One midnight, a little girl woke up to pass water. She by herself got up and down her bed, walked to the bedroom door and opened it. She looked outside and walked back, for it was so dark in the hall that she feared.
Her mother said, “Don't be afraid, honey. Take courage!”
“What's courage?” she asked, running to her mother's bed.
“Courage is the brave breath,” her mother answered.
“Mum, do you have courage?”
“Certainly.”
The girl held out her little hands, saying, “Mum, blow some of your breath of courage to me.”
After her mother blew out two mouthfuls of breath into her little cold hands, the little girl clenched her fists(握拳) nervously, afraid that the “breath of courage” would run away. Then with her fists clenched, she walked out of the bedroom towards the bathroom with nothing to fear.
Her mother said to herself, “It will be nice if someone can blow some kind of ‘breath' to me. Then I can hold it in my hands too when I feel terrified or lost.”
In fact, mostly, what we are terrified of is nothing but the fear in our mind. Who we should defeat(战胜) is nobody but ourselves.

    Mary is an English girl. She's six years old(岁). Her mother takes her to school in the morning and brings her home in the afternoon. She likes her nice school. She likes her teachers, too.

    One day, she says (说) to her mother, "Mum, we have a new girl in our class today, Her name is Kim. She's six years old, too. She's very nice, but she isn't English. She is German(德国人)".

    "Does she speak (说) English"?

    "No, but she laughs(笑) in English", Mary says happily(高兴地).

    The New Year was coming. Grace and Alice were going shopping with their mother. The mother wanted to{#blank#}1{#/blank#} them to a Farmers' Fair (集市),but Grace wanted to go to the supermarket. The mother explained that they{#blank#}2{#/blank#} buy fresh fruit and vegetables there, and could support (支持) local farmers as well. Grace agreed.

Alice found a stall (货摊) with red strawberries ,and she{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, "Where did you get so many good strawberries?" The woman answered, "I grow them on my farm. You can come to visit my farm{#blank#}6{#/blank#} you like." "That will be great!" said Alice. At last, Alice asked her mother to buy{#blank#}7{#/blank#} strawberries. They also bought something else.

    At the dinner, the father asked each person to say something{#blank#}8{#/blank#} this day. Alice said, "I want to thank not only the strawberries, but also the{#blank#}9{#/blank#} They needed to work so {#blank#}10{#/blank#}to grow strawberries." Grace then said, "We should thank the food and the people who bring it to us every day." Alice and Grace's parents smiled.

I start my first day of school at junior high today! I can't believe this day has finally arrived.

What I am thinking about m{#blank#}1{#/blank#}me nervous（紧张的）. After all, I was one of the leaders at my old school. The younger students all looked u{#blank#}2{#/blank#}to us sixth graders. Now, I am going to be a new kid all over again and I am going to have to make new friends.

I am not alone. All of us going into the junior high are in the same b{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. In fact, I am not w{#blank#}4{#/blank#} about being a new junior high school student. I am excited about it! I am excited about all the different s{#blank#}5{#/blank#}I get to study.

I am so excited now! Mum, Dud, Grandma, and Grandpa are all excited for me as well. I think I am going to enjoy m{#blank#}10{#/blank#}at the junior high school after all. I am looking forward to a great year and an exciting new world!

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, do you eat mooncakes? Do you know that the history of mooncakes is related to two wars?

In the Tang Dynasty, there was an emperor (皇帝) named Li Shimin. Once, his army won a war and returned {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the Mid-Autumn Day. While Li was celebrating with his army, a Tibetan trader (吐蕃商人) gave him some round{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (cake) as a gift. Li was happy and{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (send) these cakes to his soldiers. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} that, these round cakes became popular. Many people ate {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(they) during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Later, the cakes were named as "mooncakes". 

Zhu Yuanzhang was the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty. He ended the Yuan Dynasty through an uprising (起义). When he organized the uprising, it was difficult to send messages {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(secret). One of his friends came up with{#blank#}7{#/blank#}idea. He gave mooncakes with a note hidden inside of them to other people. The note read, "Uprising on the fifteenth night of the {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(eight) lunar (农历的) month." After the {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (success) uprising, Zhu gave mooncakes as gifts to his people. Since then, it {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (be) a custom to eat mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
