Everybody hates rats. But rats may soon be man's new best friends.

    What happens after an earthquake? We send in rescue (援救) dogs. Why? Because they can smell people. Dogs save lives. They help rescuers to find living people. But dogs are big and they can't get into small space. So now a new research project is using a smaller animal to save lives: the rat.

    How does it work? First, the rat is trained to smell people. When this happens, the rat's brain gives a signal. This is sent to a small radio on its back, and then the rescuers follow the radio signals. When the rat's brain activity jumps, the rescuers know that someone is alive. The rat has smelled that person.

    Although there are already robots which can do this job, rats are better. "Robots' noses don't work well when there are other smells around. Rats are good at that," says a scientist. Rats can also see in the dark. They are cheaper and quicker to train than dogs, and unlike robots, they don't need electricity.

    The "rat project" is not finished, but a scientist says, "It would be fantastic. A rat could get into space we couldn't get to and a rat would get out if it wasn't safe." Perhaps for the first time in history, people will be happy to see a rat in a building (but only after an earthquake, of course).

    In life, there will always be some people or things that deeply touch you, or even change some of your ideas.

    On my way to school, I always see some people w{#blank#}1{#/blank#} in orange color and sweeping the street. They are city cleaners. People always d{#blank#}2{#/blank#} them as beauticians of the city. However, their work is really hard!

    Last week, our school carried out a social practice activity. I f{#blank#}3{#/blank#} a sanitation (环卫) worker Aunt Hu to experience. As we walked, we w{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Aunt Hu went to clean up the rubbish when she saw it. I also c{#blank#}5{#/blank#} some leaves and waste paper into a plastic bag. After five minutes, I felt a little tired. It was very hot. How I wanted to find a cool place to have a rest! But Aunt Hu didn't mean to stop even though there was much sweat (汗) p{#blank#}6{#/blank#} over her face. Just at this time, a banana peel fell on the ground. I looked up and saw that it was t{#blank#}7{#/blank#} by a fashionable girl! I was very angry, but Aunt Hu picked it up silently and put it in the dustbin. At this moment, I was touched d{#blank#}8{#/blank#}. She left the dirt and tiredness to herself and the tidiness to us, but the girl turned a blind eye to her job!

    City cleaners are worth our high regard. Thanks to them, the public environment has become clean and c{#blank#}9{#/blank#}. The news reports how the public respects the touching news of these lovely people. We are glad to see the public's a{#blank#}10{#/blank#} to the little people.

It was in fall. A woman was sick. She stayed in the hospital by {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(she). She had no daughters or sons. Her husband died ten years ago. So nobody cared {#blank#}2{#/blank#} her. She felt very {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(alone). There was a tree outside her room. She saw the leaves fall down. Day after day, there were fewer and fewer leaves on the tree. The woman was very sad. She didn't want to eat {#blank#}4{#/blank#} drink. She became {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(bad) day by day. She got a strong {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(feel) of death. One day she said, "When the last leaf falls down, I {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(die)."

When {#blank#}8{#/blank#}old artist heard of that, he came up with a good idea. He {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(volunteer) to paint a green and yellow leaf and put it in the tree when all yellow leaves fell down on a cold night. The next morning, when the woman looked out of the window, she found the last leaf was still there. The woman was so surprised that she decided {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(live) strongly like the leaf. From then on, she little by little got better.

Once there was a duck called Rodney. He lived in a town near a big forest.

Most animals in the town thought Rodney was a clever* duck because 1 could tell the stories of many great writers and even the stars in space. Rodney himself was also proud*of being the cleverest in his town. He 2 asked others for help.

One day, he went for a walk in the forest alone. And before long, he was 3 . Just then, a bird flew by and said to him, "You're quite far from the town. Do you want me to show you the 4 ?" Rodney didn't want other animals to think that he, a clever duck, would 5 help. So he said "Oh no, I'm OK!" to the bird before hurrying off.

It was getting dark. Another bird flew past and saw him. "Hey, are you 6 the way to your town?" The bird asked. But the proud duck told him that he was just watching the stars, and then hurried away again 7 asking for help.

It was really dark then. Rodney couldn't see anything to guide him. He became afraid and sad. Rodney finally 9 he would ask for help when someone came along. He waited with hope 10 not an animal came by. The forest was dark and quiet. The clever duck spent a cold night shivering under a leaf.

"If I was really clever, I'd listen to others!" he thought.

Hangzhou，the capital city of Zhejiang Province，is thought to be {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（beautiful）city in the world. I always wanted to go there，and{#blank#}2{#/blank#} （luck），I got a chance this summer. My mum agreed{#blank#}3{#/blank#}（take） me there. 

We went to Hangzhou by plane. As we know，Hangzhou is famous{#blank#}4{#/blank#} the West Lake，{#blank#}5{#/blank#}we went to the West Lake on the first day. It was fantastic! People living there told us that the West Lake was more beautiful on{#blank#}6{#/blank#}（rain）days. But we weren't sure about that. So if you are in Hangzhou，you can enjoy the beautiful sights for{#blank#}7{#/blank#}（you）. 

As one of China's six ancient capital{#blank#}8{#/blank#}（city），Hangzhou has a history of more than 2，000 years. It is also home to silk and its silk products are well﹣known all over the world. So the next day we went to the old streets and{#blank#}9{#/blank#}（buy） different silk products for our family and friends. We really had {#blank#}10{#/blank#}good time there. I hope to visit
