广西北部湾经济区2021年初中英语学业水平考试模拟卷(二)

阅读理解

When I was little, I lived a happy life. My parents took me to play in many places, such as parks, mountains and museums. And at school my teachers were kind and friendly. They left me little homework. We used to play games and watch cartoons in class.

However, my bad dreams began when I got to Grade Four. The teachers were stricter and the subjects were more difficult. My grades were dropping, which made my parents very worried about me. They compelled me to study all the day. I was so tired that I thought the school was not so fun. Then in Grade Five, I kept having the problem, failing grades. I almost lost my confidence in learning.

Grade Six was the last year when I was in primary school. On April 21 that year, our school had a sports meeting. I tried my best to run quickly. Luckily, I won the races for 100 m and 200 m. It was on the winner's platform(站台)that I realized I was the fastest runner in the school. From then on, I studied harder and more carefully. I wanted to prove(证明) that I was also powerful in study. Then my grades became better and better.

Sometimes, when you worry that you may fail, you end up failing. But when you believe in yourself and keep working hard, you'll win. So without pain, suffering, regrets or failures, you will never become the greatest.

Now more than one billion people in China speak putonghua, or Mandarin, as their first language. At the same time, dongbeihua, or northeast dialect (方言), has become more popular. The dialect makes even the most serious daily conversations sound fun.

Ms Ann, a Chinese language teacher, opened a class to teach middle school students dongbeihua in Heilongjiang Province. "I just hope to help the students learn more about the culture of their home town," said Ms Ann.

"It is important to inherit (继承) the northeast dialect in a new form,"she said. "For most students, they are speaking Mandarin or even English to adapt(适应) to society. They don't pay more attention to the dialect or the culture behind it. That's a pity. They need to pass it on."

Now there are over thirty students in her class. At first, some students believed it would not be difficult for the northeasterners to speak dongbeihua well. However, with the deepening of the class, the students could only speak some easy words and knew little about the meaning behind them. To increase students' interest, Ms Ann has been trying different ways. For example, she chose video clips from interesting cartoons for her students to dub (配音) them into dongbeihua.

Both Mandarin and dialect are the carriers (载体) of Chinese language and culture. Learning the dialect is learning our local culture and history.

根据括号内所给汉语意思写出单词的正确形式。每空限填一词

Curt von Badinski is an engineer of a company in San Francisco. He is a {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(西方人), and his home is in Los Angeles,which is 770 miles away from his workplace, so he has to take a plane to work and back. And he tries his {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(最好) to avoid being late.

Every workday morning, Badinski gets up at 5 am for the 15-minute drive to the airport.After parking his car, he goes to take the plane {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(径直地;直接地). After all, the plane won't wait for him to {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(赶上)up. After a 90-minute flight, he {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(降落到地面) at Oakland Airport and drives to his company. The {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(全部的;整个的)trip takes him about 3 hours.

Badinski can fly freely at any time to and from San Francisco, thanks to his payment on the airline, 2,300 dollars monthly.

Flying to work every day is not {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(容易的) for Badinski because he can only sleep five hours every night. But he believes {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (没有什么) could be more important for him than his family. He had thought about several ways to solve the problem, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(包括;包含) moving his family to San Francisco, but none of them worked.

"The six-hour round trip shows that I have the {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(能力) to have all the things I want," he explains. "I am always excited to start a new day. And I hope in the future my life and my work can be balanced."

Last year in early summer, I was walking up the hill to my house when I saw two birds, each about 60 centimeters tall, standing on the road. They didn't seem to 1  me until I was right in front of them and then they at once moved 2 into the trees.

I was quite excited by the idea of two 3 making a nest(鸟巢) in my front yard, although I didn't really expect them to 4 wild birds don't usually nest so close.

A few weeks later, the birds 5 again. I found them crouching (蹲伏) beside a tree. As I moved nearer to them, I 6 that they would run away like they did last time. But instead they stuck out their heads and made a threatening (威胁的) croaking sound. It seemed to warn me not to go any 7 .

I didn't know why they were croaking at me until a short time later I made an amazing 8 : they had two small baby birds.

As I moved quietly towards the birds, 9 not to make any sudden movements, they started their croaking again. They straightened their necks forward so they seemed 10 and more threatening. The mother looked at the babies, and 11 them well in her feather (羽毛).

I was watching them 12 respect when I suddenly tripped and fell to the ground. The birds took this as a threat and the father raced towards me, 13 his wings to protect the mother and the chicks while making himself appear larger.

I was 14 to have surprised them and left quickly. I was amazed by their fearless actions. Their parental natural ability kicked in and made them so brave. It is hard not to 15 nature.
