Nowadays, some calligraphers (书法家) are marrying modern technology with ancient writing art to let young people love it. 

Chang Binghuang is a teacher of Chinese language at Tamkang University. He found that his students liked to spend much more time on computers and phones than writing on paper, and even less time on calligraphy. 

"It was quite a blow to me, " said Chang. "And I started to think about how to use technology to get young people interested in calligraphy. " So Chang created a system called "e-pen". However, this system was not perfect first. The writers had to watch the screen instead of the hands. It did not feel like writing calligraphy. 

Then, thanks to the tablet computer, a new "e-pen" was-born. People can now look at the screen and their hands at the same time. The new "e-pen" app became popular quickly. "The c-pen app is for anyone with an interest in learning Chinese characters, " said Chang. So people who have little interest or are not that willing to learn will be able to take the first step into the world of calligraphy. For instance, young students can now practice writing characters like "love" and "peace" with a digital brush. 

To keep the tradition alive, Chang hopes more young people will learn more about calligraphy with the help of new technology. With technology, the art of calligraphy is set to grow stronger in a new digital age. 

Clubs Making a Difference for the Earth

Joining a club to help protect the environment can be both fun and impactful. Here's an interview with two students, Alex and Mia, who have started clubs at their schools to help the planet.

◆What is the goal of your club?

Alex: My club, the" Clean Air Group", focuses on reducing air pollution. We encourage students to ride bikes and use public transport to cut down air pollution.

Mia: {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Our goal is to create community gardens in different parts of our school and neighborhood to provide fresh vegetables, which are good for both people and wildlife.

◆How did you come up with the idea for your club?

Alex: {#blank#}2{#/blank#} And I realized how much pollution they were producing. I wanted to do something to help reduce it, and that's when I thought of cleaner ways of getting to school.

Mia: I've always enjoyed gardening with my family, and when I learned about how important plants are for the environment, I thought," Why not start a club that lets others experience that too?"

Alex: We organize" No Car Days" where students leave their cars at home and walk, bike, or take the bus. We also invite guest speakers to talk about air pollution and its impact on our planet.

Mia: We plant and take good care of school gardens. We give away some of the produces from our gardens to local food banks.

◆What impact has your club had so far?

Alex: A lot of students now use bikes or carpool more often. It's great to see people being more mindful of how they travel.

Mia: Our gardens are growing all the time. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} It's brought people together and made the school a greener, more welcoming place.

You may have heard "59. All roads lead to Rome", but you may not know that the world's first "highway" is in China. It is the "Qin Zhi Dao", or the "Qin Highway". The highway has a history of more than 2,000 years.

The Qin Highway starts in Chunhua County(淳化县) of Shaanxi Province and ends in Baotou（包头）of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. 60. 它大约长750公里。 We can learn from the Shiji (Records of the Grand Historian) by Sima Qian that Qin Shi Huang ordered Meng Tian to build this highway. Meng brought together about 300,000 people to work on it. However, the work only lasted about two years when Qin Shi Huang died suddenly in 210 BC.

There is no record to say why the Qin people built the highway. Some experts say the highway might be a military(军事的) highway. It connected Qin's center with the Great Wall in the north. If there was an emergency in the north, the military could reach there in three days and nights.

Although the Qin Highway was not used for long in the Qin Dynasty, it made a big difference in the late dynasties. For example, it helped Zhang Qian in the Han Dynasty(朝代) to send information about other states to the Han. It also played a big role in improving cultural and economic exchanges between people.
