When I was in school, I volunteered to work in a hospital for some time.

On one visit, I carefully entered a dark room to find an elderly man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (lie) in bed. I firstly thought he was sleeping. When I moved {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (close), however, I realized he was very much awake. He wanted to communicate something; but I couldn't make sense of what he {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (say). 0He seemed quite weak, and I couldn't tell if he was in pain, or just frightened. I knew nothing about him, and I felt totally helpless. He clearly didn't want me {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (leave) him, but I felt so lost and uncomfortable that I had to leave the room after only a couple of {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (minute).

The next time I was at {#blank#}6{#/blank#} hospital and saw him again, I was certain he didn't remember me. But he {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (immediate) said, "I remember you. , You gave me hope in my darkest hour that evening!" I was so {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(amaze) that I didn't know how to answer.

In the short moment of my staying there, I did nothing at all. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} surprisingly he found in me something he needed, just because I was there.

I have thought about this thing often over the past years. {#blank#}10{#/blank#} makes me want to offer whatever kindness I can to others, and I try to make it out and appreciate (赞赏) it.

Tom was an eight-year-old boy. He came to a new town with his parents. His family was very rich(富有的). They lived in a big, beautiful house with a big garden. There was a driver, a cook, a gardener and a lot of servants(佣人).

Tom was going to a new school. On the first day, his mother said to him, "Tom, be modest(谦虚的) at school. Don't say we are rich. "Tom said, "All right, Mum. "Then he went to his new school.

He met his new teachers and classmates. The teacher said, "Good morning, boys and girls! This is Tom, your new classmate. Now let him introduce himself to you. "

Tom stood up and said, "My name is Tom. My family is poor. My father is poor. The gardener is very poor. The cook is poor. And all the other servants are very poor too. So I am a poor boy……"

Sijo Zachariah comes from India and he works in Dubai. Last year, Zachariah returned to India for a wedding ( 婚礼). However, he got stuck ( 困住) there because of COVID-19.

In the end, the land didn't just help the father and son. It helped feed people in 20 homes nearby. We also taught our neighbors how to plant. food," Zachariah said. Soon every home was planting food. The hot, wet weather made growing easy.

Zachariah once studied and worked in Wales. One thing he really liked there was the food. It tasted better than food at home. He found the reason the food there was fresh and local. So 'he only planted food that was from his hometown. He also recorded videos to teach others.

Now Zachariah is planning to change his job. He will stop fixing (修理) planes for living. He will plant food. "It' s a big change for me. But this is what makes me happy—helping others and being in nature," he said. 

We arrived at our new house in the city. I took my dog Max with me. Grandpa offered to keep Max on his farm, but I refused. Although I would visit Grandpa every weekend, I couldn't give up Max for five days a week! Dad and Mom started cleaning the new house right away, and I took a chain (链条), tied it to Max's collar (颈圈) and walked him to the yard. I felt sorry as he looked at me with sad eyes. He wanted to run freely.

At last Friday came, and we packed to go to the farm. "Let's walk Max to the car," Mom said, tying the chain to his collar.

As soon as Mom opened the door, Max ran away. Mom and I jumped into the car and caught up to him, who was running beside the road with his tongue sticking out. Then he rushed into the road. A coming car came to a sudden stop. Mom shouted "Sorry" to the driver. We ran after Max all the way to the park before he was ready to get in the car.

Finally, we got back to Grandpa's farm. Returning to this old place, Max seemed to be back to his happy days. He ran across the field, leaving the vegetables in a mess. He barked at the chickens and scared them to fly in every direction and ran after the birds. "He loves the life on the farm, doesn't he?" laughed Grandpa. I pretended (假装) not to hear it.

When we got ready to leave on Sunday, Max's eyes no longer shone. As we walked him to our car, he tried to run away. This time, I held the chain tightly (紧紧地). However, my heart tightened at his sad sounds-he was begging! ____▲____. As I watched Max run to the farm, I couldn't help crying. Mom said, "Dear, this is what love is all about."

Resting my head on Helen's shoulder,I put my arms round her waist.She drew me to her,and we rested in silence.

We had not sat long before another person came in.

Some heavy clouds,swept from the sky by a rising wind,had left the moon bright;and her light,coming in through a window near,shone full both on us and on the coming person,Miss Temple

"I came on purpose to find you.Jane Eyre,"said she."I want you in my room, and as Helen Burns is with you,she may come too."

We followed Miss Temple to her apartment.It had a good fire,and looked cheerful.Miss Temple told Helen Burns to be seated in a low arm-chair on one side of the fireplace,and herself asking another,she called me to her side.

"Is it all over?"she asked,looking down at my face."Have you cried your sadness away?"

"I am afraid I never shall do that."

"Why?"

"Because I have been wrongly accused(指责),and you and everybody else,will now think me a bad girl."

"We shall think you what you prove yourself to be,my child.Continuo lo act as a good girl,and you will satisfy us."

"Shall I,Miss Temple?"

"You will."said MissTemple,"You have been accused of lying when you were little.Tell us the truth,but add nothing and exaggerate(奇大)nothing. "

I made up my mind that I would be most modest and most correct.Having thought for a few minutes about where to start,I told her all the story of my sad childhood.

My hometown is not very large, but it's very beautiful. There are lots of {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(enjoy) things to do in my town. Let me tell you something about it.

The weather is good. It is not so cold in winter {#blank#}2{#/blank#} so hot in summer. The air here is {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(fresh) than other places. In spring, you can see many flowers, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(tree) and green hills. There is also a beautiful park in the town. Many old people like exercising in the park in the morning. At weekends, I also enjoy {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(I) in the park, such as flying kites, going for a picnic and so on.

There are many great and interesting stores in my town. Most things are not expensive. You can buy the best clothes {#blank#}6{#/blank#} a low price there. You can buy something for your family and friends there. You can also write some cards to your friends.

The Town Cinema is very famous and has the best service. It is also the closest {#blank#}7{#/blank#} my home in my town. If you go there, you will feel comfortable {#blank#}8{#/blank#} they have the most comfortable seats.
