Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse are two of the most popular cartoon characters in the world. In the short cartoons, Tom is always trying to catch Jerry, but he never makes it. Almost every cartoon ends with Tom in trouble and Jerry laughing at him. The stories are full of fun and have a long history.

William Hanna and Joseph Barbera both worked for MGM in the late 1930s. Their boss told them to make funny cartoons. Together they thought of the idea of a cat and a mouse. They thought it would be funny if the mouse was clever and always got the cat into trouble.

It was a great success that the first Tom and Jerry cartoon was shown in cinemas in 1940. Over the next 17 years, they made many Tom and Jerry cartoons. Most of them are around seven minutes long.

In total, Hanna and Barbera made 114 Tom and Jerry cartoons. The cartoons were so good that they won a number of awards(奖励). The famous cat and mouse remain popular today, as the cartoons are still shown on television around the world.

National Smile Month is the largest and longest-running oral (口腔的) health campaign (运动) in the UK. National Smile Month will be sharing positive messages and encouraging others to develop and have a healthy mouth between May 13 and June 13, 2024. 

The British are known for their bad teeth because they have too many sweet foods and drinks. It seems that most of them don't often show their feelings. They neither smile nor cry. But this is not true. The British like to smile as much as anyone else. They just don't want to show their bad teeth. 

There are three key messages in helping people develop and have a healthy mouth. They are: 

■ Brush your teeth at night and at least once a day. 

■ Cut down on how much sweet food and drink you have, and how often you have them. 

■ Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they ask you to do. 

With the help of these three messages, people can realize the importance of good teeth and be confident enough to open their mouths to smile. National Smile Month isn't just about education and stressing the importance of a healthy mouth. The key to the success of the campaign is that we have lots of fun doing it! 

A smile might be a small body language, yet it can make a great difference to our state of mind. You can support National Smile Month in so many ways. Hold events to raise awareness (意识) of oral health, or simply post something on social media. By taking part in National Smile Month, you can help to create a healthier and happier world.

We know the 2020 Olympic Games(奥林匹克运动会) were in Tokyo. Which city will be next? In 2017, the IOC (国际奥委会) gave us the answer. 

Paris will host (举办) the Olympic Games in 2024 and Los Angeles will be next in 2028. For the first time, the IOC chose two host cities at the same time. 

Both countries are happy to bring home the Games. Paris hosted two Olympics before. It will host the Games 100 years after its last Games in 1924. For the United States, Atlanta hosted the Games in 1996. It goes back to the country for the first time after that. 

The two cities already have more than 90 percent of the facilities(设施) for the Games. This will help them cut the costs. 

 Every April, there is a special day in China. It is the Qingming Festival, also called Tomb- sweeping Day. On that day, people{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (记念) their ancestors(祖先). The Qingming Festival is a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (传统) Chinese festival. It has a long history. It began over 2,000 years ago. A famous poem{#blank#}3{#/blank#}.(由) Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu describes the day, " Rain falls heavily as Qingming comes, and passers- by(行人) with low spirits go."

 Tomb- sweeping Day has been a public {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (假日) in China since 2008. On this day, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (家), bring flowers and food to their ancestors' tombs. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}（在"之后) they put food like cakes and fruits in front of the tombs, they sweep the dirt off the tombs and remember their dead family members. Why do Chinese people do this? That's because people think that {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (拜访) , bombs is to show respect to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (他们) dead family members.

Now most people like to keep pets in their houses. They think pets are their best friends. Do you know how to take care of your pet in summer? Here are some ideas for you. 

Never leave a pet alone in your car

In summer, the air in your car is too hot and it can't move quickly. If you let a pet stay in your car for long, it will lose its life because there's little oxygen (氧气) in the car. 

Don't keep cool all the time

If a pet always stays in a cool room, it'll get sick. You should make an exercise plan and walk it in the morning or evening. But remember not to take it out on a hot afternoon suddenly. 

Go to a pet hospital quickly

When your pet is ill, you should take it to a pet hospital at once. You must look after it well till it feels better.
