being "pecked" by her classmates.

Paragraph 2: But Catherine walked directly toward Landy, regardless of what they said.
