In small towns, people are used to saying hello to their neighbors in stores, on the streets and in front of their homes. In today's city life, people may feel uncomfortable talking to neighbors they do not know well in line at the supermarket. But greeting your neighbors is actually good for you, especially if you say hello to six people, according to a recent survey.

 Saying hello to people increases well- being(幸福), but six is the magic number. The well- being score increases from zero to six and then there are no further increases. These results are part of the Gallup National Health and Well- Being Index which studies overall well- being and is calculated on a scale of (在……范围内)0 to 100. The survey was carried out from May 30th to June 6th, 2023 and was based on the answers from 4,556 Americans. It covered social well- being, physical well- being, community well- being and more. People who said they didn't say hello to anyone in their neighborhood scored a 51.5. People who greeted six neighbors had a score of 64.1.

 You might think that saying hello to neighbors is only about social well- being, but that actually isn't the case. In fact, regular(经常的) greetings also improve a person's physical well- being and community well-being.      ▲      You will be more likely to speak to people if you think your community is safe. Your physical well- being can improve if you are getting out and walking around your neighborhood.

" We don't require that you know the person well; just stop and talk to him," said Dan Witters, the survey's director." But the more people to whom you say hello, the greater the probability is that you' re actually going to start a conversation with them."

 While this is just a survey for now, saying hello on a regular basis is a good way to improve your own well- being.

The Last Leaf is a short story written by US writer O. Henry, one of the most famous short story writers in history. Let's find out part of the story in the following excerpt(节选). 

Sue looked out of the window. All she saw was an old yellow and green ivy(常春藤) plant. The half-dead plant had few leaves on it because of the autumn winds. 

"There are only five now, " said Joanna. "Five what, dear? What are you counting?"

At the age of 1 year and 152 days, Ace-Liam Ankrah from Ghana became the youngest male artist in the world. 

Ace-Liam became interested in painting when he was just 6 months old. Ace-Liam's mother, Eghan, is an artist. A few years ago, she{#blank#}1{#/blank#} Arts and Cocktails Studio to offer painting classes. 

Eghan said she couldn't take care {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Ace-Liam while she was painting. So to {#blank#}3{#/blank#}him busy, she thought up a way. "I put a canvas(油画布) on the floor and put paints on it. As he crawled(爬), he made all the colours cover the canvas, " she said. 

That's {#blank#}4{#/blank#}his first painting, The Crawl, was born. Eghan was {#blank#}5{#/blank#}by Ace-Liam's talent(天赋). After that, Ace-Liam continued to draw. Last year, Eghan decided to apply for(申请) the world record(纪录) for her son．However, someone told her that {#blank#}6{#/blank#}Ace-Liam wanted to break the record, he needed to exhibit and sell his paintings. So she held an exhibition for Ace-Liam in January. And she sold nine out of his ten {#blank#}7{#/blank#}. 

On May 20, Ace-Liam entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's youngest male artist. 

Ace-Liam still loves painting. There is a corner in his mother's studio just for him. He often paints on {#blank#}8{#/blank#}own there. 

"He often spends the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}day painting in the corner. He's not just playing there. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}he's growing up there, " said Eghan. 

Wonderful Park has finally reopened after nearly three months of repair! Since my sister Julia's birthday is coming, yesterday my parents took us to the park to have some fun. Julia was very excited as she had never been to Wonderful Park before.

 We arrived at the park early in the morning. While we were buying tickets at the ticket office, Julia was told that she could enjoy free admission during her birthday month. She could also get some pins and stickers for free. Julia was over the moon with her birthday presents. After buying our tickets, Julia wanted to ride the Ferris wheel. However, Mum suggested going to the King's Theatre first as a musical was about to begin.

 We were attracted by the delicious smell of popcorn while we were on the way to the King's Theatre. We bought two bags of chocolate popcorn and it tasted good. Before we entered the theatre, there were two cartoon characters standing at the entrance. They were lovable so Julia and I took some photos with them. The show began at ten forty-five. Though I am not a big fan of musicals, it was really great. All the performers sang and danced well. There was a huge round of applause when the show ended. Then, we went to the ride. It was the last stop and also the most enjoyable part of our trip.

 Here are the photos we took. The first one shows the chocolate popcorn. It was yummy! Next are the photos we took at the entrance of the King's Theatre. The cartoon characters are giving me and Julia a big hug! Here comes the photo that I like best. We took this after we rode on the Ferris wheel. Dad is putting his arm around Mum's shoulders. Julia is making a V sign with her fingers and I am making a silly face. It is a nice family photo. We all look forward to visiting the park again!

Peng Jingxuan, a Chinese student, has studied music in France for years. When she 1 playing the guzheng on the streets of France in 2018, she did not think that the traditional instrument(传统乐器) would2 her life. 

Peng began to study the guzheng when she was 7 years old. 

In 2017, she went to France to study music. She was3 to find that very few people in France knew about the guzheng. 

"I wanted to make4 people know this instrument, " Peng said. 

She began to do5 performances(表演). Peng Jingxuan played the guzheng near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. As a(n)6 music performer, she shared traditional music with French people. The more Peng played on the streets, the greater pride (自豪) she felt in7 Chinese music and culture. 

To make this traditional Chinese instrument better known to people in France, Peng 8 chose traditional guzheng pieces and some pop songs9 strong Chinese influences (影响). 

"To get more people to know about it, understand it, and love it. . . is the biggest10 of Chinese artists playing the traditional musical instrument, " she said. And she is willing to work hard on it. 

You' re at your new school. It's lunchtime, but you don't have anyone to sit with. You want to join someone at their table, but you' re not sure if they' re friendly. What do you do? One student's solution was to create an app.

Natalie Hampton from California, USA, knows what it feels like to be alone at a new school. She found it difficult to make new friends and had to search for a new table at lunch every day. If she had lunch by herself, she felt lonely. But if she asked to join someone and got refused, she felt embarrassed (尴尬). Her solution was to create a lunch-planning app to help students like her find people to have lunch with.

The app— called Sit With Us— is simple. If a student is having lunch in the afternoon, they can create an invitation. Other students can open the app and accept that invitation. They can then use the app to decide when and where to meet. This allows students to make plans online instead of face-to-face. This is the reason why it is so popular:     ▲     .

Natalie is pleased with the way people are responding to her app-especially those who suffer from bullying(欺凌). Soon after her app came out, she won an award for it. She also appeared in many news stories.

Natalie was even asked to speak at a United Nations Youth Assembly (集会). In her talk, Natalie wanted people to know that you don't have to do something big to change lives. Sometimes, a simple thing — like having a friend to enjoy lunch with— can make all the difference.
