Alexis and Zoe were sitting at the kitchen table doing their homework. They had a hard time focusing on their homework because the radio station was playing music from their favourite band, the Shape Shifters.

"I can't believe the Shifters are going to be playing here and we can't go!" Alexis said.

"I know," Zoe replied. "Tickets are sold out in five minutes and even if we can get some, they are so expensive!"

"It's totally unfair," said Alexis. "They should give the tickets to their biggest fans first!"

"You mean us, right?" Zoe said.

"Obviously," said Alexis. "Everyone knows we're their number one fans."

Zoe turned the radio up a bit louder. Their fevourite song was on, and the girls had an impromptu (即兴的) dance party right there in the kitchen. As it ended, they sat on their chairs again. The radio host started talking about the concert.

"I have exciting news to share with all of you. We will give away two tickets to Saturday's sold-out show and will look for the third caller who can correctly answer this question: who is the oldest member of the Shape Shifters?" the host said.

Alexis and Zoe looked at each other. They couldn't believe how easy the question was.

"It's Georgie!" said Alexis.

"No, it's Natasha," answered Zoe.

"Everyone knows Georgie is 29. He's much older than the rest of the band," said Alexis.

"I know he's the oldest person, but the question is who's the oldest member of the band. Natasha started the band when she was just 15. The others joined the group after her," Zoe explained.

Alexis thought for a while and later agreed with Zoe. And they decided to call the radio station to answer that question. They stood together and held their breath.

"Hello, girls, you are lucky caller Number 3!" The girls screamed excitedly. "Nobody seems to know the answer to our question. Do you?" the host continued. Zoe said, "We know the answer!" "I hope so. If you get it right, you'll have a chance to Saturday's sold-out show!"

Paragraph 1

"Okay, I am ready to answer that question," Zoe said breathlessly.

Paragraph 2

"Congratulations, girls! You've won two tickets to this concert!" the host shouted.

There was a boss who made a contract with his workers: he will pay their salary each week, but not in cash. Instead, the workers would choose some goods in a shop, which equal the value of their salary. Then he will pay the cash to the owner of the shop.

But one day, one of the workers complained to his boss, “The shop owner said 'no cash, no goods'. And he requested us to pay in cash.” For that reason, the worker asked the boss to pay him in cash, too. The boss agreed. After a while, the shop owner came to the boss, asking him to pay for his workers.

The boss was confused and looked into the issue, and finally found out that the worker told a lie. However, he paid the shop owner as usual, because he must keep his promise, even he was cheated and had to pay more money.

Good merchants won't scrap(废除)their contracts. They won't sign contracts easily and usually chaffer(论价)for their benefits if they have to sign them. But after that, they will definitely follow them whatever the price.

The next week was a little calmer, But by the third week my two best friends had left for summer camp and my activities Wound down into boredom, Getting up later catch morning, I was spending more and more time with my cellphone and in front of the TV, That is when Mom reacted, declaring my phone and the TV off limits between 6:00 in the morning and 6:00 at night, It was shocking just to hear her say it.

In that first hour I felt I'd lost my senses of sight and hearing; The silence was numbing. I circled the house, going from room to room looking for something to do, asking myself what I can do? What can I do? What can I do? When I encountered Mom in the kitchen, I asked her, too, "What can I do?"

"That's up to you," she said without looking in my direction. Through the day I posed my question to her several more times, getting much the same result. Then late in the afternoon, while she was working at her computer, I dared to ask again. Instantly she swung around to look at me, and I could see that my question had a definite effect on her expression. She looked as though she had been shocked. Her jaws clenched, like she was holding her words between her teeth as they struggled to get out. She looked me straight in the eye, then smiled and said, "Well, are you up for a challenge?"

    "Sure what?"

"Your challenge is to follow the same ant for ten minutes,"

"What is so tough about that?"

She smiled again. "You might be surprised."

One winter Sunday, my little sister, Colleen, and I built the greatest snowman ever. We gave him a carrot nose, beautiful hat, cozy scarf and gloves. He was a masterpiece(杰作).

The next morning when looking outside, we smiled lovingly at him over our meal. We gave him a high five as we passed by on our way to school. A lot of kids went past our house, so he was the hot topic at our school that morning. It was our pride!

The day dragged on until finally we could rush home. But as our yard came into sight, we saw something wrong. The snowman was gone!We only found a broken stick here, a torn glove there and balls of snow everywhere. Worst of all, the snowman's once-proud carrot nose lay limp(无力的)and half-eaten.

What had happened? We were both astonished and angry. But then, we were only kids, who wouldn't have anything take away our happiness. Actually we knew only one thing: Our snowman would rise again. And so we rebuilt him.

The next day we came home to find another mess on the front lawn(草坪). For the rest of the week, the destruction was repeated daily. Each afternoon we'd return to find our snowman had fallen apart, and then we built again.

By Saturday morning, we had a plan. We borrowed a really big bucket (水桶)from Mom, filled it with water and left it outside. The next morning. it was frozen solid. We packed snow all around the ice block as the base (底座)of the snowman. Then we built the other parts of it once again The trap was set, and we wailed for the snowman bullies(破坏者) to come

Every year on my birthday, from the time I turned 12, a white gardenia was delivered to my house in Bethesda, Maryland. No card or note came with it. Calls to the florist were always in vain一it was a cash purchase. After a while I stopped trying to discover the sender's identity and was just delighted in the beauty and fragrance of that magical, perfect white flower placed in soft pink tissue paper.

However, I never stopped imagining who the anonymous giver might be. My mother contributed to these imaginings. And at that time, she'd ask me if there was someone for whom I had done a special kindness showing appreciation. As a teenager, I had more fun imagining that it might be a boy I fell in love or one who had noticed me even though I didn't know him.

When I was 17, a boy broke my heart. The night he called for the last time, I cried myself to sleep. When I awoke in the morning, there was a line of words on my mirror in red lipstick. I thought about that quotation from Emerson for a long time, and until my heart healed and went to get the glass cleaned, my mother knew everything was all right again. One month before my high school graduation, my father died of a heart attack. My feelings ranged from grief to abandonment, fear and overwhelming anger; my dad was missing some of the most important events in my life. I became completely uninterested in my coming graduation, the play and the prom. But my mother, in the midst of her own grief, would not hear of my skipping any of those things.

The day before my father died, my mother and I had gone shopping for a prom dress. We'd found a spectacular, and impressive one, with yards and yards of dotted Swiss in red, white and blue.

 第二节阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

At Piedmont School, everyone wanted to be on the soccer team. Laura had dreamed of earning glory for the Falcons ever since she had witnessed her older brother scoring the winning goal. On the day she joined the team, she felt like she could fly.

Unfortunately, her joy did not last long. She spent most of the matches on the bench. Walking to the car after the last game, Laura's mother asked if she was feeling fine. Laura kept quiet and tried to smile at her mother. Having spent yet another game as a reserve, Laura had not even broken a sweat. Laura also joked that she would have baked in the hot sun if she had played. Her mother assured her that she would have another chance to play. She also cheered Laura on. Laura could only shake her head as she climbed into the seat, back hunched and face down.

A few days later, Laura's mother found she sprawled on the couch, watching music videos on her phone, so she tried asking Laura to watch soccer videos instead. Laura looked at her mother blankly, rolling her eyes. "They won't help me and I can't get better by myself," Laura said.

Sighing, her mother sank down on the couch. "Laura, for every lock, there is a key. We just have to find it. What if I film you practicing to help you find ways to improve?"

"But the season's over, Mum. No more practice, remember?" Laura said. Her mother looked at her resolutely and insisted that the best players keep practicing even when the season is over. Laura protested, "But to practice plays, I would need at least one other person to join me! It is difficult to do that alone."

Laura's mother patted her and said, "We'll find that key too, but we have to start somewhere." While Laura's mother was searching her wallet for her gold key, she smiled gently at Laura. She gave Laura an assuring no d before passing her the key. "This key is a reminder for you to be strong and not give up. Let's build something tomorrow." Laura's mother said.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The next day, Laura and her mother built a goal and made a training plan.

Then came the next season. On the field, one of the best players got hurt suddenly.

 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Billy, a fourth-grade student at a primary school in Florida, was bullied for his DIY hand-drawn logo of the University of Tennessee(the UT), but this made students of the UT act in support and the UT even turned his drawing into an official T-shirt.

It all started at "College Colors Day" on August 30. On that day, the primary school students were invited to wear their favorite university's football team's colors. Billy, wore an orange T-shirt representing his favorite university, the UT. He took it one step further to draw his own UT logo with pen and paper and put it to his T-shirt. Billy excitedly showed his T-shirt to Laura, a fourth-grade teacher at the school. She was greatly impressed and praised him for his wonderful idea.

But after lunch, Billy came back to Laura's office, crying. Billy was upset and hurt because some girls at the lunch table had made fun of the hand-drawn logo on his T-shirt. Laura knew sometimes kids could say really cruel words. She knew although the logo was not well-drawn and of course not the most beautiful, Billy had tried his best to use the resources he had available to him to take part in College Colors Day in his own way.

In an effort to cheer him up, Laura wrote in a post on Facebook, a popular social media website, on Wednesday that one of her students was "SO EXCITED" to show her his orange T-shirt pinned with a hand-drawn "UT" logo, but was made fun of. Laura wrote that she was planning to buy him an official UT T-shirt to make it a little extra special for Billy and ended the post by asking if any of her Facebook friends had any connections to the UT. What happened next made her shocked.

注意:1)续写词数应为150左右;2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Her post spread rapidly on Facebook.

When receiving and opening the surprise box, Billy couldn't believe his eyes.
