The College Entrance Exam, also known as Gaokao, is one of the most influential tests scheduled  June 6th to 8th. For this, Chinese students are separated into Science and Liberal Art at high school, a practice that allows them to stay (compete) in the College Entrance Examination by choosing preferred subjects. However, thing began to change when the policy of College Entrance Exam Reform (publish).

And now, an ongoing reform of China's college entrance exam and enrolling system,  which students used to be selected for their performance on a single test, (extend) to cover more provinces in China since 2018, according to the Ministry of Education.

In 2018, the reform was expanded to eight provincial-level (region), namely Hebei, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Fujian, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong and Chongqing, where Year-1 high school students (start) from fall 2018 needed to prepare for the change.

语法填空

While thousands of college students headed for warm climate to enjoy sun and fun during their week off from classes, seven local students had other plans.

The Northern Essex Community College (NECC) students and one of their teachers spent part of their spring break in New York City, helping repair an area{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (destroy) by the hurricane.

“I wanted to see for myself what happened,” said Terry. “I couldn't imagine{#blank#}2{#/blank#}it is like to lose your home and everything that you know and the{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(power) effect the hurricane had on those people. I wanted to do something, to understand their feeling of helplessness.”

The group headed into Brooklyn's Red Hook district, which was hit hard by the hurricane. There they met people from other parts of the country,{#blank#}4{#/blank#}had also volunteered to help. Together, those volunteers and the NECC students{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(work) to clear rubbish out of a three-story building. They put on protective suits and gloves{#blank#}6{#/blank#}they entered the building.

Inside the building, the students saw nothing but broken walls and doors and pieces of the building {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(lie) all over the place.

The students returned to school with{#blank#}8{#/blank#}sense of achievement, a feeling that{#blank#}9{#/blank#}helped people in need. I was remarkable how a community lost so much and was still able to recover, and this left the deepest impression{#blank#}10{#/blank#}the students.

Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

How to Become a Morning Person?

You have grand ambitions: to start a business, to write a book. But chances are you work long hours, or household responsibilities consume your days. By the time you finish all you have to do, you will have had no energy {#blank#}1{#/blank#}anything you want to do beyond turning on the TV.

Yet some busy people do make time for their priorities. The secret is giving the most attention to {#blank#}2{#/blank#}at the very beginning of a day. They get up earlier than they have to. Morning by morning, they make progress on something {#blank#}3{#/blank#}matters.

It's not fun to force yourself out of bed, but these early hours are often the best time to do things for yourself. With a little schedule reorganization, {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(become) a morning person is more doable than you think.

I first learned that mornings {#blank#}5{#/blank#}be transformational years ago, when I was studying a busy lawyer's schedule. She wanted to spend more time with her son, but she had little control over when she left work. This state of affairs kept her sad {#blank#}6{#/blank#}she realized she and her son were both early risers and the morning time could be made full use of. After thinking it through, the lawyer decided to get up even earlier. Then, when the boy stepped into the dining room, she {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(finish) preparing a rich breakfast so they two could enjoy the meal to the fullest together.

Mornings are also great for focused thinking. Getup an hour earlier, and you can knock out your most important task of the day. Or you can spare some time for those creative desires {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(bury) deep in your heart and hard to nurture.

But many will argue:I'm not a morning person! The fact is that there are not so many true night owls. When most people take an honest look at {#blank#}9{#/blank#}they're spending the hours before bed, they'll find they have wasted much time on the TV programs they don't mean {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(watch). Also, they often browse through photos on social media of people they didn't like in high school anyway.

A better approach is to sleep earlier, rise earlier and turn unproductive evening hours into productive morning hours.
