My family lived in a big city, and we had no garden, but I often {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (go, went) to a small park near my home. There {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (are, were) a lot of trees in the park. Born into a family of sculptors(雕刻家) in 1983 in Pingyao, Shanxi, Zhang Rong showed an interest in clay figures as a child. "From the age of {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(八), I would sometimes follow my father when he went to work. At that time, I dreamed of learning his skills," said Zhang.

However, Zhang's parents didn't want him to be a sculptor. They thought that he {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(应该) pay attention to his studies and go to university. Zhang did as they advised.

Zhang {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(毕业) from university in 2005 and became a programmer. But he got bored with his work and still dreamed of {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(创造) clay figures. He began to make clay figures in his spare time to overcome the boredom of his work. He learned the skills he needed in different ways by {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(他自己). He read books as well as learned from {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(当地) artists. He also practiced a lot and tried to develop his own style.

{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(通过) his hard work, Zhang improved his skills over time and won a place among all the sculptors. In 2012, he gave up his job and started his own {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(事业). His clay figures caught the eye of tourists from home and {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(国外). Zhang also made clay figures for a few special customers free of charge, such as left-behind seniors and soldiers.

Thanks to Zhang's efforts, Pingyao clay figure sculpting was listed as a city-level cultural treasure in 2015, and he was given the title of city-level inheritor(继承人 ). "{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(无论何时) I complete a clay piece, I hope to tell more people about the art. It will be my lifelong dream," Zhang said.

Talking about Hunan Province, what comes to your mind first? Unquestionably, the answer goes to Hunan dishes, which are called as Xiang dishes. 

Hunan dishes, with a history of more than two thousand years, are famous for its spicy taste. 4. It is one of China's eight schools of dishes. 

Chili peppers (辣椒) are the most important and popular part in Hunan dishes. They were introduced from South America in the late 1690s. Since then, they have won the hearts of Hunan people. 

While Sichuan dishes are famous for its classic " numbing-hot (麻辣)" taste, Hunan dishes are known for being " hot" . Hunan people invented many ways to cook chili peppers. For example, they cut fresh chili peppers into small pieces and mix them with salt, they use these salted chilli to steam (蒸) fish heads. Then it has become a classical dish around the world. 

Some say Hunan people love chili because they can help people get used to the damp (潮湿的) weather. The chili can drive away the dampness in one's body. 

5. 现在辣椒已经成为湖南文化的一部分。It is believed that the chili and the personality (个性) of Hunan people have something in common. Usually described as direct, brave and hard-working, Hunan people are famous for their " hot personalities" . It is clear that they would fall in love with chili.

"Jim! "I said. "It's me, Huck! "

"Huck! Is it really you? "Jim said, with a big smile. 

"Yes, Jim, and I'm really happy to see you. But what are you doing here? "

"Well, alright then. The other day a businessman from New Orleans came to the house. I knew that Miss Watson wanted to sell me. I was scared. Then I ran away and hid on the island. "

We sat there chatting for a long time. I liked talking to Jim because he knew a lot of things. He understood signs. He knew which ones meant good luck and which ones meant bad luck. He knew which signs meant bad weather, too. When he saw some birds flying low in the sky he said, "It's going to rain later, Huck. We must find a dry place to make a camp. "

The next day we climbed to the top of a big hill in the middle of the island and found a cave in the rock.
