One day a little mouse looked everywhere for water to drink. She climbed up onto a table, and she saw a bottle on it. She looked inside the bottle. "Aha, there is some milk in it. That's great. "She went into it and began to drink.

After a moment she drank enough. Her stomach(肚子) was too big and she couldn't come out of the bottle. She cried for help. Just then a cat came up to the table. When the cat heard the cry, he jumped onto the table so happily, and said, "You'll be my nice lunch!" The little mouse was very clever and she thought for a moment and said," Brother Cat, you mustn't roll(滚动) the bottle. "Why?" asked the cat. "I would get dizzy(头晕目眩的)," said the mouse. The cat thought it would help catch the mouse soon. So he began to roll the bottle. Suddenly the bottle fell down onto the floor and it was in piece. The little mouse ran away as fast as she could. When the cat ran after her, the mouse already went into her home.

In a heartwarming event(事件) that shows the power of human connection, a woman's act of kindness saved the life of a 1 man.

During a break between classes, Casey Fischer stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a coffee. It was there that she saw a man 2 change by the roadside. Later, she watched him walk into Dunkin, counting his change to see what he could buy.

Casey went over to talk to him and learned that he had only about $1 in change. Touched by his 3 situation, she bought him a 4 and a cake and invited him to sit with her. He told her that he lost his family in an accident and how people are usually 5 to him because he's homeless. They talked for about a(n) 6 , drinking their coffees.

After realizing that Casey needed to go back to class, the man, named Chris, asked her to wait so he could 7 things for her. Handing Casey a note with an apology(道歉) for his 8 handwriting, he smiled and left.

Upon opening the note, Casey read his sincere message: "I wanted to end my life today, but because of you, I now have 9 . Thank you, beautiful person."

Casey's simple actions of buying food and chatting with Chris gave him what he 10 most. It shows that we can all do something nice for others. Let's be encouraged by Casey and be kind to those around us.

 根据短文内容和所给中文提示填空(每空限填一词)。

When we were young, people always liked to question us about what kind of job we wanted to have. And some school students said they wanted to be a scientist, a computer programmer, or a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(飞行员).

To be honest, I didn't know what I wanted to be when I was a middle school student. My mother wanted me to be a pianist, but I didn't take it {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(严肃地) because I couldn't {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(忍受)practicing it every day. My father wanted me to be an engineer like him, but I thought it was {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(毫无意义的).

Through some years, I went to college to go on my {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(教育). I kept everything in all my {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (日记). At the start of the new term, I got a part-time job at the school radio station. I {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(期待) to discuss the school life with other students and make many friends there.

Without this working experience, I could never know what I really wanted.

Four years later, I got a full-time job at our local radio station. I hoped that I could {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(改善)other people's life. So I made a {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(承诺) to myself that I would work hard on it and they just did what I advised. My program was quite {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(成功的) and I had lots of fans. I enjoy my job and my life now.

 阅读理解

"It's hard to say this, but I' ll have to leave school in a few weeks' time," said Mr Thomas, standing at the front of the classroom.

It was early on Monday morning and Mr Thomas' students were shocked(震惊的) at the news.All of them loved Mr Thomas very much and they never thought that he might leave.However, Mr Thomas reached the age when he was going to retire.After hearing the news, the class kept gloomy for the next few days until the class monitor gave them a small scolding(训斥).

"We should not be like this," she said."Instead(反而), we should study hard to thank Mr Thomas for being so good to us." The class agreed, and they thought of an idea of having a farewell(送别的) party for Mr Thomas to surprise him.

On Mr Thomas' last day at school, everybody brought a different kind of delicious finger food to class and put it in the middle of the classroom.They covered the blackboard with farewell messages.When Mr Thomas showed up, all the students said "Goodbye, dear teacher!" together and promised Mr Thomas that they would do their best in schoolwork in the future.

Mr Thomas was really surprised.And he was really touched.The class, in turn, was glad that they did the right thing.After all, it was the simplest way to show thanks to their favourite teacher.
