Winston Churchill once said, "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." These are words that millions （百万） of volunteers around the world could certainly agree with.

People who volunteer spend their time offering help to others and don't ask for pay. For example, animal lovers may volunteer at an animal centre to help improve the treatment （治疗） of animals.

Volunteering allows volunteers to meet new people, try out new skills and ex-plore career choices（职业选择）. For young adults, valuable （有价值的） lessons may also be learned through volunteering.

Take Andrew Makhoul, a student at the University of Pennsylvania, as an exam-ple. Andrew didn't spend his last spring break relaxing. Instead, the 19-year-old boy decided to do something for people who were less lucky than himself. He travelled to an orphanage（孤儿院） in Guatemala. It is in one of the poorest parts of the area. And it depends on volunteers to stay open.

Andrew doesn't speak much Spanish, but he found communication wasn't a problem. "You communicated with love," according to an article on his university's website. And what he gave out, he got back. "You could see love when you looked in their eyes." Andrew's first time as a volunteer only lasted a week , but by the end of that week, he knew he'd be back soon because he saw love and hope.

Sherry Anderson once wrote, "Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless ( 无价值的） , but because they're priceless." And this is perhaps why volunteers all around the world keep doing what they do-their work is "priceless".

Reading books is a good hobby for all kinds of reasons. 

First, reading books is f{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. You can always keep yourself happy if you like reading. This is especially useful when the weather is bad. It is a relaxing hobby too. You can really become lost in a book. 

Next, you can read a book anywhere: in a car, in a waiting-room, on a plane, in bed — even in the bath. All you need is a book! Reading is a convenient hobby as it is e{#blank#}2{#/blank#} to stop and then start again. 

Another good reason for reading books is that it is useful. If you read as a hobby you will get better and better at it. This m{#blank#}3{#/blank#} that you will read faster and will become better at understanding what you read. As your reading improves, you will probably find your schoolwork becomes much easier. Many school subjects depend on good reading and, as you read, you learn more and more. 

Some people say that reading is out of date(过时). This is not true. You have to be able to read to use a computer and, the better you read, the better your computer skills will be. Reading is n{#blank#}4{#/blank#} out of date!

Good readers are most likely to be good writers, too. They are usually good at spelling as well, and have more things to write about. Reading books is a wonderful hobby, one of the best. W{#blank#}5{#/blank#} other hobbies could be more useful, or more enjoyable？

Crowdsourcing is the process of using many people to perform services. Crowdsourcing explains the saying "many hands make light work" in a new way. At the same time, crowdsourcing follows the old saying that "two heads are better than one". When many people work together on a project, they not only work faster, but they also work better. 

There is a community learning website called Memrise, which offers more than 6, 000 free educational courses in all types of subjects. The courses, which are created by volunteers, include photos, videos, games and quizzes to help people learn quickly and have fun at the same time. 

London's Tate Museum is another good example of crowdsourcing. In 2010, the museum started the Tate Movie Projectwebsite, where children learned how animated（动画的） films are made. The children also wrote stories, drew their own characters and sent them to the website. After that, professional animators worked with the children to compete a film called The ltch oftheGolden Nit. The film was shown on BBC television. 

In fact, as students, crowdsourcing can also be a way for you to deal with problems. Suppose your teacher asks you to create a magic story. And you have written a story, but you're not sure whether it's fun or not. What can you do? Just let others around you, your classmates, your parents or someone else, read it and offer their ideas. Then you will collect some wonderful ideas!

Dreams are like short films. They are usually in color. Some dreams are like old films. They come to us over and over again. That may be because the dreamer is worrying about something. Dreaming may be a way of trying to find an answer.

Some people get new ideas about their work from dreams. They may think about their work all day. These ideas can carry over into dreams. Sometimes we wake up with a good feeling from a nice dream. But often we can't remember the dream. Dreams can go away quickly from memory.

But too much dreaming can be harmful. The more we sleep, the longer we dream. The mind is working hard when we dream. That is why we may have a long sleep and still wake up exhausted. We may feel sleepy the whole day.

Introduce yourself to people first. Start by offering your name first. A basic introduction is a great way to put yourself out there. You might also talk about something that you are good at. For example, if you say you are good at playing the piano, someone may want to learn more about the piano.

Give a hand to a classmate in need. Helping a classmate is a good way to make friends. You might help someone pick up the notebooks they dropped or let someone borrow a pencil. Being kind is a great way to make friends with others, such as offering part of your lunch to someone who forgot theirs or offering to read textbooks together with someone who forgot to bring theirs.

Keep your eye out for classmates with same interests. Look at your classmates' interests and activities. Do you see someone reading your favorite book or wearing a T-shirt of your favorite color? These common interests can help you find people you' re more likely to get along with.
