Once there was a man named Chulong in Thailand. One day he saw a beautiful 1 when he was walking in the park. He went near it quietly and caught (抓住) it.

     " 2 do you catch me?" asked the bird.

    "I want to make money," said Chulong.

    "Nobody will 3 me because I'll lose my beauty when I'm not free." Then the beautiful bird turned into a common one.

    Chulong was unhappy.

    The bird said,“ 4 you set me free, I will tell you three simple but useful rules. I'm sure they will 5 you."

    "But how can I trust (相信) 6 ? You may fly away," said Chulong.

    "I won't," said the bird.

    Chulong set the bird free, and it sat in a tree.

    Now tell me the 7 ，said Chulong.

     “OK,” said the bird. "The first rule is never trust everything others say. The second rule is never be unhappy about 8 you don't have. The third rule is never throw away (扔掉） what you have in your hand'

    You silly bird "shouted Chulong ". Everyone knows these three rules. You cheated (欺骗）me.”

    But the bird said,"Chulong， 9 all your actions today. You had me in your hand but you threw me away. You trusted all I said. And you are unhappy about not having me. Although the rules are simple you never 10 them ". After saying this the bird flew away.

Spring Festival(春节) is a big festival in China. Chinese like Spring Festival not because of the new clothes or nice food, but being with their family.

It is yard sale time again. Everyone in the Jones family {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (clear)out their old things already and set a table out in front of their house.

Billy, the youngest, put some crayons and board {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(game) in his yard sale box. Suzy, the middle child, decided {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(part) with a couple of her soft toys. Nowadays she just doesn't love them as much as she used to. Regina, the eldest, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (own) some music CDs and magazines. She got tired of things fast, and needed money for new ones, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} she wanted to sell all of them. Dad took out some old tools and computer parts. Mom chose some old handbags and shoes she didn't care for anymore.

Together, the five of them set {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (they) tables at 7:30 in the morning. From 7:30 to 9:30 there was hardly a chance to take a break. Many people brought young kids, so Billy sold out of his games {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (rapid). A few girls bought most of Suzy's soft {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (toy) and Regina's CDs.

  {#blank#}9{#/blank#} Jones family made $323 in the end. It was quite a good day. Everyone was pleased {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the results even if a few things haven't been sold. To be honest, the yard sale has become everyone's good memory.

Sadie was on a basketball game on a wheelchair. The game had only just started, but Sadie had collided (碰撞) twice with another player's wheelchair. The coach waved Sadie off court (球场). The disappointed crowd behind her began to laugh.

Sadie tried not to cry in front of all those people. She was upset that her brother, Richie, was absent from her important game, and it showed in her playing.

Richie was Sadie's whole world. Sadie had loved to play basketball before her accident, and it was Richie who taught her to play again. At first, she was so upset that she did not want to get out of bed. Richie was always there to encourage her to play basketball again. He even borrowed a wheelchair for himself to help her practice.

But lately, Richie preferred to hang out with his new high school friends. Sadie would watch from the house as he washed his new car. When he drove away, tears filled Sadie's eyes. Sadie's mother saw that she was sad. "Your brother still loves you," she said. "He has new friends now, but he still cares about you." But Sadie still felt hurt.

Sadie looked up and searched for her mother in the crowd. She was surprised to see her mother smiling. Then out of the corner of her eye, Sadie saw a familiar boy running across the gym toward her. It was Richie! He was holding some flowers. Richie handed her the flowers with a smile.

"But we're losing," said Sadie. "Why are you giving me flowers?" she asked.

"That's not important," said Richie. "What I know is that you're a great player, and there is no way I'm going to miss your big game! It's great to have new friends, but I realized that you're my best friend."

Sadie smiled and went back to the game. With her brother watching, Sadie got the ball from another player. Then she scored the first amazing goal.

Yesterday, Peter had a wonderful trip with his parents on the Ferris wheel (摩天轮) in Bao'an Coastal Cultural Park. He was so amazed at the new city landmark that he wanted to know more about the Ferris wheel. So he looked it up in an encyclopedia online.

In 1892, so mc leaders from Chicago planned a fair. They wanted it to be the greatest fair ever. It would show the newest ideas in science, business and art. They also wanted to build something amazing at the fair. The Eiffel Tower had been built three years before in France. The Chicago leaders wanted something even more impressive. So they asked people to send in designs.

G. W. Ferris was a young engineer. He heard about the fair. He wanted to attract visitors to the fair, so he decided to design a big wheel made of steel (钢). The wheel was 250 feet across. Large cars hung from the end of each spoke (车轮辐). Each car carried 60 people in a big circle through the air.

On May 1, 1893, the fair opened. People from around the world came to see the latest inventions. They felt the heat of new electric stoves. They stood in the cool wind of small fans. They even saw a machine that washed the dishes.

Ferris's wheel was the main attraction at the Chicago Fair. People stood in line to ride on it. They wanted to see the fairgrounds from the wheel's highest point. As the wheel turned upward, some people were afraid. Others were thrilled at what they saw below. Fountains shone in the sunlight. Flags waved in the wind. A train snaked through the grounds. At night, coloured lights li t up the sky.

Today we call these smaller wheels "Ferris wheels".

It's Saturday today. Tomorrow Nina{#blank#}1{#/blank#} a party because it's her 13th birthday. Her friends will come to help her. Linda is a {#blank#}2{#/blank#} girl. She is good at {#blank#}3{#/blank#} games and activities. Gina is ready to buy some food and {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Anna is going to bring some {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and other decorations. It's nice, isn't it?
