Boys and girls, this summer vacation is the time for you to take your mind off homework and prepare for the future. The following is some advice on how   {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(make) your vacation meaningful and colourful.

Take regular exercise. You  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(work) most of the time already. So you need to join in outdoor 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (activity), which can bring your whole body into action. You can keep  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(health) by doing different kinds of exercise, such as playing basketball, jogging and mountain climbing.

Learn some basic life skills. One day, you will live by  {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(you). You can't depend on your family any longer.  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}you should learn to cook, wash and other practical skills.

Go for a journey. Travel to places of interest. In this way, you'll understand cultures that are different 

{#blank#}7{#/blank#}those of your home town. Beautiful sights can also make you  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(total) relaxed.

Enjoy family time. Don't always sit in front of  {#blank#}9{#/blank#}computer. It's great fun for family members to sit around the table, discussing sports, clothes or other common topics.

Let me tell you a story. One day, when Bill {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(walk)home from school,he heard a noise coming from the bushes. He went over to see {#blank#}2{#/blank#}it was. Behind a bush, he found a black dog. Bill went back home as fast as he could with the dog and {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(show) her to his parents. Bill's dad found that the dog had {#blank#}4{#/blank#}broken(断了的) leg, so they brought the dog to a doctor for animals {#blank#}5{#/blank#} car. On the way, Bill's parents decided that Bill could keep the dog if they couldn't find the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (own).

When they arrived, the doctor checked the dog. He told Bill that she was going to have babies! Bill was very {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(surprise). The next day, Bill put some signs like "FOUND A BLACK DOG" around his neighborhood. He also wrote his family's phone number on the signs.

Two days later, Bill got a call {#blank#}8{#/blank#}the owner of the dog. The owner thanked Bill. When he came to pick up his dog, he said Bill could have one of the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(baby). Bill was very happy. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(final), Bill got a baby dog from the owner. He named him Rosco and liked him very much.

Babies don't learn to talk just from hearing sounds. They are lip (嘴唇) readers too. It happens during the period when a baby's babbling (咿呀声) slowly changes from unclear voices into that first "mama" or "dada". The babies have to find out how to shape their lips to make the sounds they are hearing, according to developmental psychologist David Lewkowicz of Florida Atlantic University, who led the study.

Clearly it doesn't take them too long to understand the movements that match basic sounds. By their first birthdays, babies start changing back to look you in the eye again. It offers more clues that quality face-time with babies is very important for speech development more than, say, turning on the latest baby DVD. 

But Lewkowicz went a step further. He and his student Amy Hansen Tift tested nearly 180 babies, groups of them at ages 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 months. How? They showed videos of a woman speaking in English or French to babies of English speakers. They found that when the speaker used English, the 4-month-old babies gazed (凝视) mostly into her eyes. The 6-month-old babies spent equal amounts (数量) of time looking at the eyes and the mouth. The 8-month-old babies and 10-month-old babies studied mostly the mouth. At 12 months, attention started changing back toward the speaker's eyes.

But what happened when these babies are used to English heard French? The 12-month-old babies studied the mouth longer, just like younger babies. They needed the extra information to understand the new sounds. That fits with research into bilingualism (双语) that shows babies' brains adjust (调整) themselves to tell the differences between the sounds of their first language over other languages in the first year of life.

The continued lip reading shows the l-year-old babies clearly still are fit for learning. Babies are so hard to study, says Duke University cognitive scientist Greg Appelbaum, who found the research so fantastic that he wants to know more.

Family is the most important to all of us. But many of us don 't understand this. We have problems with our family members. How can we get on well with our family members? Here are three tips. 

First, spend more time with them. Don 't spend too much time playing computer games. You can ask one of your family members to play with you—your dad, mom, grandpa or grandma. If they are busy, sometimes you can even play with your aunt, uncle or their daughters and sons. 

Second, share your feelings and ask for help. You want your family members to help you when you 're unhappy, but they may not know that. Tell them what has happened and you 'll be glad after that. 

At last, do your best at what you do. When you do your best, you make your family happy. Why? Because it lets them know you 're good and they have a great kid.
