While I was in Ojai this past weekend, I came across a man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (sit) at a bench by himself. I smiled and said hello to him. As I passed, he yelled to me {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (come) back. The man said that I was the only one of the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (passer-by) who had treated him in such a kind way. He said he was a reverend (牧市) and asked {#blank#}4{#/blank#} I was from; I said England. At that point, most people would say something like, near London. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}, his response was Birmingham. As {#blank#}6{#/blank#} matter of fact, Birmingham is the largest city near my rural hometown. We carried on a {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (friend) conversation and in the conversation, I {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (inform) that he needed some money to go back home. Not knowing how much money I had, I told him I'd give him whatever was in my purse. He said he prayed that I'd have $47. Then I opened the wallet in my purse and counted out the money. That was {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (exact) $47. I offered the man all of my money. I felt really good for giving help to someone, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} was in trouble.

    Today I share this story with you, because I want to spread as much kindness in the world as I can.

    Once there lived a rich man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} wanted to do something for the people of his town. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} first he wanted to find out whether they deserved his help.

    In the centre of the main road into the town, he placed {#blank#}3{#/blank#} very large stone. Then he {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (hide) behind a tree and waited. Soon an old man came along with his cow.

    “Who put this stone in the centre of the road?” said the old man, but he did not try to remove the stone. Instead, with some difficulty he passed around the stone and continued on his way. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} man came along and did the same thing; then another came ,and another. All of them complained about the stone but not tried to remove {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. Late in the afternoon a young man came along. He saw the stone, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (say) to himself: “The night {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (be) very dark. Some neighbors will come along later in the dark and will fall against the stone.”

    Then he began to move the stone. He pushed and pulled with all his {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (strong) to move it. How great was his surprise at last! {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the stone, he found a bag of money.

    He's an old cobbler (修鞋匠) with a shop in a historic area in Paris. When I took him my shoes, he told me, "I haven't time. Take them to {#blank#}1{#/blank#} other fellow on the main street.

    Just looking at his bench {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(load) with tools and pieces of leather, I knew the craftsman (手艺人) was rather {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(skill). "No," I replied, "the other fellow can't do it well."

    "The fellow he mentioned" is one of those shopkeepers who fix shoes and make keys without knowing much about mending shoes or making keys. They work {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(careless), and when they have finished sewing back a sandal strap (鞋带), you might as well just throw away the pair. The reason {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I wanted to have my shoes repaired in the shop is that the man works very carefully.

    The man {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(have) me write my name on one shoe with a piece of chalk and said, "Come back tomorrow."

    I was about to leave {#blank#}7{#/blank#} he took a pair of soft leather {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(boot) off a shelf.

    "See what I can do?" he said with pride. "Only three {#blank#}9{#/blank#} us in Paris can do this kind of work."

    The cobbler was something out of an ancient legend, this old craftsman with his way of speaking familiarly, his very strange, dusty hat, his funny accent and, above all, his pride in his craft.

    In such a period it is a rare comfort to find a cobbler who gets his greatest {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(satisfy) from pride in a job well done.

    The College Entrance Exam, also known as Gaokao, is one of the most influential tests scheduled {#blank#}1{#/blank#} June 6^th to 8^th. For this, Chinese students are separated into Science and Liberal Art at high school, a practice that allows them to stay {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(compete) in the College Entrance Examination by choosing preferred subjects. However, thing began to change when the policy of College Entrance Exam Reform {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(publish).

    And now, an ongoing reform of China's college entrance exam and enrolling system, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} which students used to be selected for their performance on a single test, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(extend) to cover more provinces in China since 2018, according to the Ministry of Education.

    In 2018, the reform was expanded to eight provincial-level {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(region), namely Hebei, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Fujian, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong and Chongqing, where Year-1 high school students {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(start) from fall 2018 needed to prepare for the change.

    It brought the total number of regions implementing the reform {#blank#}8{#/blank#} 14, according to the ministry.

    With the reform, the new selection and enrollment rules may differ slightly from region to region. In northern China's Hebei Province, students will only have to sit the annual national college entrance test for three subjects, Chinese language, math and foreign language {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (include). Their performances during high school academic tests will also serve as measurable indicators. Their results in the comprehensive quality evaluation throughout the high school will be used as {#blank#}10{#/blank#} reference.

    I came to England last summer. I {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be) in England for eleven months. I am going to finish my studies in England soon, and will leave {#blank#}2{#/blank#} China next month.

    At first it was very difficult for me {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(communicate )with other people in English, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}now I can speak English much {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(well), and even understand English television, because I have studied hard and my teachers and classmates have helped me a lot.

    I have lots of English {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (friend) now. Some of {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(they) have even invited me for dinner at their houses {#blank#}8{#/blank#} I have learned a lot about their custom. They are {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (interest) to learn about China and Chinese people. Every time they ask me a lot of questions, I realize how {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (few) I know about my own country.
