The Mogao Caves are a very special place in China, which are located in Dunhuang, Gansu Province. The Mogao Caves are thousands of years old and were listed as a world heritage (遗产) site by UNESCO in 1987.

Many people, including archaeologists ( 考古 学家) and researchers, work hard to take care of the Mogao Caves and learn more about them. Fan Jinshi is one of them.

Fan was born in Beijing on July 9, 1938. Her father was a graduate of Tsinghua University and had a strong interest in Chinese classical art and culture.

Influenced by her father, Fan liked visiting museums when she was in middle school. With the great love of Chinese culture, she studied in the archaeology department in Peking University and graduated in 1963. Then she started working at Dunhuang and has worked there ever since. She spends almost 60 years taking care of Dunhuang. People call her the " Daughter of Dunhuang".

On May 4, 2023, "Daughter of Dunhuang" Fan Jinshi returned to Peking University and brought back 10 million RMB donations to set up the Fan Jinshi Education Fund (基金) to    ▲  .

"Money made should be spent in the right way. People cannot only think of themselves," she said. "Hopefully the setting of the Fund can help Dunhuang studies at the university, so it can raise cultural confidence and strength. "

What kind of vehicle (工具) will you choose when travelling between provinces (省)? Many people may like travelling by train because it's safer and cheaper. Now the high-speed railways have connected (连接) eastern and western China as well as the south and the north. 

A new high-speed railway opened on Sept. 10th, 2016. It connects Zhengzhou in Henan Province with Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province. With this railway, China's high-speed railways are over 20,000 kilometres long. It is the world's longest and makes up 60 percent of the world's total (全部的) high-speed railway lines. 

Besides length, China also does better in speed. China is the only country with trains running at 350 kilometres an hour, such as the Beijing-Tianjin and Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railways. 

With these surprising numbers, it is easy to forget that China wasn't the first in the high-speed rail game. Japan started 50 years ago, while Germany did 20 years ago. China only began to build its high-speed railways 14 years ago. 

China's high-speed railways are developing (发展) fast now. Behind it, there is the country's growing need for transportation. China's high-speed trains gave 961 million trips to people last year. 

"The high-speed railways not only bridge the distance (距离), but connect people, information and goods," said Huang Xin, an official from the China Railway Corp. 

Yet, China's building of high-speed railways is still going on. China plans to have 38,000 kilometres of high-speed railways by 2025.

China successfully launched the Shenzhou-18 manned spaceship to send three astaurants to Tiangong space station for a six-month task at 8:59 pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.

With the help of a Long March-2F carrier rocket, the spaceship blasted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center successfully. The Shenzhou-18 crew members are Ye Guangfu （September, 1980）, from Chengdu, Li Cong （October,1989） from Handan and Li Guangsu （July, 1987） from Xuzhou , with Ye who used to be a crew member during the Shenzhou-13 mission from October 2021 to April 2022 , as the task leader. But it is Li Cong and Li Guangsu's first space flight. The main purposes for the task include orbit handover（轨道移交） with Shenzhou 17 crew and carrying out a series of experiments and tasks during their stay of six months

The three Shenzhou-18 spaceship astronauts have entered the country's space station and met with another astronaut group on Friday, starting a new round of in-orbit crew handover The Shenzhou-17 crew opened the hatch（舱门） at 5:04 a. m. （Beijing Time） and greeted the new arrivals And they took group pictures.

According to the China Manned Space Agency, the six astronauts will live and work together for about 5 days to complete planned tasks and work." The new crew will carry out more than 90 experiments in the fields of basic physics, space science, space life science, space medicine and space technology", said Lin Xiqiang, deputy director of the CMSA, at Wednesday's press conference.

A special task for the Shenzhou-18 astronauts is to create an "fish tank" and raise zebrafish in zero gravity to study how the space environment affects their growth and system balance. The "fish tank" can hold four small fish. But if the experiment succeeds, it will be a significant breakthrough to cultivate vertebrates in China's space program. The next step in our research includes experiments on fruit flies and mice," said Cang Huaixing, a chief researcher for the space station's scientific experiments.

China will also try its best to push the research on foreign astronauts and space tourists in space station flights.
