There was a kingdom long,long ago. It was ruled by king who loved riddles. Once a year the king made a newriddle. He gave a prize to the person who could solve the riddle.
There was a baker who alsolived in this kingdom. Everyone agreed that he baked the finest breads. The bakerhad almost everything he needed except for a horse. If the baker had a horse, hecould sell his fine breads from one end of the kingdom to the other.
One year the king madea new riddle that puzzled everyone. "I will give a prize to the person whocan solve my riddle," the king said. Whoever wins will have the pick of oneof my strongest horses." He then drew a line down the middle of the courtyard."Make this line shorter without erasing(清除) anypart of it," the king challenged.
People came from far andwide. They looked at the line and squinted at it. They even put their noses to theground and scratched their heads.
"How can you makea line shorter without erasing any part of it?" the people in the crowd askedeach other. Some of them tried. The dressmaker kicked dirt(泥土)over the line to hide it. The farmer poured water over the line to makeit disappear. None of these efforts worked, and the people went home disappointed.Everyone was puzzled about how to solve this new riddle.
A week passed, and nobodyhad any new ideas. Then one day the baker came into the courtyard with a bag offlour(面粉).
Your Majesty, "thebaker said to the king, I can make your line shorter without erasing any part ofit." Then the baker opened his bag of flour. He poured out a line of flourright next to the king's line. The line the baker made was longer than the king'sline.
Now, good king, "thebaker smiled, "your line is shorter.
The people were amazed.The king laughed and clapped his hands. "You have won the prize. I will giveyou a horse of your choice.
The baker was excited.Now he could sell his breads from one end of the kingdom to the other.
Zebra, Deer and Fox were good friends. One day, Zebra and Deer found a lot of fruit. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}
On the way, they met Fox. Fox saw they were happy, so he asked them why. They told him they couldn't say because it was a secret(秘密). Fox asked them to trust him, so they told him about the fruit. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} He told the secret to everyone. So other animals ate all the fruit before Zebra and Deer knew.
The next day, Zebra and Deer found another place full of food. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Zebra and Deer were very angry. They decided to tea ch Fox a lesson. They told Fox that they found a lake full of fish.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} They ran to the lake, but found there was no fish at all. They thought Fox was a liar(骗子) and gave him a beating.
Fox learned that keeping others' trust was very important. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} And they became friends again.
